So I'm not an awkward guy by any means, nor do I have problems talking to females but when it comes to approaching girls I haven't met before during everyday life my rank is D. I have no problems initiating conversation if I have a reason to, or if I am in a situation where I am expected to (meet + greets, smoker events, etc); what I find difficult is approaching girls randomly in public. Anyways I realized that avoiding this aspect of meeting new girls means I lose out on like 80% of potential encounters (made-up statistic), so I decided that I would need to improve this skill at once. I then had the idea that I can analyze what I am lacking and how to improve it, similar to how I improve my starcraft game. Here are my findings:
As with starcraft, raw practice will help you improve, but going in with an idea of your strengths and weaknesses and focusing on improving one thing at once really helps. In this case I will focus on initiating contact with girls that I don't know.
I want to go in with a gameplan, but I don't want it to be planned out to the line. If I don't go in with one or two things to talk about, I may run out of things to say and that potentially leads to awkward silence - pretty much gg. If I overplan to the point where I have a speech BO, it doesn't allow me to adapt based on where it the conversation is going, and I could screw up the BO or forget something, especially since my rank is D. I pretty much want to have two or three general ideas floating around, and can tech switch at any time based on the flow of the conversation.
Scouting is important - it allows me to develop a gameplan based on available intel. Eg: @ the grocery store - browse the same items and ask for her opinions on a brand, @ the library studying - ask some questions on the subject of whatever textbook she has open.
In some cases, a hot girl will pass you on the street and there will be no time for scouting. In this situation you may choose to utilize a rush tactic - an established,often cheesy way to get and hold their attention quickly. Beware though, many girls are wary about this and can smell your cheese from a mile away. Girls practice against this strategy the most.

What you should do however is to not back down when you feel that you could naturally approach one and start talking due to it seems obvious that she shares some interest with you.

As a girl I find the idea of guys approaching any girl (including myself) with something entitled a 'game plan' kind of disturbing - especially if they're random girls.
P.S. gzealot - there are several girls on here, don't make generalisations.

Unless you're an exceptionally good looking guy and/or you're approaching an exceptionally fickle girl, don't expect results period.
You're going to creep them out, come off as a player/flirt type (which turns off girls save the fickle ones), simply annoy them, get the cold shoulder/no response/gain nothing, or any or all of the above put together.
You need a reason to start a conversation with somebody...it can be anything from asking the time to asking for a pen or something. Just going in straight up spitting game won't work.

And don't listen to those guys discouraging you to approach random girls, they have no idea what they are talking about. Making flirting a natural part of your personality makes life much more fun, and that includes talking to attractive girls wherever you meet them!

Edit: Hey, and about the scouting... Very important! Proper scouting is what will keep you from needing a speech BO. If you learn to pick up on every little thing she says or does, you will eventually be able to have a 2 hour long conversation about absolutely nothing, the both of you having loads of fun in the mean time.

The Game is a good place to start. The easiest way to start a conversation with someone is by asking their opinion on something. Once you're in you can continue the convo by doing things such as cold reads, but make sure to never over stay your welcome (ie. by giving a false time constraint) and if it goes good don't be afraid to ask for her number to continue talking some other time.

At first I laughed pretty good, but then you just overdid it from scouting etc. A joke is meant to be natural man, as soon as you try to hard to make it funny, you fail.
That btw is a good tip for approaching girls.

i am pretty shy when it comes to meeting people in public places. so the only thing that works for me is when i goto the bars i make sure i drink a few drinks before i talk to any girls. once i do that i think it helps alot. Then i start dancin like a fool cause i suck at dancing and some girl looks over and laughs (in a good way) then i go over and start talkin and every thing seems to work out.
If you want to totally avoid having to initiate a convo with a girl then you either gotta have alot of money and the bitches gotta know from their friends friend that you got some cheese. Or if you are really funny guy you can make your friends laugh and usually girl will see and perhaps want to start talkin to you. girls like funny guys un less they are extreamly hideous and that leads to the last thing which you don't have any control over you gotta have really good looks, if you do you don't even have to talk to girls they just come right up too ya ^^

Hello guys, here's a rep of me vs a girl I tried to play while at church.

I went for the standard 1 balls 2 hormones rush while containing her at her seat. I had some really good eye micro, but that apparently wasn't enough to win her =( she then sent morpher a mom which stared at me with greater vocal and eye micro, I had to retreat to my seat to relieve myself from such harrass.
The conflict went on for a while, but as you guys know it is really hard to go vs ♀, pro stats say ♀ > ♂ 95% on that map, no wonder, that shit's too imba! I mean, there's always a lot of critters blocking the way and also a bunch of narrow chokes. Besides, you don't want to go to the center of the map as it is literally a no man's land; imagine a sieged preacher shooting at you from the high ground you can't get to.
In the end, she got enough resources to launch a final father attack on me. I just couldn't do anything to stop it, I just don't know what to do when you can't deal with such an overpowered unit. Only times ive heard others have successfully (not stopped but) calmed the father attack down was with the perfect execution of the so common Lie BO, in which you do such a good "Fake Professional" (FP) BO and he falls for it.

Just say something that is relevant to you both that isn't "hey"
i.e. if you're at a bus stop just say "damn this bus is taking forever" which not only is something you both have in common (waiting for bus) but also pits you on the same "side" of the "conflict" (you both waiting vs the bus sucking by being late) From there it should be easy to make small talk (so, where do you live, what year of school are you in, etc)
If not, you can always just say "hey" and hope something comes up from there that you can turn into flirting.

I think Never's advice is what you should take to heart. Don't necessarily have a game plan, just be yourself and try to find something to talk about. The best way is to see if you have something in common with them.

Frustrating thing is if you try ANY kind of harass vs ♀, there's a chance you'll get rushed by cops.

Got her number and we got out on the same night to a bar.
It works!
They won't think you are a "player" because you are shy and vulnerable!
