Hey dudes, so I have 38 more days till the start of my national exams and I have to admit that I am pretty nervous. I lose sleep over how unprepared I am and because of my lack of sleep I can't study properly. I also panic and get very nervous about all of it, so much so that my sleep problems are exacerbated. It's a pretty stupid vicious cycle I guess. I exercise a little and play StarCraft to relieve the stress, and while all these things work, they are only temporary solutions.

I think all these things are seriously affecting me because I've been physically sick for the past two weeks and it's had adverse effects on my performance during the prelim exams. I remember when I was taking my Social Studies paper last week I suddenly had a huge headache while doing it and I felt as if I had to go to sleep right away because I was too dizzy and the room was spinning. I feel pretty shit about it because I usually do pretty well for this subject and thinking that I'm going to do badly for this exam makes me sad. I tried to take my mind off things before the exam by creating a checklist and compiling my essays into a handy booklet for my friends who were struggling with Social Studies, and I feel upset with myself that even after doing these things I performed so poorly, it's as if I've been cheated out of something. Although, at least I can find some solace in the fact that I helped my classmates.

I also just took the hardest Math paper of my life when it shouldn't have been. I really should've been able to ace the paper, so I'm pretty annoyed by that. I think the difficulty of the paper was way above the national standard though, and my school's just trying to scare us into studying harder. My friends all agreed that the paper was a little too hard, but I can't trust these smart-asses, they'll probably do really well.

I've had a week to study and relax, and I've been relaxing more than I need to study. The rest of my prelim exams are next week, and I am definitely not ready for any of them. It's so hard to study when I'm stressed out and when I haven't gotten a good night's sleep. Fuck.

Calm down, and work on rhythmic breathing. Also, calm down.

Stress is good because it makes you work hard. But being overstressed like yourself is counterproductive.

Just let go of societal pressures of having to get a super high score and do the best you can do, and you will.

Azera, I get terrible test anxiety, mostly over maths and sciences, despite not being bad at those subjects. The best thing I can tell you to do is this. Well, 3 things actually.
1. Breath
2. Sleep
3. Study
In that order.

To breath, do what Farva said, he's right.
To sleep, you need to begin to accept that you will do well because your extra sleep will help you study.
To study, I suggest you study by fitting as much as you can on a 8.5x11 peice of paper, then reducing that to a 5x7 card and then to a 3x5 card. If you do this for all your studies, you will basically self-test yourself while studying and you will do well. I suggest that since its a large test, you make 2 of each and then move to 1 of each method. This will get you ready better then most all other methods. Good luck, and if you freak out, feel free to PM me .

Prelim exams are almost always nearly the same as the actual exams in Singapore. Find out what you got wrong on them, and study those things for the actual exams. Then get them right.

Also, remember 90% of the stress the school is putting on you is because they want to advertise their student grades to prospective student parents. You will have a future regardless.

Actually I feel like prelims are almost always harder than the real mccoy. But anyway, GL for your exams and don't forget to play hard once they're over!

Is this supposed to be funny or just annoying?

Yo az time for some time outside or exercising. (assuming that smog is gone) Besides all of the deep breathing and don't stress it too hard, sun light and exercise can really help with things like this.

Of course they are, they're meant to weed out people that can't handle the real exams so that schools don't have to report a failure rate. So make sure you study your errors on those and can handle them, and you're fine for the final!

I don't know though. I've been doing the Ten Year Series for the O Levels and the problems are either really easy or just manageable. The prelim papers from my school and other schools seem so much harder in comparison. I'm talking about A Maths btw, E Math papers of all kinds are all the same standard to me.
