MUMS puzzle hunt
some of these puzzles are off the hook brilliant. I want to give you an example but i don't want to spoil them.

here's puzzle 1.1 Apollo 13.
you're given some text that's like the chatter you get on space missions. You notice that they use a lot of words that are in the phonetic alphabet (words like alpha, beta, charlie, delta, echo, foxtrot,... sorry i was trying to remember how many i knew)
you pick out all these words and write the corresponding letter, this spells something like (my pdf viewer is broke so i can't say exactly)
EXRATDIDAUSEWABUN
split this up into words to get EXRAT DIDA USE WABUN.
Now what's dida and wabun? it turns out wabun is a type of japanese morse code, a way to talk in dots and dashes. It also turns out one of our team has a pilots license and he tells us that di and da are the way you communicate dots and dashes over the radio.
So we go through the text picking out all the di's and da's and translate it using a wabun -> phonetic japanese dictionary (as can be found on all good wiki's) and get the word moonrise.
The website have full solutions to all of them. They're pretty odd, some of them you'll need to google stuff, others are pretty much self contained. I doubt anyone will have to drive to do them now, not with the answers right there. We had a team of 8 or so working on them all day and didn't get all of them.
