*Facepalms* No matter how hard I try I always forget about it. There will be - the prizes are just lying round in my apartment gathering dust. I'll try to pick some winners asap and send out the prizes around the March 10th mark (when I get paid to be able to afford the shipping.)

In most of the PL/WL matches I've watched, most players on the "benches" or "sidelines" seem pretty sedate. In your experiences, which teams/players seem to be the craziest or most energetic while sitting over there on the sidelines?

I love you for this question. Sometimes it tends to vary depending upon which event it is. However, recently the team which is the most animated at times happens to be a surprising one.
CJ players might seem all -__- CJ face. However, I've seen Xellos trying to stick small keychains down other players' shirts, Savior and GGplay (now Woongjin) grooming Darkelf's hair and Iris giving Movie (and anyone else he can get his hands on.) crushing bear hugs. Also with the addition of Effort I've now also seen a CJ player in tears and the rather heart-warming level of support he recieved from the older players such as Savior and Much. Much himself sometimes sits on the speakers during breaks swinging his legs.
It's not particularly 'crazy' - however, We Made Fox have taken over MBC Heroes crown as the 'Team which demolishes their food fastest.' Those guys rip through the Fox logo-ed snacks and candies before game one is even over.
PL and WL do seem a bit more sedate in general this season due to the down-turn in extravagant ceremonies (which is a shame.) However, there are still characters who chat and mess about from the various teams (Chalrenge, By.Baby, Rock, Midas, Iloveoov etc.)

It always seems like Forgg and Jaedong spend the entire time they aren't playing avoiding talking to their other teamates and eachother.

At first I believed OZ was a really serious and somewhat anti-social team in comparison to some of the others (like OGN sparkyz or MBC Heroes.) However, this is just their event behaviour. They're a very focused team at WL/PL and it's easy to mistake the lack of chatting/overt happiness during events as a lack of emotion.
However, I've shot Backho (funny, cheerful and loves his small, but loyal fan group.) ForGG (Extremely polite, speaks some English and easy to work with.) and Jaedong (Also very polite and professional.) Lomo is possibly the shyest member outside of events (he gets flustered easily at photo shoots.)
Their fan meetings are interesting - they generally mingle with the fans in small groups (or in JD's case a big group.) I've seen the assistant coach playing tag with fans and they're considered to run some of the most fun fan meets by Korean fans (according to my sources.) JD seems to be one of the most out-going members with the Korean fans and if you've seen their cross-dressing/tektonic video then it's not hard to gather from that; that OZ really does care about their fans and strives to socialise with them often through fan club events and normal WL/PL.

TY for answering my previous question- maybe they don't feed WeMade that much in the team house...
Recently, a lot of people berated KTF's coaches for sending out Flash when KTF was down 3-0 or 3-1, thinking that this increased workload nearly singlehandedly led to his elimination from both StarLeagues. However, a progamer already usually practices for many hours a day. So, again, based on what you've seen in real life, do you think that Flash's WL workload caused his elimination from the MSL and OSL?

Hahaha - as much as Youngho twitches and seems a tad eccentric he actually appears a lot more confident to me at events. He's talking more often with the other members of the team, he's assured with his fans and the addition of Chansoo to the team seems to have helped him strengthen his friendships.
As for Khan - it was a strange thing really. I think the fact that I became a Khan fan purely by chance (the sign for Stork on the spur of the moment.) contributed to the down turn in my massive commitment to them as a team. I was elated when they won the PL finals, but for me that marked a turning point where I decided to branch out and stop narrowing my focus to a single team. It was then that I noticed the massive diversity of players, personalities, styles and attitudes that make up the SC community in Seoul.
I was originally an OGN fan (from seeing KOR Real Story.) so going back to OGN felt like returning to my roots so to speak. I was also so impressed by the changes in T1 that it was hard not to become a fan of their revitalised image and the fact that they're just so much fun to photograph.
Blame Backho, ForGG and Jaedong for the Hwaseung thing - I really adjusted my ideas about JD after meeting him for the first time properly.

