So I discovered this tool that some pros seem to use. The Mouse Bungee And I thought that's neat, but WTF 10 bucks?? So I decided to make my own bungee.
(Yeah, I realize my desk is dusty as hell.)
It's a pretty preliminary design but it was the first that I thought of. 2 zip ties clipped down to desk, paperclip at top to secure wire. I've been using it for a couple days and so far it feels nice.
Anyway, there's my first blog post.

oh sweet.
you use hamachi.
on topic: personally i'd rather buy a real one though. it's only $10 and taping things onto my desk isn't something i want to do atm
|
I would have just taped it what appears to be right under a window, the cord is long enough for that + slack anyways.
|
I just weight the cord and get the same effect.
|
hmm... it doesnt pull off the same feel...
like, friend: hey whats that?... me: its a mouse bungee... *silence friend: ... a mousebungee? me: yah... a mousebungee...

Well when you slapped down for your 30-80? dollar mouse 10 dollar moues budge so your cord doesn't become all frayed by your desk might be worth it. But i mean if you slapped down for your 5$ microsoft free with my dell mouse why bother

ie. If I have a really light mouse and a rather long mouse cord, when the cord hangs off the desk and I let go of the mouse, the weight of the cord pulls the mouse and messes up its position.
I've never had a mouse cord get frayed by a desk... makes me wonder what desk you use

Hahahah, I've had that conversation countless times. The worst of it was when I brought it to school when I was done with my project to ladder in class (cool teacher ;P). I had to explain it so many times... probably shouldn't have brought my Qck+ either >_>

Plastic holds form too well my cord wont get creases etc but the edge of my desk will fray it.

Big. Ass. Mousepad.
http://www.steelseries.com/int/products/surfaces/qck/information
It doubles as a placemat and really cuts down the dusting that needs to be done But be prepared to take a lot of shit when you ask for a new seat to ladder while the class works >=)

whats the point of this? will it feel better to the hand or something?

the bungee prevents the weight of your cord from being felt when you use your mouse. just try holding a foot of mousecord up with your other hand, and move the mouse. it'll feel a bit lighter and i guess it promotes consistency (i remember i saw a lot of these at a CS lan i went to)

It allows your forearm wrist and finger muscles to remain dainty because things that are heavy hurtt. lol I've weighted my mouse i like it solid

The weight of the cord... how many games did I lose because of this...

Hahaha, nice. I don't use a mouse bungee though. I just give the cord a bit of slack, and either tape it directly to my desk, or put it under something heavyish. As long as the cord has slack I'm good to go.
I'm sure in 5 years none of this will matter 'cause wireless will be awesome.

cool! the comments are pretty surprising though, i thought a lot more people would have problems with their mouse cord. i absolutely cannot stand any slight tug in any direction on my mouse while i'm playing because it just fucks me up sooooooooo badly. i have to resort to making intricate loops with the cord around and around until i get just the right balance of weight and slack.

Heheh, I love all kinds of mousepads. I've used Icemats, 3 different Razers, Qck and other steelseries, thundermats and a few others. I don't know why I use the Qck+ with SC so much. I used to use the "control" side of the x-act mat, but when I loaned it to my friend for a LAN I got used to the Qck+ and just haven't bothered to change.
I go through phases where I become obsessed about things... knives (still comes now and again), bushcraft, computer peripherals, hell, even boondoggling ^_^

I recently bought a new mouse and went back to wired and found myself rigging up a mouse bungee as well. I used an empty CD spindle, a binder clip and a rubber band. Just for good measure, I threw a bunch of pennies on it for added weight.

My first time on teamliquid.net so what's up guys. Mouse Bungee's are getting more popular these days, but reading from all the comments from Amazon, there's a lot of compatibility and weight issues with the commercial mouse Bungees out right now. So I thought I share what I'm using right now, just made it on a whim. If anyone got any ideas for the "tip" of the bungee for which I can attach and make it more flexible please share.
Hope the image links work. =D

This is mine. In case you can't tell from the incredibly informative picture, the mouse's wire goes under the desk and is taped to the back "plate" of the desk, with some loose, but not so much that it weighs on the mouse and pulls away from me, yet not so little that I can't pull the mouse toward myself. There's no resistance either way, it never tangles in anything, and it was free because I stole the duct tape from some construction guys. Perfect.
