Total Cost: $3,500
You TL'ers would be proud.
First game I loaded with all this raw potential just waiting to be released? Starcraft. =D (Will be getting Crysis later in the week, though )
The other thing that you guys will appreciate, I'm sure, is my keyboard. I actually purchased 2. 1 silver, 1 black. My new keyboard now looks like this one. I can't seem to find the thread telling which progamer used that keyboard, though. All I know is, it's awesome, and now I have one.

I was told that SLi can't use >1 monitor. I have a very nice 19" Samsung LCD from my last computer (probably the best part of that computer left) that I was planning on using to serve as my browsing monitor while I gamed in the main monitor. Was the person who told me that wrong?

Actually just recently they released drivers that support dual monitor sli. Although i find that set up 1 24 inch is enough
Check out the release notes for the unified drivers 180+ it's somewhere around there just released last December or so.

Your carbon footprint is now double most African countries.

Dude.. don't feel bad. The computer I upgraded from to this one started with an ATI 9700 (not a 9700 pro or deluxe or all-in-wonder or whatever the hell they used... just "9700"). One of my friends bought a computer in that time, and then bought a new computer, and gave me his 6800GT that I used for over a year in that machine.
This was a well-overdue, long-awaited upgrade for me

Nice rig, I'm waiting until I either go to college in august or a good game comes out to upgrade mine. I already have all the accessories I need though, lol.
Logitech G15 (The original blue LED) keyboard Logitech G5 mouse Steelseries S&S mousepad HP w2408h 24" Monitor Cooler Master Stacker 830 case (amazing)
That rig will destroy any game right now though, even at your 1920x1200. Great choices.

Hahaha, this blog makes me feel insecure about my puny comp . Well I only play SC anyway, so meh.

lmao that's the thing, this was my ugprade computer from a 1.4 ghz pentium 4, 128 mb ram, geforce 2 mx400

Id rather just buy a console :/

What a waste of money and power. You honestly don't feel bad about getting SLI which is completely useless and draining energy like it's nothing? I completely agree with Jibba on this one.
Besides, a quad6600 + 4gb ram + 4870 1gb card will probably last you as long as this setup will without the sickening decadence.

good grief my radeon x700 pro feels even more ancient because it is? usually upgrades should happen every 2-3 ish years you want to upgrade your gpu to skip 2 generations if you bought geforece 6000 then you waited till 9000 ish to upgrade for the worthwhile upgrade loops etc

GRRRR... ANGRY POST IS ANGRY.
Seriously, no. I don't. With these latest Nvidia drivers it seems like they're fixing the issues SLi has, so whatever.
I'm happy with my new computer and I don't think a penny was wasted. That's all that matters.

Oh well, if posting on tl.net and playing sc is the farthest you will push your comp...

Can you please tell me why you went over the top and chose a 12GB ram (do you use graphics or something? like 3dstudiomax Maya), 2x DVD RW? The 24'' monitor was a great choice also I believe the 2x Nvidia's wasnt needed but ye overall im pretty much jealous with your rig and I hope you are a rich guy because in 1-2 years this rig will probably get old.On a sidenote get rid of Vista and get XP , xp > vista imo actually wait, oh wait... win98 se > all windows kek!

Memory is probably the best thing to have most of in your computer, over your CPU, over your graphics card -- everything.
I chose to get 2x DVD RW because I'm lazy and I can copy directly from DVD to DVD without putting it all on to my hard drive. Also, on a $3,500 gaming rig, both of those came out to less than $100 combined, so I figured "who cares?".
Windows Vista is arguably the best operating system Microsoft has ever released. You heard it here first. Windows 7 is simply going to be a service pack with a bunch of the bloated-ness cut out of it (if there's one thing I don't like about vista, it's that it requires a lot of memory). Failing that, I couldn't make use of DirectX 10 features in XP.

And DVD drives these days cost like $20, so $100 for two? hahaha...
but yeah, it's a shame Crysis is boring as hell
