* Changes were made to previous years' format but all matches are still Bo7, all-kill style. The previous season's ladder format: + Show Spoiler +
8th and 9th placed teams in the PL play the first match and the winner of this match plays the 7th placed team. The winner of that then plays the 6th placed team. So on so forth until we reach the final.
* Under this new group format, the defending champion is still seeded directly into the final but all other teams need only win 3 matches to reach the final.
* All matches to be held at the MBC studio, except for the final.

Because they won the last STX Masters. The system seeds the previous winner, thus for the most part feeding itself in a continuous cycle.
sound's really unfair T_T but never mind I hope stx regain their composure and start winning games again and I am officially a stx fan and kt ^^. GO STX AND KT !

It would be pretty nice to see STX actually winning this. I mean, even though I like SKT, I think it will make me sick if they win everything, everytime.

This is my first STX cup masters or IIRC. My post is a reply to the fact that SKT is the defending champion from the last cup. Sorry if I didn't make it clear enough though. ^^
What happened in 2010 anyways.. the part that you are talking about? I'm so fucked up.

LOL doesn't SKT win this cup every year? They play so few games in it becuase of seeding. Last year it was a fantasy all kill and the year before it was a hyuk all kill.
It's a fun tournament, basically. It's not just for B-teamers but it's a way to play rookies / b-teamers without the pressure of a normal Pro/Starleague on their shoulders.
They play to win, yes, but it's a little more laid back (generally) I translated the Korean team names for people who don't know em. Shame, for shame...
On July 26 2011 22:32 KamMoye wrote: this is my first cup masters. these don't count for elo/kespa? why not? is it just for B-teamers?
Nah, Masters doesn't count for KeSPA ranks. You see mostly A teamers but also aspiring B teamers get a good number of games.
Last year it was rise and shine for Neo.G_Soulkey, who all killed WeMadeFOX and 2 killed when being down 1-0 against MBCGame (hOn_sin started and lost to Sea, Neo.G_Soulkey got 2 kills, got intercepted, ZerO cleaned up). He was a b-teamer then, right now, he #11 on kespa rank.

Does anyone else kinda of like the old format a little bit better? I just realized how totally different this was.
Old Masters cup format was more a king of the hill style tournament, not a bracket tournament.
Yeah, it totally was...two bottom teams in Proleague played, then the winner played the next ranked team, winner moved to next rank team...I kinda liked that a bit better, but we'll see how this goes :D

I don't like either format, first gets too much of an advantage in both.
This one's a little better because the last place teams don't have to win 10 matches straight.
Well the best news with this is that STX is definitely still committed to the BW scene, meaning the team restructuring is just that - restructuring - not preparation for disbanding. Though they may want to look hard at their coaching situation.

they have already been there. they wouldnt fail. and i have no clue what kind of reasoning you have to propose a logic like that. why do you hate SKT so much? be less biased atleast to some understandable level.
Keep in mind that STX masters cup ironically is meant to give rookies more playtime, none of the teams actually cares about this cup so they tend to send new players to get experience, so even if you're a bisu fan and SKT wasnt seeded, the ace players probably wont play much at all.

That being said probably kt would field in Barracks ,perfective , action and another b teamer hope these guys get a lot of experience from stx masters ^^.
Cool! though I like the old format better if im honest haha. I want the chance (and only a chance) to see my favorite lower tier players play game after game. Side note: MBC fighting! BaBy fighting! Bisu all kill in the finals! ^^

We don't know yet. The application process for the school teams hasn't closed yet. The league starts on 15th August. If there is sufficient information, I might start a thread. If not, I'll just PM you if I know the names of any of the progamers.

Because of the typhoon, KT's return flight to Korea was delayed until today, leaving them no choice but to pull out of the STX Cup. Fox wins their match by default. There will be no Fox-KT match tomorrow. Instead, MBC will air Bnet Attack.

I'm actually surprised there's been so little talk about KT's withdrawal from the cup, because the Korean community has been all up in arms about it. Personally, I think what they did is a huge disgrace not only to Starcraft, but to sports in general. If you're a professional sports player, you play out everything not only for yourself but also for the fans, unless the circumstances literally prohibit you from playing. I'll be laughing when SKT shuts them out in the final, even with their "secret strategies".

