Thank you for your time ! Also, I agree that the term sniper is a little misused. I see what you meant, you used it for a player that good impressive results in a matchup, but that's not the real meaning. We usually use "sniper" to designate a player who can only play 1 match up, and the coach successfully "snipes" the opponent if he plays the race the sniper is good against. Example : SkyHigh TvT, Horang2 PvP, etc. But saying that Stork is a PvZ sniper sounds strange (although I admit he had a very well prepared cheese against JD). Same goes for sniped, for example Saint is just bad at every match up, and he by chance met a lot of protoss and lost to them. I don't think anyone attempted to 'snipe' a terrible player like Saint lol. But anyway, the way you presented data was very innovative ! My dream is that one day they give us the structure of TLPD's SQL tables and let us perform read-only requests. You could literally get any kind of information !

Out of curiosity, do the top spl/liquibet people use things like this to decide which players and teams to choose for their teams/votes? I've always winged it, and have been under the impression that the top splers/liquibetters have some insane stat analysis to decide ><

Jangbi and Shuttle both had little streaks where they appeared to have PvZ worked out a lot more then went back to usual complete inconsistency. Same with Movie, except for some reason people got worked up about him a lot more. He had some games which looked like complete rapes due to good timings but he wasn't overall stronger in the matchup than any other Protoss at that level. I had hopes for Flying but turns out he can't do it either. Bisu is seriously the only Protoss capable of consistent PvZ. I'd love for someone else to figure it out as well. Storks been doing alright recently but still... not convinced.

Some of it's just how much you follow the game. I'm 223 in the BW LQB right now with a 57% on both, but I doubt more than about 500-700 people actually vote every ballot. As for fantasy, I've finished in the top 100-150 every time I've had a couple rounds worth of data, but there's also a ton of luck involved. For instance, Hydra went 4-6 in R1, 10-0 in R2 - how do you predict something like that? On December 31 2010 14:58 endy wrote: Also, I agree that the term sniper is a little misused. I don't think anyone attempted to 'snipe' a terrible player like Saint lol. The first couple teams I did data for were Ace and hite. Both of those have a player (GoRush and Horang2) who's really strong in one matchup, and terrible in another. I kept the term even where it doesn't quite fit - but part of what you'll see is that some teams don't really have a true "sniper". Bisu, for instance, is insanely good at everything right now, but his PvZ really stands out - and nobody else has a MU that does except (probably) fantasy's TvT. Other teams the "sniper" - the autowin matchup the team wants doesn't fit either the way we usually think of the team, or the way the team plays: e.g. STX. Modesty is known as a ZvZ player where in fact he's only 2-1 this year (and TBH has similar records in previous years). The reputation is a combination of the fact that that's how STX uses him and the fact that other STX Zergs are usually even worse at ZvZ (except Calm when he's not being Clam). But I didn't have a better term to use.

Flash's group had two other Terrans and a Zerg, and the Zerg was eliminated. Bisu's group had Shine, Really, and Kal - Shine was eliminated. In other words, there are 9 Zergs in the MSL Ro16 because Bisu, Flash, and Jaedong avoided Zergs when picking groups (though I don't know how much say Bisu had in his group, as he was coming from the MST this season). Jaedong's all Protoss group is wussy I guess but totally makes sense. Flash only pulling one Zerg... well the two Terrans were relatively new?
