I used to play really, really competitively, like top 3 in all brackets season 2/3. Also my guild was a top 30~ U.S. guild and had some really good showings on WWS scoreboard. I don't know how into it you were but it was cool for sure

I quit fairly recently. I proved to myself I could still play in season 5 and then just sorta stopped for good.

My guild was top 3 on my server in the past until we did a 'spring cleaning' (gkicking all guildies) and after GM(s) were too nice to practically everyone. As usual people take advantage of it and so there comes the need to spring clean the guild.

Quit my job for 2yrs just to play WoW and maximum hours online was 72hrs(3days) without sleep

I wasn't in the top 3 arena teams, but in the top % which rewards me with the title - Challenger.
(Though i prefer the title - Duelist!) It's hard to find people within my timezone to play arena with me, I'm from Singapore and on a North America server. And ever since i'm with Razer, i spent more time on work then WoW so... i have not got a chance to try Season 5 (Damn, still in s4 gears now!)

My old roommate was in the CSM guild, which was one of the top three or four in whatever server he played on. Seriously...that shit pissed me off. We'd all be ready go out and eat, and he'd be, "FUCK I NEED TO RAID WAIT 45MIN!"

I wanted to beat his ass.

Adding to that, i hope Steve join my server soon....

We are now on the same timezone and Steve has the skills!
(I can't tolerate playing with people who doesn't know what to do in arenas!)

Haha I used to be a WoW fanatic. Come to think of it, what got me off of WoW was getting really into Starcraft and Call of Duty 4 :p.

I used to be a hardcore PvPer during the good old original days of WoW. When BC came out I switched more to raiding. Arenas, Battlegrounds and Resilience all ruined PvP for me since I was born and raised on world PvP. They just can't recreate the rush of world encounters on a stage, IMO. I ended up liking raiding though, my guild was ranked 2nd or 3rd Horde side most of the time and I was the rogue class leader before I quit. Before the new talent patch that basically nerfed everything we got 2 bosses into Sunwell, which I was always proud of considering we were very casual (no DKP, no harsh rules, ect.)

I was also first in line for Warglaives (I play a rogue and always have/always will) but missed the night the first and only one dropped doh!

Once WotLK came out I stopped playing entirely for a month or two. I'm a notoriously bad leveler (and extremely lazy overall!) and going from being endgame geared back to the leveling rat race again kinda ruined my motivation to play.

I recently started playing again though, mostly cause I missed all the friends I made. Everyone's 80 now so I can take my time leveling, doing whatever without getting ganked over and over. At least my T6 will last til level 80 for the most part.

What server do you play on? I've kind of stopped playing recently but I pretty much played for 4 years before that. Oh when I think of the thousands of hours I've wasted on this game..

BTW PH if you mean Colonial Space Marines then I play(ed) on your roommate's server, haha.

Honestly,

I really believe that is it up to that individual.

You can get yourself sucked into the game if you're a loner or don't mix around with friends often.
For me, i think it's normal rather then addictive. I don't mix with friends alot...its either work or home. I'm bored with the clubs/pubs/discos in Singapore.. hate heavy weekend crowds.. hate driving on the road with traffic jams.. hate paying for expensive alcohol(I really miss the 1 euros beer in Barcelona) probably just hate stupid noobs(humans?) =X

But in World of Warcraft, you get to choose the players whom you want to mix with and you feel invincible killing other enemy players with your wow-friends. And we talk about pc gaming peripherals, new games and whatever we feel like chatting about. I could never find a person in a disco that loves pc gaming like i do. It marks down to a person's hobby/likes & dislikes too i think.

No offense to what i have mentioned.. but do comment if you have your own views.

Awesome

I'm a pvper too. I was super well versed when TBC came until WOTLK ruin my wow-life.
Work has caused me to become a wow noob again.. there are so much contents in WOTLK that i have to read on.. and the talents change.. the nerfs... omfg, BLIZZARD I HATE YOU!

(But i LOVE Blizzard at the same time, it's a love and hate affair)

And now they removed resilience again.. I'm at 520 resi and my gears(s4) are obviously usless for pvp now. Missed the good old days of world pvp.

Eh, hard to hook you up on your server as i can't transfer my toon. My friends are all on my server and including real life friends. ^^ But if you do drop by my server, say HI to me! :D

Tried Guildwars but fall in love with WoW more then GW...

