Today, I noticed there were 20 something ppl in the Op Teamliquid channel. Naturally, one thing led to another, and voila, we had some Race Wars. For those of you who don't know what Race Wars is, it's basically, everyone goes random, and then you ally people of the same race. It's mad wicked fun, here is a battle report (from my perspective) of one of the games.
The game starts off. I spawn as Zerg. I decide that since this is FFA and all, people are most likely to rush and stuff. So I decide that I should 9 pool. What I don't know that this is on Killing Fields. Killing Fields is an imbalanced map made by Blizzard, and is 256 x 256 big. In other words, it's FRICKING HUGE. I'm already off to a great start. http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Killing_Fields I meet my one and only Zerg ally. I also scout around and see some T's around. Naturally, I make a proposition:
I try to salvage whatever economy I have left. Meanwhile, Brown Protoss ggs out. We leave his robo facility alone so brown can obs use a shuttle and 4 probes to kill 10-20 workers while watching the game. . + Show Spoiler +
White Protoss decides to mass carriers. While we yellow zerg decides to attack protoss, 8 carriers show up.

Usually when we play race wars, we only put 6 players in, which has two big advantages - More balanced teams (if 2P 2T 2Z, we only have 2 players teams, if 3T, 1P, 2Z P and Z ally up and we play TTT vs ZZP) - We take a lot longer to reach the map limit. With 8 players and a huge map, everyone gets a lot of units, and after a while you can't make units anymore, BW says "cannot make units, map limit reached" which basically screws the game.
Yellow and Blue stage a huge attack against my remaining Protoss ally. I didn't think we could survive with our combination of 8 carriers and the storms that orange's army was packing. + Show Spoiler +
After a prolonged battle and a sweet stasis Protoss manages to emerge victorious and took surprisingly few casualties. + Show Spoiler +

but Yellow Zerg is back at it, pressuring Orange's expos with another large Hydralisk force. I bring my carriers back from razing the Terran bases to fry some zerg. + Show Spoiler +
With the Zergs dead Terran's last hope lies in a group of cloaked wraiths sniping the obs and taking out as many carriers as possible. + Show Spoiler +
We actually played these games today but we were hoping we could get together and do some race wars or something goofy on Wednesdays. It was a lot of fun today.
I'd definitely join in this, Race Wars are amazing.
Orbital Death is probably my favorite map for this. Constant action all over the place.. the bigger the map is, the worse the game is cause it just gets dull over time.

There were even a couple of streams here on Teamliquid, streaming all the fun.
Now I've got an idea to make this channel even more accessible and coordinated, so I've set up a BOT in it that will be online 24/7. This is not an "official" BOT, it's just the means to provide some neat things. Like this:

By positioning your mouse over a person in channel, you can see when was he last active, so it's easier to spot the afkers.

And there are plenty of more things that we could do, just from the top of my head: - 2v2v2v2 - Free For All - Phantom BGH - FUNDAY MONDAY!!! - Custom maps - kona said he would make a custom map(s) specifically for this purpose. That would be pretty interesting. etc...
Also, besides having a casual games on weird maps, we could also schedule to play more serious 1v1's, if anyone wants to really improve. I'm sure there would be ton of people willing to help.

Concept sounds superawesomefantastic, but unfortunately I cannot play broodwar to save my life (started playing a long, long time ago and gave up pretty quickly ><").

That's all part of the game. If two of the races are stupid enough to keep attacking each other blindly, of course the other race is going to win. Changing this and allying completely against the strongest race would really be against the spirit of racewars imo.
Awesome games today and so many people participating.
Especially the last one i played in where protoss let me live because I was the only zerg and I ended up macroing up and taking out after P and T beat up on each other.
Fun stuff guys. That game on labryinth or whatever that map was called definitely taught me that cattlebruisers aren't very good at defending spread out expansions from speedlots.
We definitely need more organized events like these, its alot of fun gettin together and playin BW with fellow TLer's!
I think it would be fun sometime as well to break out some of the ancient maps from the first starleagues and play some games on those too.

