Flash: "I hope to see Jaedong in the finals." "I initially wanted to go for 3 consecutive bunker rushes."
- This is your first ever MSL finals. ▲ I am very glad. But I was still not fully awake so I wasn't able to express my happiness. Deep inside, I was very overjoyed. I have climbed so high, so I have to work even harder to produce good results.
- Are you sleeping a lot because of fatigue? ▲ Yes, and I'm still not feeling 100% yet. Lately, I haven't been able to get good sleep at nights. My condition isn't that good because I was too used to sleeping and waking up late. I will have to learn to manage myself better.
- You have successfully entered the finals of both individual leagues. ▲ I have heard that there are hardly any players who have managed to get into the finals of both individual leagues in the same season. Only great players have successfully pulled this off, so I am very glad that I am able to catch up to such players. I will be extremely happy to win both leagues, and by doing so, I should be able to bring myself to the next level.
- With the OSL finals coming soon, it must have been tough preparing for today. ▲ It wasn't easy. Judging from my builds today, you would have noticed that I was practicing more for the OSL. To me, playing against a Protoss is much harder, and the maps used in the OSL are more favorable towards the Protoss than the Terran. Also, I was really confident in my TvZ skills, and the maps used today were decent for me, so I practiced more for the OSL. If I make up for my weaknesses with more practice, then I am confident I will be able to do well in the OSL as well.
- Your build choices imply that you were planning for a 3:0 victory. ▲ I was. I felt that it would be hard for me if I didn't win 3:0. I was focusing on capitalizing on Kwanro's weaknesses. But in the second set, due to bad scouting, I lost the game without being able to do anything. Despite my loss in the second set, the third set turned out well, which was why I was able to take that game.
- You went for a bunker rush in the second and third set.. ▲ I initially planned for three consecutive bunker rushes in the first three sets. I planned to do bunker rushes in the second and third set from a long time ago. I might have gone for a bunker rush in the first set if our positions were switched. My coach said that it would be extremely funny if I went for three bunker rushes in a row.
- The fourth game was similar to the first. ▲ Kwanro is a very aggressive player, which made things tough for me. But somehow, he made a lot more mistakes today than usual. I think I won rather easily when I defended his Mutalisks with my Wraiths and gained a lot of points.
- Who do you want to face in the finals? ▲ I hope to face Jaedong. I have lost to him in the past and to me, he is a very important opponent. Maps don't matter. Even if the maps are difficult, there still are players who defy the maps and win titles. To me, the maps used in the OSL are tough. I cry about the OSL maps a lot (laugh). But on the Grand Stage, I think that it is the players' skills that matter and not the maps.
- Aren't you tempted to leave your mark in history by winning both individual leagues this season? ▲ It is a record that is only held by a single person (TL Note: NaDa). I am now closer to being of similar status, so this is a very important phase for me. It will be a test of my confidence and I think I will even be able to challenge for a fourth, fifth and even a sixth title.
- You are noted for having much less titles as compared to Bisu and Jaedong. ▲ I am not thinking about that. This is not the time for me to think about other players. What matters is that I should do what I must. I feel that I have to push myself to the limit and put on a good show for all the people supporting me.
- You will now have to focus on the OSL finals. ▲ I am only going to think about the OSL finals from now on. Even until the last minute, I will only think about it.
- Any further words? ▲ I am very grateful to 815-hyung who helped me out, despite being his day off. He helped me as though he was practicing for his own match. I plan to treat him to a huge meal. I am also grateful to the Zergs from WeMade FOX, as well as Hwaseung's Jaedong. Jaedong helped me practice once for each map. I learned how to play adaptively according to different players.
Flash has some crazy practice partner connections. I'm sure it worked out well for Jaedong too, though (to get a more recent feel for playing against Flash for the MSL finals). By WeMade Zergs, I wonder if that includes Shine?
vT: Flash gets practice help from fantasy vP: Flash gets practice help from Stork vZ: Flash gets practice help from Jaedong
And that's not including the players on his own team. Yikes.

