Title: Next MSL is "Hana Daetoo MSL 2"?? By Fomos' Shim Hyun. "A corporation that is close with the eSports fans, first time sponsoring a league"
MBCGame, on the 25th, while distributing material related to the Hana Daetoo MSL finals, has made it known that after the winner is decided and crowned, they are planning on announcing the sponsor of the next MSL that starts on this June.
After the related materials were announced, eSports fans are speculating that because they are announcing next season's sponsor at the site of the finals, the next season's MSL will be related to the current seasons.
Following this, you can summarize the fan's predictions in two ways. The first is that either Hana Daetoo Securities will sponsor once again and we'll have "Hana Daetoo Securities MSL season 2", or another subsidiary of Hana Financial Banking will sponsor the league.
However upon checking with MBC, Hana Daetoo Securities and Hana Financial Group companies were found to be unrelated to next season's MSL.
The MBCGame official said "After announcing that the next sponsor will be announced on the stage of the finals, there were many fans who were expecting a sponsor from Hana Financial group, but on the contrary to their speculations, the next season will not be hosted by Hana Daetoo Securities or Hana Financial Group."
But the MSL sponsor was confirmed to be sponsoring for the first time in all of eSports history, and they are also in a completely different industry from all the corporations that have sponsored before. The official added "The next MSL sponsor will be sponsoring for the first time in the history of eSports" and that "once the Sponsor is announced, eSports fans will confirm it is a corporation very close to them, and you can find out more during this Hana Daetoo Securities MSL finals".

Oh wow. GJ MBC at being proactive at this. Also glad to see that the scandal didn't end up hurting the proscene.
Hope we don't get another disastrous final like last time >.>
SC BROOD WAR HWAITING!!

I hope that everything goes smoothly in the finals and that the next sponsor will be happy with what MBC has to offer. We don't have many leagues at this level, so it's great news to know they have found a sponsor so soon.

MSL beats the OSL to the punch for once?
At any rate, the finals for both leagues are on the biggest stages they've really ever been, and the sponsors appear to be lining up even more than before. This is excellent.
Pocari MSL?
|
A corporation close with the e-sports fans yet has never sponsored before?
Assuming this includes sponsoring teams as well it gets a bit uh .. weird.
Blizzard? Not really.. kespa wouldn't like it most likely and Blizz probably isn't interested in bw anymore unless it was a way to market sc2.
|
Anybody care to take a wild guess at the sponsor?
The clues: 1. First time sponsoring a league 2. An industry completely different from previous sponsors. So MMORPG is out of the window lolz 3. An industry very close to e-sport fans
Power supply company? I hope it's Corsair.
|
Very nice, MSL getting a sponsor so quickly hopefully spells good things for e-sports future.
I wonder what "close to e-sports fans" means exactly? Well, I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Good to hear that sponsors are not afaraid of the scandals lately. Super fast too, nice.
|
Well the MSL has gotten the best possible finals twice in a row. They are guaranteed a huge amount of viewers. Could there be a third Flash/Jaedong finals? The sponsor was willing to take a chance!
|
That's very good news! Hope Kim Carrier is happy =P
LG would be a HUGE sponsor O.O btw

I think it's an electronics company, makes sense.

Blizzard MSL? It makes sense.
Of course, the main argument against the guess of "Blizzard MSL" is that Blizzard is at odds with Kespa, but I'm not sure how tight MBC is with Kespa. If MBC doesn't take orders from Kespa, then that sponsorship is totally a possibility.

Yeah, Blizzard or Nexon is going to be my bet.
|
My money on Blizzard MSL
|
Why would Blizzard want to sponsor a MSL now? about ten years too late . Also Blizzard isn't really completely different industry from all the corporations that have sponsored before.
|
hell yeah!
This is super awesome news for e-sports!!
|
Why would Blizzard sponsor an MSL? They're already GETTING the advertising from people watching the games, not to mention the fact that anyone who's watching the MSL will likely already have SC.

But I agree with the argument made a few posts above that Blizzard really isn't that different from the MMORPG companies that have sponsored in the past.
|
Yea well, a publicity stunt because of sc2 selling would be the only reason i could think of blizzard sponsoring.
|
Sounds like Blizzard to me, don't know who else would be "close" to ESPORTS fans and not have ever sponsored before. Unless .... TEAMLIQUID MSL? lol

i hope it's a Savior MSL for all the dissapointed fans

how epic would it be if TL could sponsor the MSL

TL.net MSL.. hey we can dream right?

i like Pocari Sweat MSL or Blizzard MSL.

TEAMLIQUID MSL and we give the winner a beta key :<

Blizzard MSL is also oddly the first thing to come to me. but if you think about it, what better way to advertise the newly release of sc2 to the biggest sc1 consumers. Besides, we had some public publications of the blizzard/kespa argument, showing they had been talking alot recently. Blizzard sponsoring is like, solving those issues they have with starleagues and preparing the terrain for sc2.
|
They say the sponsor is from a industry that hasn't sponsored MSL before, so that rules out Blizzard since they've been sponsored by game developers before.
|
MBC is an influential member on the board of Kespa, it's not Blizzard.

