So i decided to do it again. The rules are exactly the same, (no stimulants, coffee as an exception) except this time no money is on the line since we are both broke. This time i'm going for the 100 hour mark, which i haven't even gotten close too in my past two attempts, which were: 61 hours, 13 minutes. 78 hours, 28 minutes.
Its 8:42 AM. First day should be incredibly easy, but i've got to stay up for 5. If i manage to get 100 hours i dont think i'll do this again, it messes up my sleep patterns way too much. Like before, i'll post every successive 12 hours.
|
|
good luck I guess.
what are you going to do anyways lol
|
rofl, man Ive done this challenge before, and as you mention You've done this, why the hell would you do it again.
I hit roughly around the 94ish hour mark and dear god I would never do this again. Halucinations are so not worth it.
|
I guess it's an interesting experiment but my advice is that you should find another hobby. I mean working out or learning guitar or something else is much more beneficial and most likely more fun.

Why do you do this to yourself? I just don't get it.

Oh damn, that's pretty crazy...

Lol i already work out quite a bit, but thats not the point. I really like to stay up, i've found after the two previous times that it kind of "grows" on you.

Its fun. After a couple days you dont really feel tired anymore, and its very interesting to see how your mind has changed. Also lol why not?
|
That sounds fun I wish I could try something like that.
So what do you do to pass the time? My guess is after the first 48 hours you shouldn't be driving or be out of the house most likely lol. Movies and gaming? Do you get really hungry? etc.
|
I've had a recent bout of insomnia which really sucked.
sleep pattern got screwed up to sleeping at 7-8 AM and usually waking up around 2 PM (woke up and dozed off to 4 PM one time)
purposely staying up for long periods of time isn't something I would strive for
|
This reminds me of those 2 articles about SC players collapsing and then dying after long hours of gaming.
Do yourself a favor and find something else better to do
|
man Good luck and if u do get to 100 hours please PLEASE sleep alot

This is really a dumb idea.
People have committed suicide from extreme sleep deprivation. In fact a local radio station in Pennsylvania had a DJ that was doing a bet to see how long he could stay awake some time ago. Like after the third day or something he actually shot himself to death.
I'm sure it is person-dependent. Some people can handle it way better than others. But if you are doing it just for fun, you really need to find something else more worth your time.
Not unusual:
"Thursday, September 15, 2005
Sleep deprivation might have caused 24-year-old Ricky Vega to drop out of the Hands on a Hardbody contest Thursday morning and kill himself, local psychologists and doctors said.
"Very rarely would people in this competition go to the extreme this person did," said 20-year psychologist, Dr. Craig Moore. "This is pretty extreme, but sleep loss can cause perceptual distortions. Anything can happen."
Dr. Rekha Reddy at the Good Shepherd Family Health Center said sleep deprivation interferes with cognizant function and impairs a person's judgment.
"It causes an alteration in mental status. They're disoriented and may not know the date or time or what they're doing," Reddy said.
Moore said sleep loss can also trigger pre-existing psychological illnesses, such as bipolar disorder and major depression. It can lead to sudden psychosis, he said. A person suffering from those disorders would have trouble thinking clearly, communicating effectively, understanding reality and behaving rationally."

I'm going to completely ignore anyone that says anything about health risks or tells me that i'm going to die, because i already discussed it to death in two other blogs and i really dont want to do it again lol.
|
yeah it's your life to do how you want. My record is a week without sleep which isnt so bad when you have something to do all day everyday. I felt constantly high after the third day though

But why would you waste your time doing something with relatively no gain, no purpose, and is technically demobilizing any productivity for four days straight? You minds as well just take LSD and get your friends to tie you up and drop you off in the middle of some random city.
|
Seriously though, why do it? Just setting some sort of personal record?
The process neither fun nor productive AND is a health risk.
|
don't ignore my post, it's not that long and it's not like im gonna lecture you or something
but when people say it's bad for you, they are just being honest.
you kill a lot of brain cells by doing this. do you want to become stupider?
I am sure there are healthier alternatives, whatever the reason you are doing it.

Lol well i've researched it for hours and hours, considering i have a lot of free time when i'm not sleeping. And i'm not really worried AT ALL about doing any lasting damage from staying up for 5-6 days. I've done all sorts of drugs (including meth, but only a couple times.) and i'm pretty sure that most of them did more damage to me than staying up.

That is one of the worst attitudes I've ever seen. Would you say that to a person ready to shoot up some heroin?
Just because you've been through a self-degenerate process before doesn't mean people shouldn't try to stop you from doing it again.

I can't stop someone who already was drunk.
But I can stop someone who is about to stay awake for an extended period of time. I cut my losses and save only the people who are left to save. You must understand that...

Second of all, you telling him that's it's neither "fun nor productive and is a health risk" is just stating what he knows already. Repeating to him isn't going to help.
Third of all, no, I wouldn't say that to a person ready to shoot up some heroin. But there's no reason for you to ask that because that's not the situation here. Despite the few parallels, it's just not the same.

You will not make me stop depriving myself of sleep, being unhealthy is far too important to me. Also you didn't answer my question about whether or not you are against recreational drugs.

I realize this is his blog and his intentions are his own and all.
But he posted this for one reason or another. Primarily to update it within certain points of time while he has been awake. But also to provoke responses. Otherwise he would have not blogged it. I don't really know what kind of responses he was expecting since his previous blogs followed somewhat on the same path. But common sense would say these responses would have been the majority of comments to this blog seeing as they were with his last two dealing with sleep deprivation also.
Of course I know that me trying to say anything will not convince him otherwise. But he knew he would get an abundance of those replies. In fact, I think he might even want them. It would not phase me at all to see someone open their blog to feel the somewhat artificial benevolence of people who give the image that they care. But I wear my heart on my sleeve! All I want to do is love!

I opened the blog because a sleep deprivation challenge is a big event (relatively) in my life, and a blog is supposed to be about ones life, no? Also its a good way to keep track of how long i stay awake.

geez man, i don't recommend doing this. i realize you've done it before, but that's no excuse. when i was finishing my thesis i had been awake for 52 straight hours and was pretty sure i was going to die, it took me a week at least to recover from that
why not do a 100 pushup challenge instead?

Yes staying up late is fun and its nifty to see who can stay awake longer. But 100 hours is seriously retarded. You are wasting a week of your life with negative effects on your body. I know I'm not going to stop you from staying up but you need to realize that if this is a big event in your life there is something wrong. Go find something productive that you would be able to waste a week straight on and have something to show for it.

You have your previous attempts noted down to the minute? Seems like a hoax to me. I know from personal experience you can rougly estimate the time you were awake but after you've been up for four days chances are you're going to wake up a day later and not know what's going on or when you fell asleep, exactly.
Also posting every 12 hours wont convince any of us, You could easily sneak in a nap, or several naps even! Post every 2 hours!

I have them noted down to the minute because i decide the day before when i want to start, and then i write down in a notepad what time it was when i get up. Its not hard. Also posting every 2 hours would just get obnoxious.

every 26 hours or so you feel like your just going to fall asleep but then your body wakes up the rest of the day, i think its best to anticipate the crash and take like 4 vitamin c packets and drink 3 glasses of water with it, that way you wont go through the drowsiness.
