Jaedong now has 394 wins in official matches, making him the "winningest" (Borrowing the phrase from someone else before) player in Brood War, surpassing Nada's 390. Flash also tied Nada's record of 6 individual title wins. Jaedong also got his 24th ace match against Sea in their game against MBC Game Hero -- he now has the most number of ace match wins, surpassing Leta and Flash who have 23 ace match wins. Huzzah! | ||

Regarding the ace matches, Flash is still very close, and he got a 4 or 5 ace match losing streak last season :/ I guess it's all about Flash and JD nowadays. | ||

Is it weird that this makes me nostalgic for the old days? People are really gung-ho over Flash nowadays, its weird to think that he's statistically tied with someone like Nada now, who until now seemed like this untouchable figure. Either way, congratulations to JD for his accomplishment. The swarm is limited in it's options as of late- (at least until August) so hell yeah! Represent, JD! ever since July switched, you've been the Overmind in my eyes. | ||

NaDa's accomplishments never real feel as impressive to me as maybe they should, simply because they were from a different era of objectively inferior play. For Football fans it's like Real Madrid in the 50's, they were just crushing everyone but it was a whole different game back then. They are still respected for their awards but they don't even come into the discussion compared to today's Barcelona or some of the 80's and 90's teams (AC Milan with Marco Van Basten comes to mind). Flash and Jaedong feel like the real deal for me. Just watch one of the Coca-Cola starleagues that recently went up on nevake if you want a laugh compared to current BW. NaDa advanced ahead a bit quicker than everyone else and crushed everyone for a period. But does it fee like Flash's ridiculous peak recently? It's not the same to me. And not just bias because NaDa left for SC2, because he was a great player even right up until he left. Number of titles never feels like the right measure of skill anyway when you have so many Starleagues were arguably the better player lost or it just had a weird bracket. Let's rate them by their play at their best. I feel you're way under-appreciating Nada here. Nada's influence on the scene doesn't simply stop with his trophy cabinet or his statistical records. His replays were some of the most sought after replays for terran players, contributed much towards the birth of Iloveoov, who is generally accepted as the father of modern terran play. His untouchable mechanics (for his era) and general superiority over other gamers allowed him to experiment with various styles of play, which is why he was so well known for his "free-styling". He opened new doors for the terran race, styles previously thought to be inappropriate for professional play. He was in a lot of ways the epitome of a successful gamer; unnaturally skilled at the game, a celebrity status only rivaled by the likes of Boxer, made his profession look glamorous with his thousands of adoring fans and high earning capacity, drew corporate interest in which ultimately made the scene what it is today....I can go on and on but there's more to Nada than simply undermining his staggering numbers and achievements that came with his long career that survived numerous trials and changes. It's just plain ignorant to down play him simply because his VODS don't look as crisp as those of Bogus'. The legacy he left behind was more than the hundreds of VODs that don't capture the drama, the anticipation, and the amazing plays that opened not only our eyes but inspired progamers of today that continue to improve upon those past innovations. It's ignorant to presume his records are irrelevant simply because his play has been improved upon. You just had to be there in person to experience his genius. There's no nostalgia from me because I rate Flash higher from a pure gaming perspective. Plus, I hated the guy when he was stomping everyone left and right. You could tell he wasn't even trying all that hard to win sometimes. However, it irks me whenever someone tries to make the all the fond memories I have of the progaming scene somehow unimportant by looking at the past with a modern eye. | ||

Jaedong in ZvT at his best is the best ZvT ever in the game, his ZvP when practiced and at his peak is almost unbeatable, and he redefined ZvZ skill to the point where he had the highest win ratio in any matchup. your entire analogy crumbles to the counterexample of Pele vs. Messi. different does not necessarily mean easier, simpler versus more complex is the better and more precise association, but even for that there's an argument for and against relevance. you should glorify Nada. but you should also put Jaedong up there with him, and Flash above. the analogy here is better taken from from tennis: Bjorn Borg as Nada vs. Nadal as JD, with Federer as Flash, taken from 09-10, before Federer's smooth decline out of the no.1. spot; with time, JD will be better remembered for his rivalry with Flash and the fact that he occasionally was no.1, slowing the legend down from his complete domination, and scoring a couple records of his own, and less for how "good" he was. it's how sports history works through the minds of the fans when achievements become memories and statistics. people who were there though will always talk about the unforgettable matches that happened, but realistically the names JD or Bisu will never carry the same weight of Nada or Flash in esports history years from now, even if they will always be up there being brought up with the likes of oov and savior. | ||

Thats the amount of time I predict it will take for SC2 to take over BW completely as an esport. I also think that within the next 2 years SC2 'balance' will stabilize pretty well and so naturally it would be a good time for top BW players to transition. User was warned for this post | ||