You are entitled to your opinion so do I , Personally KT's withdrawal one the first case could probably be not being able to return back in time to play for their games note their flight was cancel the day before they have to play with wemade fox and any a reasonable person would have not field in the players after such a long flight from shanghai to korea as team's were not prepared or given time to rest after the jet lag . I don't see any reason what's not sportmanship with kt call to pull out of stx .You can speculate all you want but it could probably that they were not given earlier day to come back would have gave the reason for kt coach to pull out the team . I don't think their regards of pulling out of stx masters was because of the secret tactics that they were planning to keep to them selves as of now I know you don't find any rejoice team kt after all they stomp woongjin to the ground and with your comments that kt a noob team having stats as an over rated player really did hurt the fan boy in me well let's see if your evil team will win this proleague finals.

Would the b teamer stand a chance against the might of we made fox ? probably the coach was planning to send a few of b teamers and if the lose too much probably sent in the big guns hence not being able to get the big guns to backup their b teamers he probably pull kt out of the stx master because of this .

I see but if i was the coach i probably wanted to play with my full deck despite not being able to do so if i was playing in the stx but isn't admitting defeat a right of a full contender despite probably being called not sportmanship in terms of " can't win tournament might as well quit " . I think if someone actually twitter or des interview kt coach regarding the pull out would have cleared the issue at hand here . It's hard to speculate what is happening until we know the "real" reason the pull out is .

I don't believe so. Khan had the rookie train out in their match.
yeah, i was going to comment on this earlier. i really don't understand why they didn't send the kids that didn't fly to china. it's not like they were going to play flash anyway. the whole point of this historically has been to give the newer players experience (although that's been not exactly how it's worked out this year for the most part, although with the change to proleague the whole idea of what is the first team is larger than what is has been previously)

Rookie train is a bit over the top. Grape is not much of a rookie anymore and neither is Jangbi. January did give Always a shot, and then finished it off with a 2nd rookie because she knew she couldn't win it at that point. I'm fairly certain had it not been a zerg or had Khan not been down 3-1 in the final set she would have sent Stork as a last resort (but alas, Stork vZ).
So far most teams have sent out some lesser players in the mix but no team has 'disrespected' the league by going with a complete rookie lineup.
CJ sent out Where. Khan sent out Always and ByuL. Oz sent out sHy (who I guess is more of an up and comer). Woongjin tried Flying in their desperation to bring one of their tosses back to form.
As for KT, not including the players who went to china all KT had left was 4 players who have never played a single televised game, had no players for them to practice with and had no coaches as the entire coaching staff was in China the previous week. With the season over and an empty team house said players were likely on break that week. The proper solution would have been delaying the KT/Wemade match a few days due to flight cancellation and typhoon not being KT's fault.
Got this stupid feeling that Jaedong's gonna get sniped by Hyuk or s2 and Oz don't have an answer for Bisu.
Oz should feel free to prove me wrong though, Killer's on a tear recently, but with today's game I don't know if he can stand up to Fantasy (and Bisu).

Oz should feel free to prove me wrong though, Killer's on a tear recently, but with today's game I don't know if he can stand up to Fantasy (and Bisu).
Meh, if anything I'd like to watch PerfectMan's perfect manhandling of SKT into an all-kill. LOL
I think jaedong can take on the hero of skt1 (bisu ) he is the tyrant after all .
Knowing the STX cup, what looks like an awesome set (jaedong vs bisu, killer vs fantasy, hiya vs best etc) is going to turn into a derp fest with like Dear allkilling SKT zergs or something

Hey there, how's that Shinedown song going for you?
Yeah he might be able to take on Bisu, what are the chances of that happening? They first have to flush Bisu out without using Jaedong, cause I'd bet SKT wouldn't hesitate to send Hyuk or s2 out vs him first.
Of course Jaedong could beat 2 Zerg and proceed to beat Bisu too, we'll see how it goes~
According to their programme schedule, MBC will be airing a special on the STX Cup finalist. I'm not sure what the special is about, it could just be highlights of their road to the final. But anyway, it airs at 6pm KST on 26th August.
And don't forget, the final between SKT and Oz is on 27th August 5pm KST.
For people in Korea, it's held at the Changwon Indoor Gymnasium (창원실내체육관 about 6000 seats), home of the LG Sakers basketball team. If you're free on that day, show BW/MBC/STX/SKT/Oz some support by going to the finals.
Just finished up the Liquipedia article for this. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/2011_STX_Cup_Masters Some stuff still missing, noticably so the music. Does anyone know and can he or she fill it in? Might be more things missing, feel free to improve! Still have to fix the infobox top right, dw about that.