Is there anyone who shows more sportsmanship than Jaedong? He has his own semi-finals to play and even skipped PL game on Saturday to prepare against Kal, but yet he finds time to practice with Flash.
With jaedong's resolve and ZvP there is no way Kal can beat him in a Bo5. I'm already warming my seat for the Jaedong vs Flash finals. I can't believe the dream finals are about to come true.
So cool.... JD and Flash being close and showing good sportsmanship!!! the 3 bunker rushes also help Flash not reveal any of his TvZ tricks/strats left in the bag... or so he wants us to think... Hmmmmmm. It only makes Flash vs Jd Finals more awesome
almost went for 3 bunker rushes lol.. congrats for making it to the finals Flash, you'll go down there, JD helped you with this one just to beat you in the finals ;p
Triple bunker rush would have been awesome, the ultimate homage to Boxer :D He sounds superconfident and in a good state of mind so can't wait for the finals!

it was a class act Jaedong had there in helping Flash prepare for the semis but i don't think he did it without any motive 'cause in return he also had a chance to study flash's current TvZ better. Flash is just 2 steps away from being able to carve his name next to Nada's but since big upsets did happen in the past nothing can be taken for granted yet, lol, it's gonna be fun if Flash manage to pull a double flop, may shit be flying everywhere on TL for weeks, i guess.

Hero's in STX!
Hero is in the same clan w/ Flash, "By."
Flash didn't mention anything about clan members helping him practice.

That won't happen. I don't think any Zerg will ever 12 hatch 3 times in a row after Yellow did vs Boxer. Especially Jaedong after seeing Flash bunker rush Kwanro and after Flash bunker rushed him on HBR to knock him out of OSL.

On January 15 2010 02:54 thunk wrote: Who's going to recruit who to help practice in the Jaedong/Flash MSL finals?
No idea. It may be hard since I think there may be a break in Proleague around the time of MSL finals so most players would be off(again just speculation, for further explanation check out my posts in the lineup threads). Kal has a chance to beat Jaedong so don't call it just yet.
Looking at the dates. He was playing the latter stages of the MSL at the same time he was playing the earlier stages of the OSL. The only thing that was a month apart were the finals, really.
It's still very impressive, but it obviously wouldn't be as impressive as winning the OSL and MSL in the same season like Flash has a shot at. The individual finals will be played less than one week apart, which is a much tougher schedule.
THOUGH, amusingly enough, Jaedong/Kal will only have 1 more day of unfettered practice time over Flash, since he plays the OSL finals the day after Kal vs Jaedong. It's only a slight practice advantage. The most difficult part, I think, is when you're in the early series/group stages of both tournaments and still have to play proleague because you're not that close to title contention -- this is where Jaedong faltered last season and, frankly, where every progamer not named Nada has faltered as well. Once you get to this stage it's just playing 2 Bo5s a week apart while taking a small break from PL after fulfilling his duties which, honestly? Doesn't seem that bad for Flash.
I'm just rambling but I think Flash's workload isn't so bad right now and he has a real shot at this. Totally excited. But hell, I'll just be content with an OSL title. :3
I've hated Flash for so long. Well, I mean, I've hated his "character."(like in a script) I don't really know the guy at all and I have nothing against him other than he's terran, ugh, and we zerg players have to stay united.
But now, if he does manage a double star league this season, I am going to have to admit, and it's hard to say, it'd be pretty cool.
The catch... is that Jaedong knocks him out of both leagues next season :p
edit: I just realized: If I'm Kwanro and Jaedong helped Flash practice, I'm pissed at Jaedong.

edit -- actually Flash isn't #1 in MSL. before the semifinals he was 7-1 compared to Jaedong's 7-0. He had significantly harder competition but it's not fair to take away that Jaedong still hasn't dropped a game in MSL.

