Both the kosher/halal and western systems for getting meat are cruel to the animals. Deal with it, or stop eating it. Well according to norwegian law, we have to sedate the animal before killing it the halal way. I thought there would be a reason for that, but then again it might be out of ignorance.

I made the mistake of getting it from across the street, and for some reason, it seemed to be vastly inferior. I can't tell if it's because that one is hyped or if it's actually better somehow, but it really does seem to taste better and that's all that counts I guess.

Is it cruel when a crocodile pulls an antelope into the water to drown it (and then eat it)? Is a lion breaking ethical boundaries when it catches a gazelle and eats it alive? We kill animals to eat them, not to be nice to them. If you don't like that, then... you can be a vegetarian, right? On a side note, did you guys know that gorillas cannibalize the babies of opposing tribes during territorial raids? Now THAT'S sick. I heard that sometimes they cannibalize the babies of their own tribes, to get with the mothers because if a mother has a baby, she is totally uninterested in sex. Now that I think about it, it might not be gorillas, but it's some kind of primate for sure.

Human beings don't run on instinct. If you introduce an animal to an ecosystem that can't support it, the animal will go right ahead and destroy it. But as humans when we enter ecosystems that wouldn't support us if we were completely instinctual, we can restrain ourselves. Not that I care about eating animals. I'm just saying, it's not a good argument to compare human beings to crocodiles. Unless crocs start writing poetry and playing StarCraft.

I'm pretty sure that's lions, when a new male takes control of a pride he often kills the offspring of the previous leader (for the reason you stated). Biology is fun :D

Like a lot of the other things that are written in the bible and the koran, this was probably meant as guidance to the people. It was probably a good idea at the time, but now it might not be so painless anymore, I would still be rendered unconscious by an electrical shock, then killed, rather than having my throat slit and bleed to death. It doesnt matter though, because people wont change their ways..pretty sad that we can be held back by some old book. Did you even READ what yaqoob posted? The halal slaughter is by FAR the kindest to the animal. So you can choose; A) Painless death, or B) Extreme pain followed by death.
