=== This is your third consecutive OSL final, thoughts?
I'm very happy, this is particularly heightened because my opponent is JD-hyun. Also, this OSL is hosted in China, if I get good results, this year will become the most successful year in my career.
=== You seemed to have won with ease.
I planned to play very offensively/aggressively today, so I made a lot of impromptu decisions. Due to the map, I had to play defensively in the second game; however, on other maps, I wanted to change my turtling image, so I played very offensively. My prepared tactics worked very well.
=== You lost very regrettably to Free's proxy gate in set 3.
I was very surprised. The possibility of a proxy-gate did not even occur to me. I was angry at myself for not realizing that this was a viable opening. Even though I typed "gg", but I was very angry at myself afterwards. [t/n: this was really confusing in Chinese, so the translation is probably off]
=== This is the first time since Boxer in 2001 that someone appeared in three consecutive OSL finals.
Many people have mentioned to me about this record, how it began with Boxer, and will end with me. Even though I still lack in many aspects when compared to Boxer, I and still very happy to hear these comments. I will do continue to do my best and win the title.
=== This is the first FvJ in OSL final
I was a little hurt before this series of games. [insert commentator name] joked that for viewership, it's better if Free advances. I was not happy about this comment. However, the other members of the crew all said that, on the contrary, a FvJ final guarantees good ratings, which was comforting to me. We already gave exciting matches during the MSL final, we will perform 120% and give even better games for this final.
=== You are 7-0 (series) against Protoss
My greatest opponent is JD. Many people still believe that JD is better than me at BoX. I must beat JD-hyun and make people think that I am the best.
=== JD mentioned in his last interview that this OSL final will be the most important set of games in his career.
This is very much the same for me [t/n: literal translation - I will also risk everything for this final]. Even though I have won quite a few finals in the past, I will definitely not become lazy because of this. I have many reasons to motivate me to win even more titles, my determination is not worse than that of JD.
=== If you win again, you'd have the same number of titles as JD
I don't really care about records. What's important to me is to defeat JD. Winning will make me a great player like JD, which is the most important thing to me.
=== This is the first OSL hosted outside of SK.
I feel that this final won't have the same atmosphere as a regular final, it will definitely be different from finals held in SK. However, the most important thing is that this final will be hosted in a foreign country, so I must perform well and display exciting games for our foreign fans.
=== If you win this OSL, you will become the first player to win four titles in one year.
I was not aware of this record. If i win again, I think I will be named "most damaging(?) player" [t/n: basically the best player], which makes me happy. If I win this final, I may seen the same way as some of the greatest players in the past. I very much look forward to these games.
=== Final words.
In the past, there were times when I thought too lowly of myself, and there were times when I thought too highly of myself. After my first OSL victory, I was overly confident (afterwards), which was very regrettable. However, recently, I feel that my performance and conditions are worthy of my wins from the past, and also worthy of more wins in the future. This past August has been the most successful period in my career, I accomplished all of my goals. I want to win in September, and make September (part of) my most successful months as well.

Broodwar probably is coming to an end. Blizzard wants to kill it to promote SC2 sales. With Flash vs Jaedong, the pinnacles of Broodwar mastery in the most iconic TvZ matchup in possibly the last OSL, this will be a momentus event. I really do hope Flash gets his Golden Mouse. His legendary skill deserves a legendary title.
|
Flash is already one of the greatest players of all time without any doubt, but winning this OSL would surely elevate him to the highest level. I'll be rooting for you Flash!!
|
in the name of the FvJ rivalry JD needs to win this being dominated by flash recently if JD loses again this rivalry may as well end up the same as Boxer vs Yellow where for YEARS Boxer DOMINATED Yellow i want a more even rivalry this time

That won't happen, because this is possibly the last OSL for Broodwar. There won't be years left for Jaedong to get dominated.

thx for the translation. I REALLY hope this isnt the last OSL

Go Flash. Haven't doubted about it for a second!

|
Flash and Jaedong left everyone else in the dust . No one will ever surpass them .
|
jaedong barely beat stork 3-2, almost losing. i don't really buy into the opinion that these 2 are light years ahead of others.
|
I don't see any reason to have more starleagues after all these Flash-JD series.
|
I think we've achieved the natural climax of BW at this point. Every final should be FvJ.
|
Flash confirmed for bonjwa tier!
|
Yeah, Flash doesn't have to win this, he already smashed enough records. Furthermore, given the time, JD and Flash (at their current pace) will already break records of all old pro gamers. I feel that JD should come up with the epic mind games this series, and hopefully win. (3-2 of course )
|
Great interview, thanks for the translation. I'm cheering only for great games. It has to be epic whoever wins.