When Warhammer was launched, i got it to try the game features and mechanisms.. finished the one month free play and i didn't activate the account till now.

Unlike my WoW account, it's linked to the credit card and it auto renews the subscription every six months! I'm still loving it though i play alot lesser due to work.

There is certainly a line past which you can class it as addiction. For the most part though, if you're raiding, you've made a commitment to doing this instance for three or four hours. You've already told 9 or 24 other people that you'll do it, and presumably they are your friends, so in that aspect you can't just run out on on them.

I ran a raiding guild from Vanilla through to the end of BC before retiring. I retired simply because those sorts of situations cropped up too often, and I felt it was affecting my RL friendships. I still play casually, mostly just to keep in touch with my game friends. I really enjoyed levelling in Wrath, and raiding is a lot of fun, but I'm not really interested in running the same raids over and over again.

I play Alliance on Greymane if anyone is on that server.

I've been playing on and off since may 2005, was never really that hardcore but I found a nice guild and while the guildname has changed once or twice I've stuck with the same people for about 3 years now. I really only play for fun but I do enjoy casual raiding (although I might not be that casual, no idea these days).

I think I'd have quit ages ago but I just like the community I ended up in, and I still have lots of fun so I doubt I'll quit anytime soon =)

(I've been trying to get some of them converted to watching starcraft progaming, but alas, no such luck as of yet).

Edit: Guess I can add this: I play horde on Dragonblight-EU, my main actually shares the same name as my username, lol.

Yeah, WoW cause serious damage to relationships. Most of my friends in WoW are singles. =X

And most of us, would prefer getting a partner that games too.. preferably wowers too, haha!

(My alliance toon is on oceanic server, frostmourne!)

I met my girlfriend through WoW, which was also why I didn't mind spending a lot of time on the game. The downside is that she played a holy priest, me a holy paladin, so we couldn't do much in game together, as you generally only need a single healer. Raids aren't really a good way to spend time with someone. Stupid attention-paying-requirement.

It is always nice to meet nice guild members (trustable players) The guild which i'm running,
my guildies have been with me for more then 3years too. And because of them, i turned down
many offers from other top raiding guilds for me to join them.Staying strictly on PvP so i could be with my guild friends. Let's just say that, we play competitively on arenas but on casual world pvp. PvE content was just totally out for us due to timezone differences.

(It's hard to get RPG players to convert to RTS i think.. I'm not sure if SC2 will get me hooked so badly that i won't return to WoW) Hehe

Well, you can respec to ret or prot!

I own different characters so it's no issue switching classes as and when i need to. ^^

Eh, yes Raids are a pain in the ass. Especially when players go for smoking breaks one by one and we waste time waiting for them to return. Toilet breaks, smoking breaks, telephone calls etc* I just hate those.. -_____-"

The good old days when kids aren't into WoW because leveling from 1 to 60 is a pain in the ass process. And gold isn't easy to make. Oh, not forgetting that we do not have add-ons in the past.

WoW was so much harder previously. Now it seems like it's changing it's game-play.
We have lots of kids, gold-beggers, chuck noris fans... and silly barrens chat.

I miss the pre-bc WoW.

I can respec ret/prot, but I'm nowhere near as good as I am at holy, and she was the same way. We both really didn't enjoy doing something that we're not good at. Still used to do it on occasion though.

Raiding I absolutely love. If your raiders have time to think about the bathroom, smoking etc etc then you're not pulling fast enough. I used to have specificed break times throughout the night, and everyone knew when they were, so they tried to scedule stuff in that time, rather than on my time.

If worst comes to worst though, you really don't need a full complement of raiders to clear the trash, or indeed most of the bosses. So if someone went afk, we just continued on.

I agree with you...

But i don't even have enough turn ups.. the timezone difference is killing our fun.
USA is minus 16 hours from Singapore.. I have to wake up at 6am to be able to hold raids for my guild.. the pain i am going through.. and now that i am working, i can't do that anymore.

