so i have to do a SUPER huge amount of coding for a project this weekend. Normally, I'd just hero the shit out of the code in my room, but I have to use this special engine, an engine that only USC's basement labs computers have access to. "no problem," i think, "i'll just go into the lab at 7am, get an early start on coding, and finish up this bad boy."
so, its 6:59am, ready to rock out some coding, but the _lights in the room do not turn on_. Apparently, there is some security code I have to punch in to turn the fucking lights on. So right now, i'm sitting in a pitch black basement, its freezing cold, and the ONLY light on is this computer monitor i'm staring at. My eyes are going to be burned into the back of my skull by the time i'm done.
fjsdklgjasklfjskl. i've even called like 10 departments and they're like "oh my that's weird! good luck!"
ffuuucckk -_-

Shit, sorry to hear that...
Have you called security or maintenance?

Wheres the bright idea when you need it! good luck.

Bring a lamp, if you can. If not, then ^, I'd just call security.

He hasn't died yet so..
And I do read lol
That's why I said 'don't freeze and die'

CAUGHT.

On June 20 2009 23:52 konadora wrote:He hasn't died yet so.. And I do read lol That's why I said 'don't freeze and die' then where does the laptop come from, when he clearly says "lab computer"....
anyway is the lab near your dorm/house, you could go bring a coat and some gloves and then work. Or is it possible to copy the engine into a USB stick and bring it home?

I thought he was holding a laptop (because students in Singapore carry their laptops around...)

Has this been procrastinated to the point where now you have to do it all over the weekend? If not, then if the room isn't accommodating you have a valid excuse for why it isn't done. I've found that usually when someone is in a situation similar to yours they have no fall back because they should have done this project a while ago so the limited availability of the computer lab now isn't a valid excuse for not getting the project done.

I don't see what the big deal is; college is all about torturing your body/mind in order to finish the work you should have been doing a week ago.

If it makes you feel any better I have a 1700 bail I have to post from a fix it ticket 4 months ago that I was under the impression didn't cost anything. That plus the expired registration that cost 161$ (and only lasts until dec), the smog I had to pay for 50$, the tire that was riddled with metal debris for 25$ (which is actually the wrong size and fucks my alignment). Oh and the $50 street sweeper ticket i get every month (cause the SoB comes 8 times a month; I apparently have the dirtiest street in america), Not to mention the 2 other expired registration parking tickets I got (one of which I was parked for literally 5 minutes) which are 60/65 $ each.

Situations like that truly suck balls. :/ I often find myself in similar predicaments because of procrastination, don't know if that is the case with you.
