So I just got to work, and I get a call. Go help Joe, give him the loaner laptop, and Tell Steve when he comes in to fix Joe' computer.

Simple enough, i go down do a quick check and it says the System32 files are gone (lol) So Joe is not there, i just leave the laptop in his office.

He comes by 20 mins latter bitching that there is no docking station in the bag, took 3 hours to help him, and starts complaining about the IT people and demanding to see my boss.

well one IT hours are 7am to 7pm, i helped him at 8:30 when i got in. and he was probably helped by someone out side of the location when he got there. So I find a replicator and setup the laptop, which hes probably only going to use for a couple hours till Steve comes in and fixes it. Sigh. btw he doesn't have an office with a window (joe)

He just came down and started bitching that he can't get to files/links that are on his desktop (no shit you broke your desktop) Sigh.

All I can say is Please don't dl porn at work.

Haha, i remember trolling people in IRC and getting them to deltree C: -r -d etc, hit alt+f4, type /quit, and all sorts of other funny things. The particular favorite of most people was to say "Delete system32" and then guide them through the steps to do it. Maybe this guy did that?

This thread title instantly reminded me of this. Haha.

I can't really help, but wouldn't a system reformat be the best option here? Make sure to save the files beforehand.

i really don't see what's funny in tricking people like this, it's just mean. Being able to trust your fellow man is essential for the progression of the human race. I am not kidding, don't do these things.

That's actually... really mean. Lots of nice, reasonably intelligent people exist in this world who just aren't good with computers I think it crosses the line between harmless tomfoolery and you're a complete asshole when you teach someone asking for help how to break their computer. Certainly it's a skill set in and of itself to be able to detect what is trustworthy and what is not, but you've probably caught a few people totally frustrated with their computers who just lost their common sense for a minute.

That makes it sound a lot like it happened to me, haha... But I am only recalling when I went to an internet forum (geeks2go?) for computer help because I was desperate. I was totally unsure if any of the advice was safe to take, but I figured my computer was such an old beater it wouldn't have mattered too much... My dad would have been pissed though, which made me scared. If that forum had just been a bunch of dumb jokers like you, I'd have been screwed. Ten years later I'm extremely competent with computers, but I have friends who only know how to play music and get on MSN. I always tell them to come to me if they want a little computer help because I don't want them to run into someone like you :O

We didn't do it to just random people, but to assholes who came in telling us how badass they were and how we were all noobs and then asked how to create a new partition in his hard drive or something else dead simple.

I feel bad for anybody working in IT.

Also, a bit off topic, but it's so funny to look at old threads and see 1/3 of the people with the nuke icon.

I like working in IT, specially within a company that has mostly engineers. They really don't cause many retarded problems. Its finance and HR. To bad they found my office In fact i had this lady come in and complain about the toner being a hair of a shade to light thus, it was inadequate for the proposal. I then told her i changed it and it was darker, and she believed me (i didn't change anything) Damn people can be irritating when they are under stress

I dealt with my fair share of shit the 16 months I worked at Best Buy.

I am very very happy to not have to deal with help desk or customer related issues in my current job. I'd much rather deal with deploying servers and working tickets, broken servers don't bitch and complain at you like pissed off retards who don't know how to turn their computer on/off.

Help desk makes for fun times like these though, while it's actually going on u hate life but when it's over it's always great looking back for a laugh.