Eh, yes Raids are a pain in the ass. Especially when players go for smoking breaks one by one and we waste time waiting for them to return. Toilet breaks, smoking breaks, telephone calls etc* I just hate those.. -_____-"

Well, yes I do play a warlock, name was inspired by the fact that back at lvl 60 my old main (firemage, on the alliance side of dragonblight) always died because the silly fear effect never broke. ^^

Ironic that soon after I made the char back in vanlilla they nerfed fear effects (again), heh, good fun. Still, I liked playing the class and oh how I still do, the most fun caster to play by far. (although I hated the fact that you sort of had to go SL/SL for PVP in TBC, which killed all the fun). I really don't enjoy leveling or grinding so yeah I've stuck with this being my only max lvl character through all of TBC and it'll probably remain so through all of WOTLK and beyond. ^^

Haha! I hate Warlocks too! Hate it when they drain my mana or hp! Especially in arenas! xD
And the stupid fel pet which kept biting me! Haha!!!

Mages... hmmm, i like blinking out of movement impairment effects, i like polymorph pig/turtle..
and not forgetting "free arcane taxi" (portals) Till date the characters i leveled: Priest 78, Paladin 70, Mage 70, Rogue 61, DK 58, Warlock, 22, Druid 20, Warrior 15, Hunter 12... Lol!

Simple way to level is to just park for rested xp then level.

I play on garithos and kirin tor. the enjoyable thing about rp servers is that everyone is into it, unfortunately sometimes too into it. I've at least 500 days /played, and been playing off and on since release. if you're reading this, never start playing wow

Blooming/Tulips on Garithos
Blossoms on Kirin Tor with a bunch of alts if anyone plays there, feel free to message.

both are alliance side.

edit: not sure if there's many old school wow players around, but when avatar on warsong and his guild were going to transfer to another server, I was one of the founders of the guild where his guildies ditched him and all xferred to a different server than him. so I guess pre BC we were top 15 guilds in clearing naxx and that was at my peak of hardcore wow playing. did a lot of arena in TBC too.

I haven't had any real desire to play WoW in years but I used to play seriously, until BT. We were kinda good. :>

I'm extremely glad I quit though.

I played a pally from a few months after launch until a few weeks after Sunwell came out. I was on Kil'Jaeden for a bit, then Korgath for the rest of the time.

When WSG came out, when BC came out, and when arenas started were probably the most fun I've ever had playing any video game. I lost interest in PvP because I figured out I'd never be able to make a PvP video with my computer, and at a high level luck and group make-up counted for too much. I lost interest in PvE because I joined the guild that I perceived as being the best in the US, and then I lost motivation and never made really good friends with any guildies. It was also just a shitty time in my life for unrelated reasons.

I thought about getting back into it for WoTLK, but I don't have much time any more and there's so much logistical work in figuring out which classes got which knew talents and skills, and which spec is the best, and which gear is the best for each spec and where it comes from. Blarg.

When WoW was pre expansions I was in the top horde guild on the server deathwing who was pretty much feared for its pvp and darn good at pve as well. Then I took a break right before naxx/AQ then just now came back seriously a month ago. I play on the blackrock server (trans my shaman from deathwing because some friends i know rolled there) and now im in a guild that is pretty open and fun and laid back (no hard core raid times etc) so im just lvling bit by bit since I cannot put too much time in as grad school is demanding. But its fun and I enjoy the new zones (currently lvl 75).

DnT? Or the other amazing guild that totally owned DnT in every instance of PvP ever and had way smarter/handsomer players?

I'm not exactly sure what guild you're referring to. I didn't often play 5v5, so I have no idea who beat whom.

I was on the same BG as the old DnT and they were a joke really. I can honestly say I've been farming Schmitty in since wayyyyy before he got his KT mace pre-bc. DnT's 5s/3s teams were always trash and carried by pve gear.

Anyways, I played on vengeance, which was probably the 2nd most competitve BG especialy during season 2, right behind bg9.

My guild was also pretty advanced. From the origin pre-bc to void throughout TBC and now. We were always top 40 US and had a lot of very impressive times on WWS scoreboard.

If you were talking about the other guild on Korgath you mean "drama"

They were a little better in pvp with footwerk and tigerlady,(although the person pvping on those characters isn't the same person raiding on them.)and serennia is there now. I have some pretty funny screenshots of 3-0ing serenn in 2v2 during late season 4. He was a really solid warrior, although I think I possibly met a better one. During what time were you active on this BG? I was very active all s2-s4.

I fell for a freaking WOTLK 10 day trial so now I'm playing it again (quit a one month or so after TBC was released, didn't even hit 70) Now I'm a 80 DK raiding like 1-2 times a week (which is like all you need now really, WoW has gotten so easy it's ridiculous) I played it pretty hardcore up to a week or so after I hit 80 to get all the gear available through emblems/HC drops/rep rewards but now I'm taking it pretty casual.

