EDIT: OOPS didn't see the update on the official thread. Feel free to close this mods
I am sorry. I am sorry. I am truly sorry. To all those that are related to the e-sports scene in some way, to all those that play under the different teams, and especially to my teammates and my fans who watched over me and believed in me til the end: I am truly sorry.
Even though I don't deserve to get to apologize to the public, I believe that it would be no better to not say anything at all, so I humbly write this apology.
Excuses like 'I wasn't old enough to think straight' or 'I had a momentary lapse in judgment' cannot make up for what I've done... I'm aware of that. I am at fault for not being able to withstand my greed in that brief moment [before making the decision]. I am sincerely regretting my actions.
Despite the knowledge of my fans that had continuously cheered for me and taken care of me for the last 7 years... and that they were the ones that had propelled me this far... I don't know why I did what I did... I was very ignorant.
When even I can't forgive myself, I know that a few words like these can not make my fans forgive me or reverse what I have done... but I still want to say that I am truly sorry.
No words can make up for what I have done to those that have cheered me on and supported me...
Thanks for translation. Was it open to comments from fans? If so what is the general reaction?
The original thread said it had a lot of mixed reactions if I'm not mistaken. Still, Hwasin.. ;_; Like I said, just give us a few sexy photo shoots and we're gonna come back to you.
hmm it is indeed open to public comment. There are 13 pages of comments and most of them seem to go along the lines of 'You suck :[ but thx for the apology. GL' Many seem to be defending him for having the decency to at least make a public apology.

so members can add those little things (think of them as stickers). The juice bottle says "cheer up!" and alot of members have left him something of that sort. Here is what it looks like now:
I always found public apologize the dumbest thing ever, why would he knee to us saying, "I'm sorry", You found a way to earn more by cheating, it's ok million of people do that everyday. It's not like he's different at a point he needs to say "sorry"
I mean yes he's different at a point, he has been busted.
He should be sorry for the system to be so shitty that would be more fair instead of thinking he's the one that did an error.
who cares... its hwasin. poor guy just wanted to get paid so he could keep up with his friends' gucci habits. he got caught, and now he is "sorry...really sorry"... i wonder how much of his ill-gotten lip gloss, rings, sunglasses, silk socks, britches, kerchiefs, etc. were returned?
Excerpts from the last Hwasin interview on Fomos. I'll refrain myself to just highlighting the words that make his part in the matching fixing scandal that much more hurtful to his fans.

Nice translation, much better than mine, you obviously put much more thought and care into it than me when I translated it in the original thread in 2 minutes, lol. Props.
Also think it's the most sincere out of the translations, btw. Even though it doesn't really contain anything new, the delivery is more sophisticated.
I for one do not even think he needed to apologize, although he did which can say a lot (unless it is just a PR stunt.) Honestly though people, instead of "you suck" or "you should be ashamed your not living up to such heroic standards" think about what he has to do. IF you had to not just "play" but repeatidly practice SC:BW for over 10 hours a day everyday with only a day and a half off (not even two days) think about how much time that really takes, if you slept for 6 hours that leaves 8 hours of free-time WHICH would most likely go to other things such as schooling, and the pay is pretty horrid for the conditions they have all because they aren't considered doing labor. Stack all that up and you get one pretty pressed controlled lifestyle.
IF anyone should be apologizing it would be the damned companies trying to penny pinch and save every buck they can, and the players are the ones that get the short end of the stick because of it, while the people out of sight that you never see get rich from it.
Corporate greed has no bounds or limits it would seem, and they are very good at keeping the true blame off of them.