It varies massively. There is some truth in the idea of girls who attend solely because they enjoy the looks of some of the players (Bisu is a prime example as is Hwasin.) However, I know many, many more girls who spend the fan meetings asking technical questions (My friend Hyejin from the T1 fans goes to Thezerg/Yeongchul's fan meets with me regularly and she's always asking him about his recent games/plans for the future.) There are also many girls who discuss the matches online via Daum Cafes and lots of the Cyworld comments for the gamers' homepages are asking about their plays. It really is an individual element of being an esports fan, but I'd say the vast majority of female SC fans are pretty knowledgable about both the games and the players themselves - they're also very devoted and in many cases welcoming.

do you know or have taken original pics of the booth girls? i'd like to see more esport-girls plzzzz. and more savior. stop being shady i know you got some pics around ur computer somewhere.

That depends upon what kind of experience you're looking for:
If you want to see a lot of players interacting in one space and you'd like the chance to meet them afterwards for photos/autographs etc in a more casual setting: PL/WL.
If you want to see some often intense one-on-one plays in a more serious setting: OSL/MSL.
If you want to sit in the dark in a mall in the middle of nowhere: LOOX.
If you want to see the most amount of esports fans you will ever see in one space, to witness teams/individual players really battling it out and to possibly see Wondergirls or Girls Generation: PL/OSL/MSL Finals.
For me personally - nothing beats a final. The atmosphere is so unique, the venues are always different and everyone seems to be upon high alert in terms of energy and enthusiasm.

My laptop's power supply died earlier this month so I had to get it reformated - I will probably bow to the whims of the forum and take more booth girl photos when the chance arises. Currently I don't attend OSL though (the only event with boothgirls related to SC.) because there is nothing except booth shots to do there and I need at least one night a week off ;_;

Recently the ratio is about the same TBH - some teams have more female fans (OZ/Sparkyz/eSTRO.) but there are a lot of guys sometimes including military and older people. The age range varies wildly from kids to seniors (although not too often.) The camera men do tend to favour filming couples and girls holding signs though.

1) Hows the private lives of the progamers? Ask Rekrul.
2) How much time do they get off? That varies depending upon team. I know as a general rule A-team players get a significant amount more time off than B-teamers.
3) How do they interact with the outside world? That again depends upon the individual.
4) Can they take breaks anytime they want as long as they put up results? No - as far as I'm aware all of them are set into a proper schedule and have set breaks.
5) Does stork and fbh rly hav gfs? are they hot? pics? Yes (I've seen both.) don't ask me, Check their Cyworlds.
6) How bout savior? bisu? july lol? Don't know about Savior or Bisu, but I've been told July has a girlfriend.
7) Hows july doing? He's jolly as usual.
8) Whats a good new korean movie? I haven't seen it yet, but Handphone looks interesting.
9) Where do koreans come from? Outer Space?
10) Do you have a bf? Yes.
11) How does savior practice? He can't. His power is now so legendary he just has to look at computers and they explode.
12) Do any of the team members ever practice with others outside of their team? Yes, it's very common.
13) How many questions are you willing to answer? Too many.
14) When is your break time over? God knows.
15) Where do you work? In a room.
16) Can i have ur number? Do you fancy paying for a call to Korea?
17) Are you freal? Define 'freal.'
18) Do you think savior will win the 09 msl? I believe (sometimes.)
19) Will he win the next blizzcon? Possibly.
20) Do you think the newer players (JD, flash, fbh, etc) attend blizzcon? I can kidnap them for us?
21) Why didn't they attend last time? Because I didn't kidnap them?

My students are 3-6 years old - so it's way more basic than that. I love teaching kindey though. It requires a lot of energy and some dancing/singing/general madness. However, it's really rewarding seeing kids taking their first steps in English.