To be honest WOTLK is ridiculously easy and there's really no challenge to it anymore Already starting to find it boring :/

I'm not talking about arena either (although we had a bunch of top arena players, and people who left to play on Tich.) I'm talking about the most badass, curb stomping, exploiting guild in the world that trashed DnT's AB teams in lvl 52 blues, and won most of the world spawns against those three other guilds. :D

I think I've been in DnT AB groups that have lost to pick-ups. I'd say it's important to appreciate how little most of the people in those groups cared for PvP. For them, it was just another thing to farm, and they usually did so grudgingly because they'd have preferred to PvE or felt that the PvP gear shouldn't compete with their PvE gear(this is me being generous and assuming the group consisted of raiders on their mains). Many even felt this attitude towards having to play just a few games a week in 5's to bank some arena points. I don't think anyone in DnT would dispute the charge that most members sucked at PvP simply because it wasn't a priority for most members, nor for the guild.

For the time that I was around, no one cared about world spawns, although we still killed them pretty regularly. It must have been different for the first few weeks after BC.

Yeah, OR was definitely a PvP guild that enjoyed PvE with eachother (which is why it went down so quickly in BT, core members leaving and people stopped caring + no fucking hunters.) Still, this was after our ban and we decided to reroll on Korgath (during the pre-TBC honor grind). We were fresh 60s in greens and blues, and Schmitty could 1 shot us with his Deathbringer, but we still won most of the games. To be fair, they weren't the only Naxx guild we would run over. There was only one guild on the BG that knew what they were doing and could consistently kick our ass, but I totally forgot who they were.

I don't know about the world spawns. Obviously we didn't have the DPS to do much until after we got into the Kara stuff, but I remember winning them pretty regularly from Magtheridon even to the middle of BT, and we definitely pulled a few out while getting attacked by the [A] guilds. I think we actually got along pretty well with the 3 alliance guilds, at least moreso than with GC.

The trash just killed it for me. I could live with the idiots in SSC fucking up Leotheras and even though Kael Thas was kinda fun, it just got so mindless after what we'd been through. Probably would've helped to have been my Naxx mage instead of a rogue, since you don't have to pay as much attention. I wanted to kill myself the few times I helped in Hyjal.

Do you remember what server? There weren't really that many pve-progressed servers on this BG. Korgath had dnt, dread, drama, Mugthol had Damage networks and TK but I doubt either of them were who you were referring to. Maybe a chromag or hakkar guild? i dunno ahha

Midian and I play on Scilla too. We made a 2v2 and 3v3 team for fun but definitely not specced for pvp (or geared) whatsoever. I did arena season 1, got my drake and then quit for awhile. Had this char since Nov 2004.

And yes, I miss the game pre and expansion. 40 man MC raids, trying to kill Vael in BWL before she despawned after an hour... My guild was best horde side on Bloodscalp for a long time (guild name is DPS), lots of server first. First High Warlord was from my guild too. We used to get together for BBQ's each summer - people flew into NJ from all over the place. Always nice to meet guildies. The whole guild moved to Scilla and we're a bit more casual now - but the game got so easy that I think they still raid and such. Me, I'm there for the acheivements. ^^

Do you remember what server? There weren't really that many pve-progressed servers on this BG. Korgath had dnt, dread, drama, Mugthol had Damage networks and TK but I doubt either of them were who you were referring to. Maybe a chromag or hakkar guild? i dunno ahha

Actually, it was DN. The rest of the guilds in Naxx gear were terrible.

The guild i'm in right now isn't too active because we find the raid content right now pretty easy. We're trying for sarth 3 drake next lockout, or maybe monday o.o.

Anyway, here's my armory

Ahaha we thought DN was terrible but they were decent compared to the otehr naxx guilds i guess. They always seeemed to be a good month behind us on content though ;x

Well any team with good teamwork should've beaten us. I can't recall for sure, but I'm about 80% sure my rogue was wearing Triprunner Dungarees then. Probably using a Thrash blade until I could get HWL.

We didn't really know any of them. There's different social circles among the top guilds. o.o

EDIT: BTW, patch5 was totally worth it. You know you've made it big time when people tell you you should go to jail for hacking.

Played warlock from Open Beta up until post-Ahn'Qiraj. Stopped because my guild disbanded.

