It's sad that SUper Daniel Man had to give up his dream. He did a great job and I'll miss him. That's just the way the world is though. People have to work soulless jobs to pay the bills and put their real dreams aside because society just doesn't care.

SDM has a wife and a kid. With GOM S4 going down and Kespa turning into SM Entertainment, it was good for SDM to make his move that will guarantee a stable future for his family.

What's sad is that he's not one of those stiff-ass Koreans that doesn't speak his mind. I always thought his insight on esports were outside of the box thinking, and you just don't see that very often in Korean esports. I really do hope he can keep esports as a hobby, especially with SC2 on the horizon.

GOM's on hiatus.
Daniel Lee just needs that job.

Wow, this is really upsetting. Not enough can be said for all the hard work and devotion this man has put into progaming and bridging the foreigner scene with the korean scene. Not enough thanks can come from us, I think. I only hope that he sticks around the starcraft scene a little here and there if he has any free time. Tough to lose such a figure, though it is completely understandable. :[

gl man

i'm going to miss how you made so much fun about foreigners and compared them to koreans like they were gods and how it would take 2000 years of training to be on their level.

Depending on what his job exactly entails, he could probably make a lot more money in insurance when compared to e-sports.

What's sad is that he's not one of those stiff-ass Koreans that doesn't speak his mind. I always thought his insight on esports were outside of the box thinking, and you just don't see that very often in Korean esports. I really do hope he can keep esports as a hobby, especially with SC2 on the horizon.

SDM and Tasteless were easily the best commentary duo EVER. Huge loss, especially since he understood that unless Starcraft grew beyond Korea it wouldn't have a future.

I do not think it can be overstated how big of a loss this is for the foreign StarCraft community. Even in Korea itself, there are very few people that have as much history with the Korean progaming scene as Daniel Lee does. In addition, he was one of the few people in Korean e-Sports who was open to the audience outside Korea. Overall, a dissapointing turn of events.

To be honest, I would not be suprised if his retirement from e-Sports is a consenquence of the dispute over GOMTV. With the league forced to end, GOM no longer has any use for commentators. On the other hand, his former affiliation with GOM preety much ensures that KeSPA will never allow him to work anywhere else in the Korean progaming scene.

I was hoping GOM would find a different way to continue supporting StarCraft events, such as another Star Invitational or sponsoring another MSL. But I guess Daniel Lee was forced to find a different line of work instead. At this point, I wonder if Tasteless will be forced to do the same.

Take care, Superdanielman. You will be missed.

This man has done such important things for the foreigners in the e-Sports scene. He was the one to invite IdrA to eStro. He was instrumental in getting the first ever English speaking broadcast of a Korean tournament. Success of the foreign e-Sports scene, in Korea or otherwise, has much to owe to him.

I wonder whether this has anything to do with gom4 failing and thus SDM just altqq rage-quiting...

Shit. I'll miss that baller.

I just can't believe he's doing something outside of esports. His love for esports was thoroughly apparent and that passion led him to be so deeply involved in it. I hope he will not be able to stay away from esports simply because he seemed to be so intimately tied to the industry. If not, I wish him the best of course.

His commentary was so insightful and backed with loads of experience with the game and the workings of the esports industry. It would be such a shame to deprive the world of that for good.

According to Reach, he is the fastest learner he has ever seen. He start bw only like 2/3 years ago. Infact, his bw history knowledge is so limited, he didn't even know what the map Guillotine was.

Racism. Cool.

Sad to see Daniel go.
Misusing the word racism drastically. Cool.

and yeah its sad to see SDM go, he was pretty cool. Realistically he had to do it though, at least until sc2 comes out- then who knows what opportunities might present themselves, entirely possible he will make a run at them. We'll have to see.

Look At all the comments!! It seems that in 3 days there are 150+ Koreans that commented on this article. Here is the only english one:

"scint:
Members of the foreign Starcraft community will never forget the first steps you bravely made to ease foreigners into the Korean scene. Between inviting IdrA to eSTRO and doing the first-ever English broadcast Korean tournament, you have opened doors for the community that have been closed for so long. The future success of foreign e-Sports owes much to you, Daniel Lee. 화이팅!"

After all that talking about eSports and etc. and now this... he also did screw me around for an interview, I had much problem with this man even if I did pay him huge, tons of respect he never gave it back. Now I see why. I respect him for his deeds but as time did gone by - I just had lesser and lesser opinion about his persona.

Well, I believe this was taken shortly after the team was created and before ArtOfTerran, Shinya, Siva, Peter, and Brian moved in. Originally, Hexatron was supposed to be a team made of "old legends" and that was their gimmick for a while before Giyom left, and then it just became a regular team. No legends, just any players they could afford.

So sad to see him go. Whether or not you enjoyed his commentaries really should be irrelevant because he has done much for the Esports scene and did tons of behind the scenes work to further the life of professional gaming.

I am sad to see him pursue anything besides Esports, but a man's gotta make a living.

Good luck SDM!

Anyways, Daniel Lee definitely had a side I didn't like, but on a whole he's been pretty key in the SC scene, both foreigner and Korean. Too bad to see him go.

If every single gamer he's worked with didn't hate his balls he probably would have got the job at blizzard he asked for. He speaks English fluently and has 10 years of experience in the Korean progaming scene. How many people are more qualified in the whole country?
