So I went back onto ICCUP for another game. I found one fairly quickly on Python (I really need to check out the newer maps at some point). My opponent decided to stay as Random, and I picked Zerg. I was unsure what to expect, so I intended on opening with an overpool just to be safe.
We are at close air position, and I see he is Protoss early enough to change my opening to a 12 hatch. I put down my pool at 11 and my gas at 10, not really sure what I was going to do just yet, but trying to scout to see what he was up to.
I notice he did not expand, and in fact, opened with 2 gateways, yet I did not notice any zealots at my base. Instinctively, I figure something is wrong, and sure enough, he is trying to contain me with zealots + cannons.
I send my first batch of lings right through his mini contain before he can properly erect it, and force him to make zealots and cannons in his main, or outright die to the lings that got through. Because of this, he was unable to push his contain further forward, and I erected 2 sunkens to prevent him from completely choking me in.
With my first 100 gas, I tech to lair, and get myself a spire as soon as possible. He, on the other hand, decides to build extra cannons in his main, and having seen that, I quickly switch my plan to hydras. I put down 4 hatcheries total, and get myself a decent drone count (knowing that even though he has me contained, he cannot actually push into my base).
I upgrade overlord speed, which really pays off, because he decided that a switch into sair/DT was in order. I break through his contain, kill the DT's he tried to harass me with, and only a few minutes later, I completely crush him.
I get a rematch.
Same thing as last time, he decides to go Random. Expecting some kind of funny play again, I opt to open 9 pool speed. Unfortunately, we are close position, and he did not open with any sort of early pool. I don't put down my pool, but my overlord was incredibly late because of it. I decided to throw down my hatch at 9 (after the overlord) instead, hoping that the earlier hatch will help me catch up a bit.
I put my pool down shortly after he puts his down, and I get my gas immediately afterward. With my first 100 gas, I upgrade to lair, intending on going straight into a muta battle. I know my micro is lacking due to a complete lack of practice for over 2 years, but he's D, so I figure this will be my best chance at getting back in this game (I know I'm behind economically, and seeing as he put down 3 hatches, I'm expecting a lot of zerglings). I put down a spine colony in both my main, and my natural, expecting the fight to get pretty messy before I can get some mutas out. He delayed his gas severely and put up 3 spore colonies to defend.
His ling attack manages to kill my natural, but my natural delayed his attack long enough for me to get my first 6 mutas out, with 2 more on the way. I managed to stall his attack.
Now it is my turn to do some damage. And I proceed to rip him a new asshole.
He left without a GG.
