pathfinder doesnt seem like it would have long drawn- out games. i think gladiator would be interesting. almost a similar concept to HBR but with the middle being more accessible and more high ground terrain advantage.
For a second there my hopes raised that pathfinder would be an island map. Also does having a no-build are outside the nat on pathfinder mean that we won't see any proxy gateways or rax on that map?
I was thinking some of these maps look really weird, then I realised the image was cut off. I don't like Pathfinder at all, but I do like Aztec Not sure about Gladiator, looks like it might be fun though.
Man I don't know about balance on those latter two. Pathfinder looks like a map pulled out of 2003 or something, with how open it is and that rush distance. Wonder if we're gonna get any "Terran tanks abuse imba" comments that's usually associated with new maps. >_>
There's only 3 maps this time, isn't there usually a 4 map rotation?
What the fuck these maps look scary to play on.1 more PL map should be there,or maybe Dreamliner stays? If it does Flash is not gonna win this season I can tell you that.
Is it just me, or does it look like 12 o'clock got screwed on their nat > min only positioning on Aztec? It looks completely imba distance-wise compared to the other 2 positions.
Gladiator looks like it'll produce some really exciting games though! I can't wait to see how the pros play it out.
Interesting concepts for the two new maps but the rush distance on Pathfinder seems rather too short for T/P attempting FE vs. Z, that combined with the new 10-mineral-in-main trend will encourage more 1-base play. Gladiator looks very suitable for epic macro-oriented games. Excited!!
wow i love these maps, finally something that is not favoring Flash. Really looking forward to games on pathfinder and gladiator. Hope mutas are not to be OP on pathfinder, but it has short rush distances so zerg might be dead before he gets mutas
Flash really plays better on maps that are bad for (other) terrans. Somehow he finds the right strategy for every map and knows how to see advantages in everything.
Also, don't count Flash out. I think his tendency toward defensive play this last year was mainly caused by the fact that it worked damn well on most of the maps he had to play on. He's adaptable, and will likely be able to handle these maps.
Also, anyone else miss Fighting Spirit. Simple, bland, and nearly perfectly balanced.
I still think Pathfinder looks awesome, haters gonna hate. Terrans will need to be more aggressive on it than the usual sitting back til 3/3. If these maps don't help PvT, I don't know what will.
Pathfinder looks interesting... T will have a hard time due to not being able to build anywhere, might lead to being a terrible T map but good for z/p. Gladiator looks pretty interesting imo, not sure what I think about it yet. Zerg will definitely have an easy 3rd gas though.
I'm just in absolute awe at pathfinder. I just can't get it around my head. What were the mapmakers thinking? I really really want to see this map work around some semblance of balance. The games on it will be interesting to say the least.
Quick takes: Pathfinder looks like Xeno Sky - that map Fisheye beat Boxer on ye many years ago. Only it's a different tileset, a three-player map, and doesn't have the island expansions. Muta will be a problem, but if that means Protoss finally stick with sair-heavy builds, I'm all for it.
I really like Gladiator. I think ZvT will be rough, though: a single ridge dominates the min-only and the entrance to the 4th base. Expansion across the map will likely be the order of the day again, only I don't know if that will work, either. On the other hand, it's been a while since we've had a map with no gas at the 3rd base, so I'm curious what people come up with.
Aztec I've liked from Proleague, although teams haven't liked it for Terrans, and ZvP's been an issue so far.
finally checked myself, there are parts of pathfinder in the middle that are buildable. Still the map looks wayyyyy open.
gladiator looks neat, but in the copy I grabbed there seemed to be no logic to which ridges were buildable and which were not (i.e. it wasn't consistent which ridges were not buildable in their positions relative to the player mains, for example) - I wonder if it's intended or not
