I know, I am his #1 fan.
Do you guys think the 4-point players are the most riskiest of them all. This pool involves:
ggaemo
HiyA
Horang2
HyuN
Jaehoon
JangBi
Killer
Midas
Mind
Pure
RorO
Shuttle
Stats
Tyson
Violet
Now, ggaemo is in ACE and that while he did perform decently last season, in this format I don't think he will excel at all because ACE lacks practice partners. HiyA and JangBi are slumping, but could post a turnaround this season due to their sheer amount of talent, and OZ/KHAN needs them to perform to succeed in Winners League. I feel that picking a WeMade player is a crapshoot, with Pure, Mind, RorO, and Midas all viable for appearances; some players are going to be left out in the cold. Ditto for MBC with HyuN, Jaehoon and Tyson. Violet and Stats are going to get appearances because they are KT Protoss, but who is going to take the bulk of them, are they going to be put into sniper modes? Horang2 and Shuttle could get some appearances, but will it justify their cost, since their teams have deep lineups to consider, but team wins should be plentiful. I have a disdain for Killer, so I couldn't give an objective statement about him.
With that being said, I made my team based on avoiding the 4-point player pool simply because there really isn't a good option to take. What are your opinions about the 4-point player pool, could there be decent gems, or should players just avoid this group and change their teams to reflect this?

Main Team
Stork (Captain) -- 7
Very easy choice, it would be insane not to pick him: strong right now, historically good in WL, and lots of potential to stack up consecutive wins.
great -- 5
If I spend 7 points on Stork, I might as well risk a shot at another Samsung KHAN player, and pick up the team as well, in the hopes that they do well and I can win this FPL. A solid player who has been improving as of late.
Calm -- 5
It would be crazy to not pick Calm -- he's doing very well in PL and just beat Mind in the OSL. At only 5 points and a member of Jaedongs' 'dream team', what more could you want?
Hydra -- 7
Staying in the spirit of taking risks in FPL, Hydra is another of those 'necessary' picks. He's been doing amazingly well in PL this season, and theres no reason to think he won't rack up some win-streaks.
Modesty -- 2
Not sure why he's only 2 points, another obvious choice. He just beat Kal in a BO3, and before that free, Hydra, ZerO, and Fantasy in the PL. He'll not only break some win-streaks, but make some of his own.
Canata -- 1
Last, and probably least, there's Canata. Recently in PL, he's been, well, awful. Still, he's still capable of winning games, and his team, SKT, will probably give him a few win-points even if his individual performance isn't anything to praise. Also, I needed a Terran.
Samsung KHAN -- 3
As aforementioned, I have to pick Samsung KHAN after picking Stork and great if I want any chance of doing well in FPL. The team has a good value and lots of 4-0 / 4-1 / 4-2 potential.
Anti-Team
Jaehoon -- 4
I can't see him doing very well in WPL, and I think he's fairly overpriced.
Killer -- 4
BAHAHAHAHAAHHA...
BeSt -- 5
With the two above choices being obvious, I needed a 5 Point player. BeSt, unfortunately, seemed like the best option. Although I've always thought he was a great player, I'm _way_ too scared of Action to put him on my anti-team, and both free and Snow are solid enough that they will almost definitely rack up some points -- of course, BeSt is on SKT, which is a favorite to win and _will_ do well, so its quite a tossup. It was a very tough choice, and it might sink my team, but I think it was the best one for my awesome team.

Cheatoss
Main Team 5 BeSt 5 Calm 3 firebathero 2 Iris 2 Modesty 7 Stork (captain) 6 KT
Anti Team 5 Free 4 Pure 4 Shuttle
First time contender, definitely looking forward to crying and punching my monitor due to team faillure
As for my choices:
BeSt: relatively cheap for a player that's likely to be sent out and is definitely capable of streaking/ streak breaking. Also banking on points for team wins, imo overall more bang for points when compared to Fantasy and Bisu.
Calm: again going for cost-efectiveness here, likely to be sent out a lot as the number 2 guy behind Kal and performing admirably lately. Capable of picking up a good number of wins and STX is a solid team overall so I'm hoping he can raise me some dough ^^
firebathero: I excluded him from my team earlier because of concerns in cost effectiveness. But the raging fanboy in me felt guilty so I added him to bring some style to my team. I'm hoping there's a secret bonus pool for ceremonies! Firebathero doesn't break streaks, he breaks bonjwa spirits. He sends players into eternal slumps, forcing them down a wicked spiral, only to wake up in prison years later to the screeching sound of fangirls, begging a breakdancing FBH to have his babies. Sup?
Iris: Yes, I'm an ACE fanboy, don't judge me! Anyways, Iris has always been a solid player and his games sofar for ACE have been just that. I hope he can Berserk his way to some wins and become the surprise of WL.
Modesty: What's to say? Cheap, solid record and has been pretty good allround lately for a notorious ZvZ sniper. Destroying his team Ace Kal today I can see him make plenty of appearances.
Stork: Has been pretty untouchable lately, too good a player to pass up for 7 points. A core component for any competetive FPL team imo.
KT Rolster, because Flash is mad and overclocked. I believe he's still the most likely person to all-kill as his only weakness is fairly mediocre Terrans in Starleagues. I'm hoping he can face Ssak tomorrow, revenge will be sweet :D
As for my anti,
Free: has really sucked lately and seemed a better choice for 5 points than Action. Woongjin is playing really mediocre so I'm hoping that inbetween Woongjin winning less games and the relative good spread of skill on Woongjin, Free will be picking up less points than Action.
Pure: Has a pretty epic fail streak, hoping that WeMade won't get their shit together
Shuttle: I hate Shuttle, this way I have even more fun seeing him being crushed.
+ Show Spoiler +Seriously, who calls himself Shuttle? Die Shuttle.
Any tips from the FPL veterans?