I saw the games, and I cant believe Kawrano went Guards twice. Other than hoping for a ass whopping there is no better choice. Set 4 he even see 1 of Flash's starports.
On January 15 2010 04:56 Southlight wrote: What's the difference in positions that made him NOT bunker rush in game 1?
They started cross positions. If they started outside of cross positions it would've been a build order win as Bunker Rush + 12 hatch = gg when it's not cross positions. But Flash went 14cc instead which does give him a slight advantage over 12 hatch with cross positions (so any muta/lair rush gets crushed by a booming economy backing 3/4 raxes). Basically, either of Flash's choices crushed what Kwanro went for. Pretty solid sense.

I corrected myself! It's such a big, econ heavy map you just automatically associate it with being 4P and thus apply it to 4player rush/econ strats.
CURSE YOU ODD EYE
My point that Flash read Kwanro perfectly stands, though -- 14cc or bunker rush were both the counter builds to Kwanro's 12hatch there, and in doing so Flash's sense was impeccable. :o
It's a two player map, but the map isn't symmetrical down the middle. It's diagonally symmetric, which would force you to build buildings side by side instead of top to bottom. iirc, it wouldn't even be marine proof, never mind lings.
As Kwanro vs Light showed, it's easy for a zerg to just run in lings and win the game.

Yea and too bad kal has no good zergs to practice with...oh wait. I dont disagree with jaedong being the favorite but to say kal has no chance is foolish, that guy sneaks dts in bases alot so theres always a chance.
I'm a little surprised about Jaedong helping Flash practice for the match. Either Jaedong is a really nice guy, is good friends with Flash, or has alterior motives. Helping someone practice that eliminate you from the OSL, and will face in the finals if both of you win your ro4 matches seems odd. He's either nice or wanted some material to study if he should face him in the MSL finals. Maybe a bit of both.

They're friends and JD is nice
I think it's more than that though, JD already keeps on saying that his MSL was so easy so far (which it was) and I do think that he always wants to play the best player, he always says that during group selection, too (unlike bisu for example).
I mean JD vs Kwanro would be an automatic win for him, Jaedong doesnt have undefeatable JvZ anymore but against Kwanro it would be an easy win. He wants a challenge, he wants to play the best. And that's exactly whats gonna happen if he beats kal

sloppy game!?!?!? wtf? is it just because it actually went to a game 5 that its sloppy? the only sloppy game in this series was game 5 where canata lost very suddenly. just because jaedong had a hard time doesnt mean he played bad, it can also mean canata played really well.
No, everyone recognized that Jaedong wasn't playing near up to his standard but were very impressed that he seemed to somehow practice the perfect amount to skate by in the MSL without sacrificing success elsewhere. For Jaedong, that was one of the sloppiest series he's ever won or lost.

I think scara didn't quite get that Jaedong practicing with Flash only helps Flash for their semifinals, as Flash is playing TvZ and Jaedong is not playing ZvT
Jaedong played 1 game, ONE GAME, on each map. That's only 4 games! Respect for that but people make it sound as if Jaedong was the main practice partner for Flash.
On the other note, triple bunker rush would be so hilarious!
SO IT WAS THE COACH THAT RUINED THE BO5
Nope, it was the fact that everyone, including flash and kwanro, knew kwanro has no late game management skills.

I am speechless...
What? Flash has a pl game, the osl finals and the msl finals and JD has one semis and he's the one with awsome sportsmanship? You're joking right?

This is the point im trying to make, 4 games dosen't mean jaedong has the best sportsmanship ever Its not like if flash asks JD for some games hes going to deny because he has to practice for his semis

Considering the sick schedule people like jd and flash have I wouldnt say 1 hour of their time is nothing either. But I think the more important part of it is that is the fact he's helping him at all. Hell, if I was Jaedong I would talk to kwanro and give him some tips on how to beat flash, cause kwanro in the finals -> easy MSL title for Jaedong (if he beats kal)
