Previous Life in Korea blogs:

Part 4

Wow. Too long since I've done a blog. The least I can do is make a post-season proleague blog!

I've had a pretty crazy adventure moving to Korea and casting Proleague, so I figure that it would be good to make a blog about my experiences that kind of recaps things from my perspective, and a look towards the future. I think this blog may be a bit scattered, so apologizes on that.

The season has finished. I've changed so much since I first stepped foot in Korea. From the way I dress, to the way I interact with people, to forming relationships, to my casting; I'm a much better person then the Whiplash of 225 days ago. When I first got to Korea, it was a pretty rocky start since I knew nothing about korean culture, the language, or how to deal with korean companies. There was also the whole learning to properly cast thing with SNM, and the initial backlash we both received. There were some low points during the season where there was tension with me and IEG, and between SNM and I. I'm glad that in the end I received some great advice about how to handle korean companies from Tastless and that I was able to resolve my issues with SNM.

To note on my experiences casting the OSL ro4 with Chobra; I had a blast doing that. Chobra is a great host and allowed me to be in my element and do some great analysis during the matches. OGN is super professional, the staff is wonderful and passionate, and I'm sure it won't be the last time I team up with them.

As for people I've met and seen korea, the list knows no end. I want to thank everyone I've met and befriended in Korea, including Wolf, Doa, Khaldor, Tastless, Artosis, MonteCristo, Chobra, Brendan, Emily, Jaeho, GoRush, Canata, Jinuk, Spencer, Peer, Amanda, Andria, IceBlink, Vincent, Ghost, LastShadow, Scarlett, Rain, Brian, Torch, Jason Lee, Naniwa, SortOf, Alive, Dimaga, Apollo, Thorzain, Stephano, TLO, Hyvaa, FishStix, Seo Ryeong, Chung, River, Jieun, Bobby, Jiwon, Miss Yang, and Son PD. If I forgot your name... sorry there's so many!

I also want to personally thank IEG and all of their staff. Without them (and SNM), moving to korea and casting Proleague would have been impossible, so a HUGE shout-out to them. Thank you guys.

Now a look to the future, what does it hold for me?
I will stay in Korea for at least a few more years. Its a wonderful country to live in, and still the largest esports mecca! There is a break between Proleague seasons, so I have some extra time to play with. I plan on getting eye surgery so I don't requite glasses. My korean definitely needs a lot of work, so I plan on taking classes when I return from my vacation to America.

I want to figure out some sort of streaming schedule so I stream at least 2-3 days a week, and getting my terran/zerg offraces to masters on the Korean server, before switching back to protoss. I also plan on watching a lot of football (even though I hate football) in order to learn from their commentators, and to increase the depth of words I can use during a broadcast. I am also going to work on eating a bit healthier and increasing the amount of exercise I get.

I am not sure how much actual commentating I will end up doing in between proleague seasons, but I am certainly open to doing other events that are interesting in working with me. Let me know if you want my services!

Well I that that pretty much sums up most of the things that have been on my mind. Cheers!

Your casting improved immensely throughout the season, by the end of it having you team up with Wolf, Khaldor and Chobra at various events(Code A Quals, OSL) I enjoyed your casting a lot. Keep working hard and you will definitely become a lasting figure in Korea. I remember when both Wolf and Khaldor first moved over there to cast the GSL, they both received heavy criticism and honestly weren't very good at the start. However, roughly two years later and now to me they are one of the premier casting duos in all of sc2.

It's awesome to hear you are staying in Korea Whiplash! At the beginning of the Pro League season - I was definitely skeptical about you and SNM casting. SNM improved but still struggled and I was not too fond of him. But you really seemed to show great passion for the game and the willingness to improve and that's what I really began to like about you. You have a lot of potential to be an excellent caster - you showed that when casting with Wolf a few weeks back at the Code A qualifiers and with Chobra for the OSL. With the right co caster, you really can be a great caster! I can't wait to see what else you are going to do in the future. Keep working hard and you are going to continue to do great things!

I honestly think that the finals were the best cast for both of you, which is always a good thing. Good to hear that you'll be staying! Do you specifically know if you will be casting the next season of Proleague?

I think you look just fine with glasses, your urge to get a refractive surgery came from being in Korea .

The Proleague finals cast was incredible, definitely a new standard of professionalism for English casters. Thank you so very much for that experience

Gratz on a good season Whiplash

One suggestion though: you really need to tell your makeup artists to lay off the powder. It makes you look like a pale vampire.

(or maybe you really are a pale vampire)
