Introduction An exciting new tournament, pushed into the korean starcraft esports scene by GomTV / Gretech (previous sponsor of 4 MSLs). The tournament will be broadcast live across the internet over GomTV from the GOM TV Studio in Mokdong, South Korea. New to this tournament is the focus on the foreign non-korean audience by Gretech, following on from the success of the GomTV Star Invitational, Nick 'Tasteless' Plott returns to provide english commentary for the entire tournament.
Prize Money GomTV is boasting over $100,000 (USD) in total prize money. The prize money split is approximately $40,000 for 1st place, $15,000 for 2nd, $10,000 for each semifinalist and $5000 for each quarterfinalist.
Format The format of the tournament is a single elimination bracket, with the early rounds as a Bo3. The tournament features 148 players, with the 32 of those players awarded with a seeded position based on their high KESPA ranking. The initial first Round of 128 will feature the 116 non-seeded players, and will continue to the first Round of 64 before being joined by the seeded players. + Show Spoiler [Seeded Players] +
Issues The tournament did not receive approval from KESPA to be an official tournament. Additionally only seven (out of twelve) of the current korean starcraft esports teams are participating by sending players to compete.

I don't think they look kindly upon a third party entering late - pumping in some cash - and tapping a market they've built from the ground from the very early stages.
Good writeup and coverage Pachi. Much appriciated!

More likely OGN and MBC put massive pressure on them and the proleague franchise to exclude a third competitor from entering the market.
Not broadcast games for 4/29 were played at 21:00 KST. However, there are no english commentary vods availiable for them only Korean GomPlayer VODs. Should I still link them?

Yes please!!! Keep linking them! Thanks!
By the way, the links for the 4/29 games are swapped. The second link is for 815 vs Kwanro, the third for Guemchi vs ZergBoy and the last for FireFist vs ForGG.

Great writeup, thanks pachi. Do I need the Korean Gom player to view to VODs? Because when I click the play button on the korean gom page nothing happens.

VODs use a flash player, no program required. The Live stream requires the English GomPlayer. Some people have had issues loading the VODs, but try again a few times, it usually works eventually. Try both Firefox and IE.
I think with some refinement Haskul will become very very strong. I like how he thinks/approaches the game strategically. I agree with tasteless. Had his initial lings done more damage which most likely wouldve been the case if you waited and had he been a little more careful when doing his first muta/ling attack he would be in a great position.
Oh wow some upsets here. Im kinda sad to see that 815 is out before i got to see him again, but then again i like kwanro also, SkyHigh > Darkelf and Effort > GGPlay? What?
Those games, along with his wins over Asam, were the most inspiring ZvP I have seen in a long time. I stand by my claim that YellOw is the greatest Zerg ever. Greater than Savior, greater than July.
and i hope we NaDa and Casy both advance so we can see them go up against each other tvt, i remember ShinHan Masters was so exciting.
and poor YellOw, he works so hard to beat free, and he has a good shot vs oDin. but then... the RED SNIPER Hwasin is waiting for him lol. he had better pray that Lomo will somehow manage to pull off an upset.
i cant wait to see hwasin vs yellow, and i think stork and flash will probably rematch because iris has been playing crappy lately, going to some damn good games!
Savior Effort Great Xellos Jaedong Jangbi Hwasin Yellow Goojila (Kal) Kwanro Stork Beserker (Iris) Flash LuCifer Anytime Yoon (You better advance if you knock Nada out of the tourny...)

In fact, I was surprised that there were no liquibets for R64 and R128...maybe there won't be any liquibets even for R32 ...
That would just be ridiculous if you did Ro64 and Ro128 - too many matches, and too many easy picks (although this tournament hasn't been without its fair share of upsets). Up until now if there would have been any Liquibets it would have been pointless, as everyone would have picked the same players. I mean just look at this set of games from the Ro64 (pt 1):
Who in their right mind would vote for the guys on the left (except for the hopeful few that would bet on YellOw purely for nostalgia's sake). Now at least the games are all guaranteed to be fairly competitive.

Memory is a mediocre terran whom Lucifer beat with mass-dt last week. However, with Casys macro being terrible, he still managed to beat him comfortably.
The only fun thing about those games was that tasteless mixed up their names in the second game.
Looks like flash will win his group or whatever you call it with relative ease unless BackHo can stop him. Now the top group yikes. Jaedong, Jangbi, Mind and Hwasin? I wish Jangbi had somehow made it in flash's group .
i'm going to be in seoul next weekend visiting my sister. i'm hoping to try to catch next weekend's matches live if possible. unfortunately, i don't speak or read any korean so it's not easy to figure out how to do this.
does anyone know where the gomtv studio is? and do i need tickets to go to the matches or can you just show up? also, if this works out, does anyone have any cool or funny ideas for signs i can make in case i got on camera and need to cover my face?

I figure tasteless commentary is great but there's a simple thing he could do too make his casts much much better. Simply by actually talking about previous matchup's the players had against eachother and their recent performance in PL/OSL/MSL, maybe even talk about an interview he read about the player.
I know he'll state stuff like "savior has been in a slump these past months, he was once the #1 player in the world but has since then fallen pretty far down the ladder". If he could perhaps speak about what players he has been losing to in what matchups and why, would actually help a lot with the quality of the casts.
Watching his casts I get the feeling that tasteless actually doesn't do much preparing(ie finding out what each players current performance is). Maybe totally wrong on that but I do get that feeling.
Nothing doing. Jaedong's won 9 of his ten ZvP and hasn't lost a game on Katrina SE, which is the first and last map, and only two games verses flash on Katrina.

Where do you see ForGG in GOM tournament?
Oops nevermind, was looking at the Jaedong vs ForGG MSL entry right below GOM match.
man jaedong is just invincible. it's kind of insane that he's a favorite to 3-0 any zerg or protoss in a best of 5 series, and he's probably a favorite to 3-0 all but the strongest vZ terrans.
This is a wallpaper I drew up after I watched the game Never vs Shuttle with Tasteless Casting. The line was so funny to me, I couldn't help but draw it, then I decided to make it into wallpaper size. It's a quick and rough, but it was fun.