"totally dominated" is a bit much. JD played his ass off with some sick defiler control to win that game. But yeah, in a straight up game I do think they're pretty much even (maps notwithstanding).

This is stupid. If you actually watched the game, you'd realise that Jaedong was basically on a razor thin edge the entire game, with Flash clearly advantageous in the early mid-game. Because Flash was overly aggressive trying to shut down 1oclock, he threw away map control, and it was only then that Jaedong took the advantage. To suggest that Jaedong had no problem is ludicrous, and the ravings of a ill-informed fanboy.
|
The only thing which makes the idea that BW may die soon a bit less bitter is to imagine how violently Flash and Jaedong will anal rape players such as Idra or Morrow if they switch to SC2.
Current top SC2 players should fucking pray every day before going to sleep that BW doesn't die any soon.

I hope they make this into one of the greatest finals of all time; with the uncertainty surrounding KeSPA-Gretech, the progaming teams, the new SC2 scene, I just hope that people will be given something unforgettable in this series. If SC:BW progaming is going to end, it should come to an end that will resound forever in people's minds.
|
6 finals in a row for Flash and 4 out of 6 for Jaedong... totally ridiculous dominance by these two players. This could be the final showdown between two titans under the current BW setup... who knows what will happen to the proleague and the teams after this final
|
For fuck's sake, why can't they just leave Brood War alone?
"Oh shit, there's no Brood War on TV anymore. I GUESS I WILL BUY SC2 INSTEAD LOLOLOLOLOL" fucking idiots, god damn it.
|
Ha ha...this is really, really, really getting ridiculous. These two guys are dominating BW so hard its not even funny. Still disappointed that Stork didn't make it into the finals; Flash vs Stork would've been so much cooler (by my reckoning, anyway). Ah, well...it'll still be fun, I'm sure.
Here's to Flash vs Jaedong MSL Finals: Take Three!
|
How can anyone even argue that these two aren't bonjwas.
|
Looking forward to an epic clash once again at Shanghai.
FLASH FIGHTING!
|
Free would have had a chance of beating Jaedong, because he has done it in the past and has good pvz. I think we all realized though that he was gonna get savaged by Flash. Unfortunately Stork choked as he often does, so we now have a repeat of the repeat of the repeat of repeat.
|
|
as a huge fucking oz fan, jaedong fan... if flash wins this... i can safely say he deserves the bonjwa title out of anybody out there. modern day SC aftr savior, the only ppl i believe got close is jaedong... when he was dominating the osl/msl. now flash... HOLY CRAP JAEDONG BEAT THIS IMP INTO THE GROUND!! LEGEND KILLER!!!!
|
omg DOUBLE FINALS, again. so intense
|
I think if JD wins this OSL we should crown both Flash and JD bonjwas. It was unfair that JD and Flash were part of the same era and at the same time its a great thing to have such a dominating rivlary with such a massive disparity between these two compared to the rest of the crowd. Its obvious if JD and Flash played in differant eras they would easily be the considered the best player of that time and cosidered the all time greatest player as well. So gogo double bonjwas .

Honestly, I think with this kind of unprecedented 'twilight' of pro SC, a rivalry like this might actually be the worst thing for BW. What the scene really needed was a diverse scene of top players and upstarts, but instead we're getting the same old things over and over - a rivalry between two great players that always turns out to be either anticlimactic or 1-sided.
However, with the jaded state of BW as it is, I'm hoping that Flash and Jaedong can pull out the amazing final we've been waiting for - i'm not talking that last MSL; i'm talking the NATE MSL before the power fail - that kind of play. If the scene should end, it's only fitting it ends with a show of the culmination of all SC before it.

xD nice Indeed it is hard to imagine these two not owning everyone at SC2 as well. Still, I think you exaggerate. Yes they currently dominate pretty much, especially Flash. But they are still pretty young and not so long on the scene. Nada won his Golden Mouse 5 years or so after his first appearance. Players come and go and in two or three years there will be others who beat them

Jaedong saved himself miraculously like 5 times in that game and in the end managed to win. His playstyle makes it seem like he "destroys" his opponent, but really just one tiny thing can go wrong for him and he will lose outright, making it look like an awful loss. That's why most of Jaedong's games seem like he's dominating when he wins, and when he loses his losses seem just so stupid. In reality it really is razor thin all game long.
If everything clicks for Jaedong I'd say that he might even be the favorite against Flash in a straight-up game, but just one mistake will make him instantly lose.
I'm predicting a 3-2 series, no idea which way it'll go

OGN will host more OSLs remember? They have signed a contract with Gretech. As for PL/MSL, they'll run anyways and win when Gretech take Kespa/MBC to court.

