So I'm a sixteen year old male and I'm losing my hair. I'm not actually bald in any area, but its thinnest on top(noticeably even when dry) and when wet you can see my scalp at the hair division lines and generally my hairs just thin. It's been happening very slowly for approximately a year and a half; but its hard to give a good figure cause I can't tell how long I spent denying it and avoiding for a lot of that time. I guess I was kind of floored but I'm past that stage. Then I guess I decided it wasn't a problem and I shouldn't be so vain but I'm through with that as well. Now I just want to do everything in my power to halt or reverse my hair loss I started using fairly gay shampoo (Tre-seme(?) anti-breakage shampoo) and stopped wearing hats (a myth I know). So I researched the causes using the magic of google and it wasn't too helpful. I don't have ringworm or cancer; I'm not iron deficient of malnourished; I'm an athletically built 5'8, 140lbs. So I'm fairly sure it's genetic, my brother also has a bald spot, which sucks. So does anyone have any advice for me; are their any things I should or shouldn't be eating? Is anyone else fucked over like this or beaten this? Most importantly, is their any stuff I can use to fix this, chemicals substances or what not. Really anything at all; I'm a fairly good-looking dude and I would very much like to get laid in the future and my hairs a big part of that ( ). So if anyone has any input, I'm all ears.

Well I'm a bit older than you but I've noticed my hairline seems to be going back a bit on the sides and it unnerved me.
I'm just keeping a positive attitude and assuming it isn't going to do much more for a long time XD

Are you stressed out hugely? If so, there's a chance that's it. If that is it, you need to get rid of the stress (obviously), and then it will stop.

see a doctor or get rogaine?

Seeing a doctor will probably get you more (and better) advice than here.
That being said, Sleeping a lot and reducing your stress should help, as artosis said.

try to reduce stress, try to sleep, eat well. try to live healthy. give yourself scalp massages.
also just accept that u may bald at a young age because that's life and it really won't be that big of a deal. really.

Go to a dermatologist and get a opinion. Only a dermatologist could tell you whether it's fixable or not.

sleeping incorrectly can cause stress, and since you are so young, you may have a hard time identifying this. im not saying this is what is causing it, but even so, just for your general help, aim for 8.5 hours of sleep a day.

Not sure about the hair loss but it is most likely genetic. I haven't really heard of anything that you eat that can cause hair loss. Stress and lack of sleep could be a factor, but I don't think it's that influential that you'll have such noticeable effects so early on. You definitely could ask your doctor next time you go in for a physical (or earlier if you are worried)... do you expose your hair to any sorts of chemicals or something? Maybe swimming + chlorine (don't think that causes hair loss but I know it changes your hair if your in it for a long time, like black hair being dyed brown)
|
you post like a douche but I'll help you anyway
here is a recommended source:
http://www.baldingblog.com/ (use the search, all sorts of stuff is answered by a reputable doc)
TLDR chemical overview: finasteride (sold as propecia) slows down/halts hair loss but won't grow back receding hair, taken as pill minoxidil (sold as rogaine) increases hair growth cycle, topical application only, does not slow down/halt hair loss
for young people finasteride is best
if you are taking drugs for hair loss, you must be prepared to stay on them for life or hair loss will catch up (so if you don't want to bother with applying rogaine on your scalp 2x/day or whatever your hair will be fucked harder if you suddenly stop using rogaine on minoxidil dependent hair)
both drugs have side effects
you really should go to a doctor though (preferably a specialist) for an accurate assessment

Only some styling wax every now and them (I've got bisu style long hair so its kind of a must). Thanks though

yea 3-5 hours on weekdays isnt optimal i would say as artosis says 8 would be good but 7 would be a nice realistic goal

if you scared shitless by the prospect of losing your hair it means you have some issues you need to deal with, and you will be happier.
sorry to spout my buddhism crap but that's really the truth

sorry to spout my buddhism crap but that's really the truth I'm 16; I don't want to be ostracized. I'm not bursting with confidence, is it wrong to not want to draw stares. I don't talk that much, my appearance in many cases is my first and sometimes only impression I make on strangers. Of course I have problems outside of losing my hair; that's why I'm desperate to not have them compounded. You're right, but I can't.