I once pissed off a load of We Made fangirls by sitting in their midst with a sign (written in korean) declaring how AWESOME Backho is and how I'd like him to decimate their team. I've not really seen any fan rage tbh - there's subtle bitching, but mainly it's reactions in the opposite direction (like the swarming of Jaedong.)

I like him for the same reason I used to like FBH - his showmanship - he's always provided entertaining ceremonies and he's got this great up-beat personality at live events that is a joy to photograph. He's also lovely in person and is very kind to his fans. Gaming wise - I love the fact that you never know WTF he's going to do next. It makes for interesting viewing because he polarises the community between those who love him and those who loathe him - I like gamers who can provoke such strong reactions.

I'm interested into getting into photography - mostly bands at this point. I don't want to get a shitty little digicam from Best Buy, but I don't have a grand to drop on something amazing. First off I recommend talking to Abydos1 and Gezus (sp!) - they know their stuff much better than myself. I personally wouldn't recommend taking the Nikon route because I've found even my D40X using the Sigma EX 70-200mm lens (about $1600 worth of kit in total.) doesn't cope well with the low-lighting conditions of OGN/MBC let alone anything interior such as gigs. (It actually copes quite well with exterior concerts though.) If you did decide to go with Nikon then check out the Nikonians forum - it's got loads of reviews and advice from experienced users.
I think Canon is the way to go if you want less noise and better handling in those kinds of situations. You might have to save up a couple of hundred more for a package with body/kit lens and then consider investing in a more substantial lens in the future - but that depends upon how seriously you're interesting in taking your photographic work.
I'd also recommend checking out Amazon's used section because they have a lot of good savings on the lower end DSLR cameras in their refurbished sections. I've also heard recently people are turning to Korean site likes Gmarket (which has an english version.) because of the good exchange rate and wide availability of DSLRs/Lens/accessories here in Korea.
My best advice is research online - decide exactly what you want out of your camera and then focus upon models that emphasis 'low lighting' 'noise compensation' 'image stabilisation' etc.
Oh and if you do choose the 'point and shoot' route - don't, whatever you do go with Samsung models. The wait time on my digicam from them is frighteningly big and the photos are bollocks.
|
Thanks for the advice. I'm just going to start out as a hobbyist, but I'm going to be around music and performances my entire life (Music and Sound Recording) so I figure I might be able to do something with this, no clue. I just hate when I show up to shows and all I have is some dinky little digital camera that is slow as shit and I miss all the good shots.

I was there photographing it. The issue was more with the venue than anything else - plus the freezing weather didn't help turn out either. It was in a University building and was completely packed out (with long lines to get inside.) I personally thought the venue was a bit lame - it was too small (like the Incruit OSL venue was.) and as it was more of a lecture theatre style place the lighting sucked aside from the stage.
The best venues I've been to so far were the EVER OSL finals in Seoul - that venue (I forget the name now.) was amazing - HUGE, perfect for such a massive stage and well lit. Also as a photographer it was well laid out because we could get very close to the action.
Also Kwang-ah Li beach for the PL finals between Khan and OGN Sparkeyz - it was roasting hot (thank god for the cooler in the press tent.) but working on the beach was a brilliant experience nonetheless. I worked for almost 18 hours straight that day (with a dinner with all the Kespa people, Coach Kim of Khan and lots of other journalists etc.) and came away with bruises and a cut arm, but it was so fun to work somewhere so different to the usual studios. Seeing OGN and Khan rolling up beach side in boats is something I'll never forget - along with being in the centre of the press line watching Khan win with a wall of thousands of fans behind me.
Fingers crossed for decent venues this season!

Nothing much - it doesn't really seem to matter due to their team affiliations. It's nice to see the attitudes of some old clan mates/or just gamers who we know are friends like UpMagic and Leta - before the games you can often see them smiling and laughing as they chat to each other.