Regardless of the outcome of the OSL, this is the most successful year of his career. Making 3 dual consecutive finals, winning 3 (hopefully 4) titles, plus winning SPL and WL is really something else.
I predict 3-1 Flash, 3-2 if he spawns at 6 on Dreamliner.

Assuming the worst for a second (matter goes to court with KeSPA losing, or just PL dying without going to court), the individual leagues will die out shortly after. Progaming teams exist for the team dynamic.
Individual leagues only really cater to the top % of progamers who can actually make it past ro32 on a regular basis (2-3 players per team). If there was no PL, the team numbers would dwindle down considerably because a lot of A teamers, not to mention B-teamers would retire for lack of playtime. Additionally, team sponsors would be a lot less likely to care as much, because they will get considerably less coverage from 1 of their players potentially making the ro16 than they would from their team playing every week.
In the end, PL has to survive for BW to survive. Individual leagues alone will be the end of progaming teams, and at best you'd have a few sponsored clans with a much less professional setting and atmosphere. Pretty depressing to think about.

Thanks a lot, great interview!
Final words.
In the past, there were times when I thought too lowly of myself, and there were times when I thought too highly of myself. Also the statement "It began with Boxer and ended with Flash" is giving me chills. It seems...odly fitting. But I hope BW will stay strong in Korea and Flash will have time to show us more amazing games.

To be honest, I feel like Flash is displaying a more healthy attitude than Jaedong towards these finals. Jaedong seems like he's putting way too much pressure on himself by treating the finals like his life depends on it. Flash, on the other hand, sounds much more calm and collected, while still exhibiting the same level of motivation. I feel that if Jaedong loses this, he'll go the way of Bisu. However, if Flash loses, I doubt it will change anything, he'll still continue to be incredibly dominant.

I love them both although i do think that flash deserves the same about of titles that jaedong has.

I agree, Bonjwa can't describe Flash and Jaedong...they're even better than the best other players, even in their primes...no doubt about it

In the last 6 starleagues, Jaedong losing to Baby and Flash losing to Effort were the only two occasions where either player was eliminated by someone other than each other.

Wtf? Did you just compare a Brood War rivalry to a very crappy manga series?
I know that Flash v.s. Jaedong is getting old, but oh come on, it's not THAT bad yet.
This is the first FvJ in OSL final
I was a little hurt before this series of games. [insert commentator name] joked that for viewership, it's better if Free advances. I was not happy about this comment. Can't say much about Free v.s. Jaedong being more popular, but I know that the ratings would be better if it is Flash v.s. Stork instead.
Like somebody else mentioned, this season is truly a BO3 tournament series between Flash and Jaedong: OSL, MSL, WCG.
1-1 so far, with Flash ahead because WCG Korean Final is a BO3 showmatch.
As always, Protoss are the stepping stones, again. How long has it been since the last Protoss won something?

It counts in terms of KeSPA / being a standard league, but it doesn't count in terms of the final being indicative of anything, simply because being the winner had no real meaning.

It means MSL/OSL, the two major leagues.
Also, Flash already has 3 gold and 2 silver this year (in MSL and OSL). He's going to end up with 4/2 or 3/3.

Honestly if the OSL finals goes 3-0 I will epic troll so badly... I want every match to open standard + Show Spoiler + and then both players just duke it out on the late game with so much going on that for viewers we'll need split screen commentaries, and that each game will be at least 50 minutes long with late game starting from the 15 minute mark where there'll be blood all over the map and it will all end in one glory fight with a mash of units crashing into each other....... god that'll be epic...

Jaedong was so off his game on that day. I like Stork more, but Stork isn't the better player. But he deserved to lose because he got a bit too greedy. Jaedong better have a better showing against Flash. He could use some sleep.

its the counter to the greedy 14cc, so its all upto how flash dictates the pace of the early game.

Current top SC2 players should fucking pray every day before going to sleep that BW doesn't die any soon. LMFAO I agree!!! fucking idra I just want to kick him in the balls

There is quite a significant difference in prize money between 1st and 2nd place. This is the first time I've felt that winning would be more about the pride than money, and may be the key motivator for both players.
Lets hope it's a great and epic series.