Maybe the interview was taken when Hwasin has already been trying to correct from his wrongdoings and stopped throwing matches. But once a game thrower, always a game thrower
at least hwasin apologized... but damage has been done, i don't think apology could still lift up his career. anyway, how about the others or did i already miss the threads?
There's been a lot of speculation about which games were thrown, but I'd really like to know.
Regarding the apology, I respect Hwasin as a gamer. Always have and always will. He's one of the best TvZ players in history. That said, apology not accepted. The big theft isn't the money; it's the integrity of professional gaming.
I for one do not even think he needed to apologize, although he did which can say a lot (unless it is just a PR stunt.) Honestly though people, instead of "you suck" or "you should be ashamed your not living up to such heroic standards" think about what he has to do. there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more people that pity should go to
For example, hard labor. Contruction workers, floor cleaners, Interns, clerks, type writers(lol), teachers, who deserve my sympathy then pro gamers.
The A-teamers get free lodging, money salary, free computers, free food. Tell me any hard labor job that provides that.
Hwasin got greedy and abused his position. These kind of scumbag should be cleared off the sacred ground of starcraft pro gaming.
This doesn't sound like a genuine apology at all. Note the number of times he says, 'He's sorry.' From a psychological point of view when someone repeats something over and over again they're trying to trick themselves into believing it.
well what kind of apology would be acceptable? reality is, after the matter, nothing is as meaningful. I am curious what the reaction would've been if people had stepped out and said they were in a scandal. would the reaction be any different? would the apology letter be more acceptable?
Its a given that the letter MUST be written, whether real or (most likely) a PR stunt. reactions to hwasin would've probably been worse without this letter.
well not really go.go but he seemed like a funny guy and justin just never shone lol.
sigh...... zerg twins that were once top 5 zergs at their best matchups. hwasin who nearly took down savior. savior who started the whole bonjwa thing.

If that's the case, pretty much everyone in the world would be a coward, which makes your statement pretty pointless. Unless, of course, you always apologize for your wrongdoings BEFORE they come to light, which I highly doubt.
People make mistakes. Some people make more serious or more publicized mistakes than others. I choose to believe that the measure of a person is not the mistakes he/she makes, but how they can move forward and grow as human beings despite them. The fact that he even bothered to apologize certainly says something since there's absolutely no reason for him to do so and it's way more than some of the other people implicated in the scandal have done.
Hwasin could have just crawled behind a rock and completely hid from the public eye, which is what most people would do in his situation (Koreans in particular), but he chose to come forward with a statement acknowledging his guilt as did go.go and Type-B. Acknowledgment of one's wrongdoing is the first step toward growth and redemption. What else do you want from him? Would you prefer he hang himself to repent for his crime? If he did, you'd probably just call him a coward for "running away from his problems" or something, then.
It's clear that some people just won't be satisfied no matter what happens or what these people do. All I can say to that is think of all the times you've screwed up in your life and think of all the second chances you've been blessed with. If people were forgiving of you in those moments and you were able to build yourself through your experiences, why shouldn't you be forgiving of others and why would you feel that they are beyond redemption?
Reading such always makes me feel the sadness and shock the writer must have been in. I'm kinda good in forgiving because of that. I hope he can get back on a self confident line in terms of gaming soon enough and that this doesn't break him. I really don't guess any of these guys to be self righteous jerks who would do such a thing ever again.

Right. My comment is to emphasize that the apology is largely meaningless.

Isn't it absolutely ridiculous to think that people might actually come out and fess up to their crimes BEFORE they are caught?
Apologies like this are real easy to just think "aw, he's really sorry" but it's a mistake to think that. He's sorry for getting caught. Now he's just trying to save face. For some of you, it's working.

Why on earth would you fess up to a crime before you are caught?
Whether you are caught or not has no bearing whatsoever on if you actually did it so really, fessing up before you're caught means nothing really. There would be the same outrage that he did it in the first place and blah blah blah.

Of course he's sorry for getting caught, but no one will ever know if he's sorry for what he did. Maybe this whole incident changed him as a person, who knows?
Personally all these guys are forever tainted in my mind.