Good to see this is still going strong! ...and the rules appear to still be the same. I'm ready to win! (if I get super lucky since I have no idea who's in what form right now)

I did a little more experimenting, and here's what I came up with for now. Only a few hours left (I don't know when signups close but the first WL match is in 4 hours) so I need to decide a few more things.
My current team:
TurN (3) C
Stats (4)
ggaemo (4)
Really (6)
Shine (7)
Bogus (6)
Ace 0
I have two theories about proleague. One is that you'll never get optimal results from overpriced players, and statistically everyone who costs more than 7 is overpriced, and most of the 7s are close. The other theory is that you shouldn't have two players from the same team on your team.
So I decided I was going to take the best players from each team - except for Flash, Bisu, Jaedong, and Leta, who were over-budget. If I couldn't afford an actual team, ACE would fill in, and while I expect them to win less with WL, I'm expecting 3 wins for a minimum of 10 total points - I can deal with that.
There was a hitch. Based on pure game differential, this system came up with: Shine (7), Bogus (6), TurN (3), Really (6), ggaemo (4), and Sea (7). Those of you with mad addition skills will recognize that this is 33 points, not 30, so I had to lose 3 somewhere. The Stats said to go with HyuN as not much worse than Sea, but those of you who know BroodWar will recognize another problem: I didn't have a Protoss. Stats is peforming just barely worse than HyuN, on a team with fewer options, and has a higher skill ceiling (anybody disagree? If not, good, if yes - I'd like some). Thus Stats on the final team instead of Sea.
I'm still a little nervous: there's a really good case for paying for a "real team" and dropping one of my good players. For instance, take WeMade (or KHAN, for maximum homerism) and drop Really for, say, s2, Crazy-Hydra, or by.hero. Thoughts?
Anti-Team
Action (5)
Pure (4)
Killer (4)
Action and Killer should be self-explanatory. They're both average-to-bad players who are slightly overpriced. I'm going to lose points (barring a miracle), but not that many. In theory. The fact that they're with KT and OZ is worrying, due to team win points, but I'll live. Pure could do me in, but other solid options look like HiyA and Jangbi, both of whom are due to return to form at any moment while Pure is a reliably bad Proleague player as long as you keep him away from PvP against bad PvPers.

I love your main team. Very well put together. Your anti, however, is asking to be death on the computer screen. Point by point: 1) free's sucked lately - true. free's done nothing really impressive yet this year - true. But over Action? You've got to be kidding. I haven't done the math on how the WL points will stack out, but stats suggest free gets an extra win, maybe two - and he's shown a much higher ceiling, imo, than Action. Then again I don't like Action. 2) Pure I'll give you. He's on my anti - but only because I'm scared of HiyA or Jangbi remembering how to play (historically, Jangbi's KHAN's best WL player and HiyA is in theory very good). 3) Shuttle - how do you hate Shuttle? He's not having the greatest year, but he's solidly average. I don't see an upside to this pick: there's no way he's not going to cost you points. free's probably a better anti than Shuttle, because there's always the possibility that he just sort of fails for a while.
Of course, it's not like I necessarily have better ideas, lol.

God damn it, I keep picking and repicking players based on my own thoughts as well as what others are posting ... anyone else spend like 5 hours picking their team? lol

haha i purposely told myself not to read this thread so I wouldn't go through that... nevertheless I got baited and I've changed my team about 10 times now. Ultimately though, I picked players I like watching win and I've accepted the possibility of low success by doing so. I mean, I replaced Stork with Shine... I don't think anyone in their right mind would do so. And I kept Light. Should I change Light for Stork? Ahhhhh

That would be everyone else!
I'm thinking to swap out Really+ACE for Wemade (or KHAN, if I can convince myself to take the fanboy plunge) + by.hero or Crazy-Hydra.
Problem is, I don't know which one. They've got identical records (8-6) on similar teams. Both are played frequently, but are neither is a number 1. by.hero is a #2 while Crazy-Hydra's a #3. by.hero has put his record together without playing his best matchup (ZvP), which should change in WL. On the other hand, in PL Crazy-Hydra's best matchup has been ZvT, which is valuable given WL trends. hero's overall the better player, probably, but CH is new and therefore has a higher upside. hero's got only one quality win (over great) but only one suspect loss (to Ssak); CH has beaten Kwanro and Kal, but lost to Jaehoon.
My general principle would be to stay away from by.hero since I've already got an STX player (Bogus), but I'm really tempted by that "has to improve because he's not played ZvP at all yet" reason.
Thoughts?

I just resist the temptation (aside from a captain switch Stork->Light and an anti-team switch to Jaehoon). I just reason that it's a far worse feeling changing up the team at the last minute only to see that they guy who you originally picked goes nuts.
It's also good to try and get distinctive players seeing as if too much people pick the same players, you're going to be getting a harder time to move up. Unfortunate because based on the FPL teams so far, Stork/Modesty/Hydra, already 3 of my roster, are in almost everyone's teams.

lol i just changed my team again. Took off KT and went with ACE, then put Stork in as captain. bah. I should get rid of shine as he's overpriced at 7... but man.

man... as much as the MBC coach may have been a pig, Light's success last year -- I felt -- came directly from good coaching. Not so much in preparations or whatever, but how he kept trotting Light out first while other teams would send out their baddies. This allowed Light to gain momentum as he won more matches, plus he had Sea to bat cleanup behind him. Now that the MBC coach has changed, I wonder if Light will be as good as he was last year???

I really want to get Kwanro but... I don't know. No clue what form he's in or if he'll be played, but on the other hand he could be an amazing sleeper for just three points.

Probably the latter, since in the first case you're spending a 0 pointer on the third player.
