So I discovered this tool that some pros seem to use.
The Mouse Bungee
And I thought that's neat, but WTF 10 bucks?? So I decided to make my own bungee.

(Yeah, I realize my desk is dusty as hell.)

It's a pretty preliminary design but it was the first that I thought of. 2 zip ties clipped down to desk, paperclip at top to secure wire. I've been using it for a couple days and so far it feels nice.

Anyway, there's my first blog post.

on topic: personally i'd rather buy a real one though. it's only $10 and taping things onto my desk isn't something i want to do atm

I would have just taped it what appears to be right under a window, the cord is long enough for that + slack anyways.

I just weight the cord and get the same effect.

I thought it was to have the proper slack amount on your cord and to prevent the cord weight from affecting your mouse placement.

ie. If I have a really light mouse and a rather long mouse cord, when the cord hangs off the desk and I let go of the mouse, the weight of the cord pulls the mouse and messes up its position.

I've never had a mouse cord get frayed by a desk... makes me wonder what desk you use

Hahahah, I've had that conversation countless times. The worst of it was when I brought it to school when I was done with my project to ladder in class (cool teacher ;P). I had to explain it so many times... probably shouldn't have brought my Qck+ either >_>

Actually has more to do with my cord being braided in fibers instead of coated with plastic. Plastic holds form too well my cord wont get creases etc but the edge of my desk will fray it.

It doubles as a placemat and really cuts down the dusting that needs to be done But be prepared to take a lot of shit when you ask for a new seat to ladder while the class works >=)

the bungee prevents the weight of your cord from being felt when you use your mouse. just try holding a foot of mousecord up with your other hand, and move the mouse. it'll feel a bit lighter and i guess it promotes consistency (i remember i saw a lot of these at a CS lan i went to)

well i own a G5 and its cord is not hard rubber like most mouse it's nylon braid and it totally gets frayed after 3+ yr of usage, also ppl who own g5 rarely need a bungee because of the adjustable weight feature that keeps the mouse from sliding off on its own (that and braided cord grabs onto the edges of a desk better, meaning its length will stay the amount u pulled out)