Does the bald gene run in your family?

it's not wrong to not want to be ostracized, but you're reaching the age where people are more openminded. soon your personality and how you handle life and self confidence and a ton of other factors are going to be more important than how much hair is on your head.
most people are much too vain, like to the point where it is pathetic(not saying you are). you're a young guy and obviously intelligent and for the most part people your age are very ignorant of this sort of thing - but things don't work out like they do on t.v. the vast majority of people don't look as good or act as smooth as things might seem.
regardless, even if you do lose your hair, if you are in good shape and cut your hair very short or shave your head, you won't look bad. actually, many girls specifically dig that look.
unless you already were ugly - in which case sorry but that is life.

over masturbation will cause hair loss.
your testosterone gets coverted into DHT
|
Rogaine, Propecia, etc. These things are more-so proven to stop future hairloss than to regrow it. But at a lifetime cost of XXX$ a year is it worth it to keep your hair?
Go see a doctor and get his opinion and maybe he can help you decide what to do.

your testosterone gets coverted into DHT Oh my it does. I never knew this. What exactly is "over-masturbation" ? Also to OP: http://www.4-men.org/malehairloss.html
* Reduce the intake of Hormone-polluted beef and dairy products. Red meat traps too much hormone-polluted blood. Instead bring more seafood and poultry into your diet. A vegetarian lifestyle has been adopted by many because of this fact.
* Eat more seeds, nuts, and soybeans, which contain L-arginine (the natural growth-hormone agents) and Isoflavones (anti-cancer and liver function enhancement), to help prostate swelling.
* Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits for more anti-cancerous hormones and anti-oxidants/vitamins/minerals. You can even try taking a multi-vitamin/mineral to get the antioxidant group into your dietary habits. Notable vitamins are C, E, A, and notable herbs that promote blood circulation are ginseng, ginko biloba and yohimbe.
* Participate in more outdoor activities to exercise more, improve your heart function, blood-flow and to regulate testosterone levels of the body, rather than burn it into DHT. Try jogging or even taking a brisk walk. Any kind of physical activity is much better for your body than sitting around in front of a TV, especially if you don’t normally move around much.
Stress is also a source of hair loss and the more you stress about losing hair, the more hair you will lose. Try to eliminate sources of stress in your life. Cut back on the "Rosey palm" and other extraneous bedroom activity or at least make sure to reduce your frequency so your body will be able to replenish itself of the lost nutrients and hormones.

Is your scalp excessively dry (does it flake)? Or oily? Does any part of your face flake (like your eyebrows/cheeks)?
I've started to lose hair dramatically around 8 months ago due to "Seborrheic Dermatitis" (I went to a dermatologist and got diagnosed, and you should too) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seborrheic_dermatitis Although I have a really mild case of it (itches and sometimes burns every now and then, and my scalp is very sensitive) I still have crazy amounts of hair loss. Like, everytime I take a shower hand-fulls come out. Luckily I had a huge mop of hair beforehand, but now, just like you stated, my hair is extremely thin on top. I find that when they do fall out, my hair follicles are almost non-existant.
Anyways, I got some prescription shampoos etc. My scalp rarely ever flares up anymore, but my hairloss hasn't stopped one bit yet.
Oh, I'm 19 btw.

When I moved from Bulgaria to Germany I had similar problem in the beginning, maybe it was again the stress but I think it was rather the food and water. All kind of factors could cause such a thing so just go to a doctor. I think you could lack some vitamin B6 as well

btw @ OP check if it's genetic (because then there's not much you can do about it), also i recommend you see a doctor as it may be a side effect to some grater problem.... hopefully it is not but @ your age it may be something else that's causing you hairs to thin.

If it bothers you that much, either go with the bald look, really short (crew cut or something) or just wear a hat. The worst thing is when men go for the comb-over to try to hide the fact that they have like no hair and truthfully, it's somewhat pathetic.
