Prague is amazing. Cheap beer, nice city and friendly people have always been my experience when visiting Prague. The local cuisine is disappointing, but there are many italian restuarants and McD's/KFCs/Burger Kings spread around.
Never been to Barcelona, but during the summer it's supposed to be too hot. Spanish food is nice though.
For a 3rd option Århus and Copenhagen in Denmark are both good, semi-reputable places to study. It's probably going to be a bitch finding a cheap place to live, but if you can, Denmark and danish culture is something to experience.

Gotta agree about Copenhagen. One of the best cities I've ever been to, it's awesome!

Both Prague and Barcelona are awesome. Barcelona has some of the best night clubs in Europe and has a shit ton of other foreign students. Prague is an amazing city, with decent nightlife.

So, I assume you're male, and you're a young stud looking to pick up the chicks? Right right?

Gotcha.

http://www.askmen.com/top_10/travel/20b_travel_top_ten.html

Prague is 5th on the list for the cities with the world's most beautiful women.
I don't see Barcelona on that list.

Go to Prague!

thanks for all the replies everyone
I was hopin the poll results would be lopsided, but nope I still got a tough decision :/
Leaning toward Prague I guess... Barcelona sounds like a non-stop party which might be a bit more than I need. But damn I do love the beach..

dunno about Barcelona, I heard it's an amazing city and I definitely intend to visit it someday.

But I have been to Prague for a short period and man, that is the most beautiful and lovely city I've ever seen. +1 for Prague

Prague, although I would never want to live there. Week-long vacation? Yes. Residency for half a year? No. The city is sinful.

Barcelona pros: food, wines, great location with sea close by, easy to travel to rest of Spain/Portugal/Southern France.

Prague pros: beer, cigarettes (a con if you, like me, don't smoke), easy to travel to southern Germany/Vienna/Budapest + maybe Venice/Milan.

Both palces have nice architecture (plus to Prague since I find Barcelona is a bit over-the-top), art (plus to Barcelona no doubt), and women (tie).

As a third option, it may be worth considering something in Italy. It all depends on what you're studying as well!

Korea is probably the only country I visit every two-three years or so due to the fact that it's my motherland =P

That's why I suggested others, but yeah, Korea is a great/fun option.

The most important consideration here is whether or not you are Asian imo. (Only asking because well, this is TL)
If you actually are asian then stay the "3¤? away from eastern europe in general (including prague)
If you are not then prague is a great city, beatuiful, very rich history, cheap everything, cute girls, you name it.

Mostly basing it on the experiences of asian friends living in, and or visiting Eastern Europe. One is studying medicine at uni in a polish town and he is regulary chased by random gangs wanting to beat him up =p.
Having been to prague it didnt seem _that _ bad there but there racism is still very much present. Cops might fine you for "walking on the wrong side of the road" etc.

What is the purpose of travelling, if we do not renounce the predictable safety of home?
