EPTI hope that with this blog I am providing something of value to this community. Whether it be a new outlook on life, a contradicting view that you can compare to your own views on life, or a reaffirmation of your own ideas. Just please take the time to read my ramblings. It may give you some light on what to do, but don't take it as what you have to do. Just please think about what I've said and either find your own reasons as to why you disagree or go ahead and agree with me, just make sure you know why. I want people to think about their lives instead of just doing what everyone else does or what their parents tell them to do (although they are probably right
)The Goal
What do I want in my life? This is the question we all need to answer for ourselves. Until you have answered this you really can't start to analyze each step in life or really decide what you want to do for a living. Some people want to change the world, some want to make as much money as possible, some want to just have fun, and some just want to have a family. Once you have decided what you really want in life you can move on to figuring out how to get to what you want. For me it's a mix of a family/ having fun/ making a stupid amount of money. So how do I go about doing that? By far the best way is to own my own business. What business? I have no idea. I still need to figure that out, but I do know what I want out of life so now I can plan the important parts to get where I need to be to set myself up to achieve what I want. Once you have decided what you want out of life it becomes possible to create your own guide or build order to life to get what you want.
School
If you're still in high school and are reading this or have already figured this out than you are better off than the vast majority of people your age. I know most everyone around my age just went through highschool doing what ever they were told and then either went to college because “it's just what you do after high school” or ended up a fisherman like everyone else on the island. You should not go to college ”because it comes after highschool” or because ”You need to get a degree to get a good job”. You should go to college because you have decided that going to college is the next step in getting toward your goal in life. In starcraft terms going to college is like teching. If you want to just build zealots and dragoons for the rest of your life why the fuck would you spend time and money getting stargates? I am by no means saying you shouldn't go to college. The main point here is you need to realize why you are going to college. If going to college and spending 4 years and who knows how much money on a degree isn't helping you toward your goal in life then it is a total waste. So once you have decided if you're going to college or not you can either devote your self to getting awesome grades in High School and scoring well on your SATs and ACTs (take the ACTs if you can) and getting into a good school, or you can say fuck school and have fun while you're not in school and just focus on barely getting your diploma while building contacts for what ever line of work you are interested in.
Post School
This is where you will be spending the majority of your life and basically where you reach and live out your goals. If you have set lofty goals for yourself you will be spending that majority of this time reaching that peak. If you haven't, well... then have fun
. while that summation may seem like setting low standards for your life may seem like the better path, that is not at all what I'm saying. All it means is that the higher you set your goals the longer it is going to take to get there. If you goal in life is to just have a place to life, get a family and have fun the by your mid twenties you should have a job that will pay enough to support a family and you can spend the rest of your life following the same routine and doing what you want. If your goals involve being higher up in the proverbial ladder of life, you are going to need to work your way up. First you have to get through college, and then get an entry level job in what ever field it is you majored in and then work your way up to what ever position you find suitable for your end goals. So what ever it is you have decided on doing make sure you realize how much effort it is going to take getting to where you want to be and stick with it. As long as you know what it is you want and you are willing to work toward it you should be good to go. Don't give up, but at the same time be aware of how far along you are in you quest to your goal and make sure to take it easy and enjoy yourself once you're reached your goal. For example, if your goal is to be a senior member of a law firm make sure once you reach that point to relax and enjoy yourself. Don't work too hard to move up the ladder further, because what's the point? As long as you assessed yourself accurately earlier on in life you should be completely content with yourself where you are now, why add the stress and work load to your life moving up when where you are now provides exactly what you want from life?Summary
So basically, don't live your life the way you are told to, live it the way you want to. Don't do something because it is what most people do, or because it is what you are told to do. Do it because it is part of your plan. Do it because it helps you achieve what you want. Set a goal for yourself in life. Do what you need to do to get there and then enjoy life once you get there. Hell, find ways to enjoy it along the way. Life is not a total drag like all the pessimists tell you, but it isn't a cake walk either. As long as you set a course for yourself and know what it is you want. Life is good. Take what you want from it and make sure you have fun. If you want to live life on a mediocre income and not do anything substantial, than so be it. As long as you are happy you have succeeded in life. Don't let anyone tell you you haven't done anything with your life as long as you have accomplished what you wanted.