I'm thinking put the mains a little closer to the centre, with 1 natural for each player, 3 or 4 contested/shared expos, and also some island expos as well.

There have been a few epic games with bcs..there was one where me and milkis teamed up with the lone zerg to fight against 3 protoss. My bcs+milkis' epic wriaths+zerg drops everywhere was insanely awesome.
This thread needs more Battle Reports! Even though it's not a racewar, here's one from a monobattle game. It was a 4v4 BGH public game on ICCup with Pholon, Scaramanga, Pupa555 and myself, while other team was random people that joined. For those people not familiar with a monobattle, it's pretty simple. You're allowed to make only ONE type of fighting unit and you must declare to others which unit you choose.

I put a poll on the front page to see what times ppl are on. I divided times up into 3 hours each, please just pick whatever times you think are best. Dunno if I could make one where people could vote for more than one option, I think that would be better for determining times.

1. Reducing resources to 15% (but middle of map still remains rich), so main's minerals will run out after 40mins (most games barely last 15mins...). This is to avoid turtling Protosses mind control a second or third race for long drawn out games especially in 2v2v2v2 games where they let others duke things out. It also forces expansion battles, and to stake the middle. And BGH is already so familiar to many, so might be better than regular Hunters. 2. One mineral patch in each expansion can be mined out quicker to gain access to expansion cliff.

Phantom is like FFA hunters, except one player is secretly the 'phantom' and gets extra resources. The other players have to figure out who the phantom is and eliminate him to win.
P.S. If Konadora is in a game of Phantom then he is always the Phantom and should be wiped out first no matter what lies he tells.

I played a couple games as squishyinvader. Wouldn't mind playing again, but there are usually only like 8-9 people when I go to op teamliquid and they're usually afk oO.

Sounds to me like... a RACE WARS DETECTOR??? Some sort of app or program that detects everytime someone goes into the OP TeamLiquid Channel and shouts RACEEEEE WARSSSSS, and then a bunch of people get their buzz and suddenly we have a crowd?? If so, I am so in!

I would love to try this out sometime, I haven't played BW in ages and I wasn't very good to begin with but it sounds like fun. I voted 3-6kst I live in PST and I think that would equate to 8-10ish my time, I'm not sure though.

As people's school years end, more and more will get back into the swing. I personally haven't been able to play any BW the past month, but now I'm free, so once we get back into swing, you'll see me around.
Hell yea I'd love to, especially with my re-discovery of the UMS-bank (lost that one after DLing all I could a while back), but I can't tonight, but in 2 nights YES!
Oh and I need to beat blubdavid to national top-3 rankings (C- wooot) so I'm sure to be on iCCup a serious ammount

Just while this is bumped, I think you guys may be interested [the main target audience]; Im working on a new 3vs3 map called Red Heart Ridge. Its kind of like an adapted version of Bloody Ridge for team play, where each team spawns on the same side of the map. And its nearly finished! I'll make a new post when its done.

Well, with the last 4 games i played on Sunday, all we zergs did was kill a toss or terran, but then we do nothing the rest of the game. Also, damn terrans sieging my natural...
Here goes nothing, wheeeee! Geez, 4 hours late. In the line of 'doing things together so that the scene doesn't die ' we really need to organize regular BW playings times during this summer!
You know, I'm the sort of guy whose tried really hard to quit playing BW. But every time I do, I eventually wind up on iCCup to get out of an emotional low. Thing is though, I'm so out of practice, ladder is a painful process, and what I really want to do is just play Team Mele and Race Wars with people in OP TL.
Problem is though, no one ever wants to play those with me QQ So really, this is likely the best place to bump, but what I'm trying to get to happen is some people come online and play silly stuff with me. Ok bye
Yeah i would like to play one more of these... remember when we were playin for 2 hours and yes Zergs won ( I was one of them, we did kongo line of cracklings all the way and terrans destroyed themselfs with siege :o)