While I will remain skeptical, I won't immediately write it off as him just trying to save face until I see his actions following his words. Of course words alone mean don't mean a whole lot, but they are an important first step and as such, do have some meaning in that regard so long as they're followed by appropriate actions and changes.
I certainly know many times in my life, there were points where all I could do at first was say words. Many of these pro-gamers are in this very situation right now. Just because you're unable to fix the problem right away or show through your actions that you're changed or grown doesn't mean you shouldn't say anything at all.
I will certainly wait and see how this situation unfolds and if given some sort of opportunity, how these players choose to move forward. I do hope that they all learn from this event and grow through it.

Even if one regrets a missbehaviour before he has been cought, chances are big that he will not confess on his own. The thoughts rather are "Ok, it was a mistake. Now if I go and tell, I'll be ruined. But possibly that will never happen." People do not think that their crimes need punishment when they think that they are right, for example because they changed since then and accepted, that they were a bad person - what does not mean that they need a punishment now, since they have changed.
So if a criminal confesses before he is under pressure, that might be a huge bonus for him because he obviously accepts his mistake. If he doesn't, it does not have to mean that he does not regret what he did.
Check out this video from 8:00 on. It's about empathy.

It's called many things: turning yourself in, whistle blowing etc. Believe it or not some people do fess up before they do get caught. It's called goat nads. You either have them, or you don't.

NO excuses but yea....
IIRC Firebathero paused a game because a ref accidentally pinged his enemy's position. He then proceeded to completely pwn the guy using a nuke rush.
About the sincerity, or lack thereof, of apologies coming after being busted, I think that it's kinda delicate. Sometimes people who apologise are dead serious and getting caught acted as the slap in the face which helped them actually get rid of that cheater mentality. For that reason one shouldn't be too quick to just go "fuck him he deserves zero sympathy", because sometimes that's just too harsh.
On the other hand, even a sincere apology can't ever be viewed as good enough to avoid consequences. People like Hwasin still need to receive some punishment here even if he regrets it sincerely.
If he is truly sorry, quitting is not what he should do. He should try to stay as a programer, admit his errors in live television, help the police and serve as an example.
:\ I guess that explains a lot, like when he lost to Go.Go in the OSL group stages playing like a total idiot, which denied Bisu a chance at the tie breakers.. fuck you Hwasin piece of shit has always been rigging matches and throwing games.
On one hand he made a wad of cash that he spent as he damn well pleased and had no thought of ever coming clean. Now that he's cought, he would like to apologize? The proper way to settle this is to becaome Boxer's official limousine driver for ten years. Both him and that CJ has-been.
I'm glad Hwasin apologized. I'm glad he understands how disappointed all of his fans are. He ought to be banned from ESPORTS for life, but the gesture was nice.
I'm mostly sorry for his teammates who depended on him to win games. I hope he will grow as a person from this and make better descisions in the future.
He is sorry because he got caught. Do you think he would of said anything if this scandal wasn't brought to light? Of course not. The apology is meaningless.
I would be pretty sorry too if I messed up my life, all of my relationships, and everything I ever worked for over a little bit of extra cash. I hope he disappears so he can't tarnish my favorite industry any more than he already has.
You cheated the chinese and now you cheat your own people. Fuck you Jin Young Soo.. fuck you. I honestly loved your TvZ but that's when you were a real progamer. You maddafakka.
he was just a kid who was offered to make more money and he screwed up big time. but 90% of people here would do the same as he did so don't be so self righteous.

Agreed 100%
You have to apologize before you get caught. Yes, not many people would do that, but then again, not many people are truly sorry. If the investigation somehow overlooked Hwasin and he wasn't caught, do you really think he would apologize and feel bad for his actions?
He is apologizing because of all the grief and guilt that is happening to him because he was caught. He regrets the decision of doing it because of these consequences that occurred because he was caught. If he was never caught, he would have never had felt sorry in the first place. After all, why would he? The money is good and he doesn't have any responsibilities to win anything.

Who is a hypocrite? If I did this I wouldn't admit to it until after I was caught, and hence I wouldn't feel people should forgive me for it. That is 100% consistent with what I've said.
