Hey, about a month ago my starcraft started lagging roughly every 10-20 minutes. When it lags it shows the names of everyone in the game on the drop screen, it lasts about 5-10 seconds each time. Very rarely it lasts the entire 45 seconds and I drop.

I've tried a bunch of stuff to fix it but im open to any ideas you guys might have. Thanks.

Im on xp and I am using wireless. Router is a Dlink-1310 and the ports are forwarded.

Do you have anything running other than Starcraft?

Probably network issues, packets not arriving. Wireless is kinda unreliable :O

The weird thing is it only started happening about a month ago.

Did you change isp's or have you determined its not them? Something must have changed with your computer or network/isp settings.

I play over wireless almost 100% of the time and I rarely lag. Once out of every 30 games or so I might have an issue.

I always avoid wireless because I've never gotten it to work without a hitch when it comes to gaming etc (or for anything else for that matter). I have done some pretty interesting wiring jobs in the past to avoid wireless. Is it possible for you to avoid using wireless?

Yeah I've tried running straight to the modem using a cat5 cable, still the same thing. From what I can remember it all started happening after my modem lost connection one night. It regained connection after a few minutes and everything was fine after except for this.

But im still not 100% sure its my ISP and they are still refusing to send a repair technician claiming that everything checks out on their end. Thats why I want to figure out if maybe i missed something before i go and switch ISP's to a slower isp only to find out i have the same problem.

@h3r1n6 Normally I have MSN running and opera browser but I have tried running without anything turned on, including any antivirus or firewall

I should note that even when the drop screen is up, i can still recieve friends messages. So it seems like i only lose connection to the players in the game, not the battle.net server. This might just be caused by latency or something though.

If you tell them you just signed up for a new ISP they'll be more than happy to check it out in person I'm sure

I've told them im switching twice, they dont seem do care. I always thought if you said you were switching they would bend over backwards for you but i guess thats not the case.

Ah that sucks haha. We had optimum online through cablevision along with their cable and phone package... when we decided to switch to verizon fios, we called them after the switch to inform them we were leaving and they went apeshit about trying to keep us XD

..and then I would, ya know, check em'. (Aka SpoR)

I redid half the wiring after verizon came (my dad helped) so that we could place the router in the basement where my computer is. My dad helped me play games with the coaxial cable so I could make the trip from the computer to the router only a few feet.

Prior to that, I ran a cat 5e ethernet cable along the corner of the room (between floor and wall) three rooms away to where my computer was. I'm not sure if I understand what you are asking me though...

OP, whats your ISP ?! im on BELL sympatico. when wireless, its great for everything (download speeds 300-500, very fast browsing etc...) but for some reason its horrible for SC. i get recurrent 5 seconds lags every 2 minutes or so. im not sure if its because of the ISP or because my wireless setup is very distant from the router. its somewhat playable for fun games but its way too fuckin irritating for competitive gaming. thats why im forced to go wired (which i can't do too often because of household issues) which solves the problem.

basically, if you still lag when wired T_T change your ISP ....seriously. the only question is how much persuasive power you have over your parents. since my parents don't have any web issues, never in a million years would i be able to persuade them to switch ISP. so i have to go wired when i can...but for that, my dad needs to be away for a long time because i need to go upstairs and unplug the router//modem, and replug it downstairs..it drastically reduces the time i can devote to SC ^_^ which may or may not be a good thing.

If it is systematical lag, I highly doubt it is your ISP. most likely a software or configuration problem.
I'm taking whatever coverage I can get, because frankly, I'm busy working on this million dollar deal at my job. Early retirement is a good thing brotha man. - MessengerASL

Im open to it being a software problem, but how do I figure out what it is? I've uninstalled everything that i thought might be causing a problem and ive tried closing everything unessicary in process manager. I dunno how to pinpoint what it is

why would you say that a systematic lag is unlikely to be caused by the ISP? especially since he gets that sort of lag after having uninstalled every software//process.