Korean Air Force MSL? First time sponsor, not in an industry that's sponsored before, and close to Starcraft via Air Force ACE.

This makes me so happy. The best news ever.

Blizzard MSL Korean Air Force MSL

My first thought was blizzard TBH, but I highly doubt that will be true. What industries havn't sponsored eSports before...?

Google MSL!!! Surely everyone in Korea must have been using google like mad crazy like here in America!!

I find it funny though that I actually really wanna support the companies that sponsors starleagues and proleague.
But a bank, security company and an airline :S
Maybe I should fly to korea open a bank account and hire a bodyguard while doing so.

Funny enough, like the only sponsor that is relevant to us in North America is Samsung.
I don't think I own a single item that's made by Samsung. >.<
|
Intel or AMD maybe?
They're much bigger companies than the MSL has had in the past, but Intel did something with GOM before if I remember correctly. I know AMD sponsored a team in the early 2000s but I don't think they sponsored a league.

I dread for the possibility of Facebook MSL.

+1 for Blizzard. I'm looking through the OSL/MSL list and don't see any other game companies. I mean, why would any game company besides Blizzard be supporting SC? Blizzard is also obviously close to eSport fans.
The only part that Blizz doesn't completely match is "The next MSL sponsor will be sponsoring for the first time in the history of eSports", because of GomTV, but whoever made this statement may just not have counted that.

That is good news Korean Air for OSL this season now this for MSL
|
well, it's certainly good to know that they've found a sponsor already, seeing as how much trouble they had this season and with the betting scandal.

Thats awesome! I cant wait the final this week end, of it will be a great show. They already found the sponsor for the next season thats awesome!!!

"KEPCO MSL" (Korea Electric Power Corporation) will be announced during the mandatory power outage.

Savior MSL, putting that ill gotten money to good use.
|
British Petroleum MSL
A BP spokesman admitted "not actually" being familiar with the game, but the company wants its brand associated with the e-sport these days because "we heard these players are really good at keeping minerals down".
+ Show Spoiler +Yes, oil itself is not a mineral, but I couldn't resist the temptation to make the worst joke ever.

Sweet, Great News Indeed

Blizzard sponsoring Starleague would not be a first in eSports FYI as they sponsored the GomTV Classic. LG makes phones and electronics which also would not really be a first since KTF is a mobile phone company and Samsung makes electronics. Pocari Sweat is already a minor sponsor of some of the teams right?
It is probably a slight mistranslation saying the sponsor is different from anything in e-Sports. We should go off the title that the company is different from anyone who has sponsored Starleague specifically, which opens a lot of possibilities.
Otherwise the only industries that are untouched I can think of would be a power or oil company, or a restaurant chain. Have any consumer goods manufacturers sponsored eSports before like Unilever or P&G? Maybe a car manufacturer. It could be Microsoft (games for windows) although that is still a software development company like Blizzard. I think clothing companies are untouched as well. The Airforce is a possibility but on that talk show which was recently translated the commentators seemed to be of the opinion the Airforce would want to distance itself a bit from eSports given the recent scandal. I think Razer could go in the category of Samsung which makes both mice and keyboards.
lol @ okum I laughed

Great news, good that the scandal didn't get the best of the e-sport scene! SC:BW For Life!

One possibility I don't think anyone has considered is Universities such as the one that Nal-Ra lectured at or the institutions progamers like Jaedong use to dodge conscription. I've never seen a university sponsor a sport event before but they do spend a lot on advertising and esports fans fit perfectly into the demographic they are after.

If it's actually Blizzard that ends up being the sponsor, I think the future looks very interesting indeed...

my bet is Nike MSL (they can shove more apparel to fans) or Microsoft MSL (ummm, they have lots of monies)

Would be very interesting if the next MSL is Blizzard MSL.
We all know that OGN is owned by CJ, which also owns GOM, which owns SCII.
If MBC also sides with Blizzard...umm.
Btw, as CJ fan, I like how CJ is taking over e-sport.
|
|
No idea of who the sponsor may be, but at least they got one :D yaaay
|
Rofl at "i'm sorry" MSL ... so many great memes off of this so far
. For the sponsor to be close to e-sports fans it would have to have already sponsored gaming tournaments or leagues in the past, just not an MSL. Something obvious like computer equipment manufacturer I presume, Razer, AMD, Intel whatever ...
|
Since everyone is posting their guessings i might add one as well :
Hyundai MSL :D .
|
I'm so excited to find out who it's going to be. I'm almost 100% sure that it won't be Blizzard, since they sponsored the GomTV Intel Classic. They have also made it pretty clear that they won't cooperate with Kespa, and I think MBC hasn't (at least not yet) cut all ties with Kespa

Pocari Sweat MSL!!!
that aside its prolly some bigtime game company sponsoring... NEXON?

u think that a season of MSL runs shorter than 2 months? i don think that the people running MBC would be stupid enough to go ahead with a Starleague without first cutting a deal with Gom/Blizz first, if they went ahead with it without the consent of Blizz/Gom right now, when the grace period comes, MBC would have to accept any terms/condition offered by Gom/Blizz or they'd have to call the whole Starleague off in the midst of it...