Took a break until May of 2008, rolled an undead rogue with a buddy.

I play on The Forgotten Coast (N.America PvP Server) never tried on RP before.. because i always thought RP servers has crazy people (too into it). Started WoW since 2005 pre-bc and never got sick of it. It just got better.

And, i'm Horde...

Speaking about old school.. i never even raid MC before. Was all into PvP..
Guess killing people are fun to me.. haha! Oh yah, and arenas!

On March 06 2009 01:48 lovelyrose wrote:

It's sad to hear something like this coming out from a fellow wower.

To make a PvP video, try using xFire.
And i don't understand why you would need a group for PvP? You can always do world pvp, battlegrounds or just run into an ally town and start whacking every shit.
You didn't mention about your level and i can't judge why you need a group. But well, i never do pvp if i'm not at max level or; if i'm not geared in pvp gears. There are always disadvantages in WoW if you're un-level and un-geared, same for all MMOGS. Don't be anxious about doing PvP when you know you can't win due to other factors.

As for your PvE guild, not sure why you would want to join the best. I normally choose the guild base on the time i'm able to give them. For good guilds, they play alot and everyday you have to be on the game. You probably lost motivation because you seldom log on to mingle with the guildies nor run any dungeons with them? =|

Knowing the stats and specs well is essential to play the game well. But if you are not playing competitively, honestly.. it doesn't matter as long as you have fun.

Blarg.

I like fun and laid back guilds. =)

But if i'm playing on a competitive level, i would prefer guilds with extreme commitment.

I'm similar to you now.. playing bit by bit as my work is crazy.. but i'm still loving the game.

But its fun and I enjoy the new zones (currently lvl 75).

DnT? Or the other amazing guild that totally owned DnT in every instance of PvP ever and had way smarter/handsomer players?

lol :>

I should mention that my perception of quality is very heavily influenced by e-fame. :D

I'm not exactly sure what guild you're referring to. I didn't often play 5v5, so I have no idea who beat whom.

To be honest WOTLK is ridiculously easy and there's really no challenge to it anymore Already starting to find it boring :/

My friend that plays a lot and raids and stuff let me roll a character on his account just to see if I liked it. So like if there was a night where he had a lot of studying to do and I didn't I would just play wow on his comp. Got my character up to lvl 25 in 1-2 hour spurts randomly.

We figured if we send emails to somebody at blizzard and explain the situation to them, they will probably allow me to take over control of the character on my account, since my friend basically advertised the game to me, and now I am going to buy it.

Edit: Anybody in the know think that will work out...or will they just ignore me?

They'll either ignore you or ban your friends account for sharing :o

If you want the character, you need to make a new account with the same billing info as your friends and use the character transfer page to transfer to that account. It will cost $25. Just start a new character lvl 25 isn't a big deal

I got a Mage & Priest.

I still play semi-frequently (handful of hours a week, moderately competitive), exclusively for Arena with some friends. Played very competitive in the early seasons (1 & 2 -- top 5 teams) then I realized that game had no right to be a competitive game since it's a constantly changing platform. However, the game is still pretty fun when you're playing it casually with friends.

What ruined the game for me initially was hardcore raiding. You get all serious about it and strapped down, start to feel obligated to attend every raid once you become a key member. Terrible feeling especially if you have any real life responsibilities. I remember pre-BC where we were a cutting edge guild (top 50). It was really stupid to actually change my actual real life schedule around to meet raiding times. Fortunately, I got out of that and the game became much better and more fun after I went casual.

I'm not so sure, I feel there really was no challenge even in Pre-BC times, People often confuse "challenge" with "time worthlessly spent". Rank 14 grind was a really stupid stupid stupid grind, I did it up to Rank 13 (I look back and think what the hell was wrong with me then). 3 month grind 24/7 play time, it was literally very unhealthy.

I think the game is far better now as a casual friendly game then the painful, useless grind-fest it used to be. Spending a greater amount of time doing useless things (many rank 14 players were horrible players; far more hardcore raiders were even worse players) doesn't make it more of a challenge in my opinion.

I played WoW for a year, interestingly enough that was the same year as what my friends and I call "the worst year of my life". PvP was fun in the originial, then battlegrounds came and those were just another form of raiding, the whole game is just grinding and farming, quite dull if you think about it.
Im pretty good at whistling with my hands, especially when Im holding a whistle.
