This is about the t.v. show Lost. Spoilers are up to the end of the last season. There's nothing about the new season.
So I've been trying to make sense of this whole 'we have to lie' thing. Six of the survivors make it off the island, and instead of telling society about their friends that were left behind, they tell everyone that they're dead. They're long gone. Don't even bother looking because you won't find anymore survivors. WHAT?! Then they go on with their lives. Kate has her trial, Hurley goes into a mental institution, Sayid works for Ben, Sun does whatever, for YEARS. They completely abandon their fellow survivors and don't even think twice about it.
Imagine being on a desserted island with someone and they build a raft and get to society. Instead of sending help to rescue you, they tell everybody you're dead and there is no point in looking for you.
The reason they give for doing this is to "protect them." Presumably protect them from Charles Widmore. If they really wanted to protect them, they would go to the press and explain how Charles Widmore is an accessory to murder. Try to get rescue teams in the area instead of keeping it nice and private for Charles Widmore to pull the same thing again. In fact, by lying, the only people they are decieving is the greater public. Charles Widmore knows the dummy plane he put in the ocean isn't really 815. He knows the island is still out there. He's not going to stop looking, only good, honest rescue workers are going to stop looking.
And another thing, if they are going to stage a "lie" like this, where Desmond and the chopper piot go onto Penny's boat, why did they not leave Claire's baby on Penny's boat as well? Instead of try to pull a double lie that he is Kate's son. Nobody buys that. Kate was 100 lbs when arrested, everybody would know if she was six months pregnant.
The only answer people give me is "they will explain it this season!" Oh please, they never explain anything on this show. What's the smoke monster? Who are The Others? What was the Dharma initiative? Why is there a crazy French lady on the island? What are the numbers and what point do they serve? Instead they just introduce more plot turns. Omg now there is a freighter, now there is time travel, now there are even more people that want to kill you for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
Probably the reason why the season premeire had 25% fewer viewers than last season. I bet they start dropping below 10million viewers a night soon.

Yeah...don't question it.

Yeah I agree, I got lost on Lost too. Just like Heroes, they warp back and forth in time and only new questions arise but nothing gets addressed with certainty. So, no surprise that ratings dropped and will continue to drop.

It could have been the timing, wasn't it on a Thursday last season? I will continue to watch this show, just because I'm curious.
edit: How much did nicole richie weigh when she was pregnant?

I started hating lost for this reason during season 2 already. Only new questions and no answers :/

gotta start explaining some shit

everybody gets lost! that's the joke! HAHAHA

I think it's safe to say that even if they have proof that Widmore tried to have them killed and wants to kill the people on the island to control it, he has enough friends in high places that nothing would happen to him and they would just find themselves in more danger.
With regards to the rest of your questions, the people on the island can time travel now, so it's reasonable to expect that once they get that whole thing under control we're going to find out the answers to your questions about the history of the island from their point of view.

Yeah, the public usually does believe stories about smoke monsters, mysterious organizations with even more mysterious intentions, murderous tribes of magical island people and the teleporting island they live on. Widmore would probably just kill them if they went off spouting about all this shit, because Widmore is the big baddie of the Lost universe (so far, at least). What kind of a show would topple him with bureaucracy? Suspend some disbelief, man.
Most of the mysteries on Lost have been explained to some extent, but you have to really pay attention and watch every episode to get it. It's not the kind of show that simply monologues every question away and that's that -- layers are slowly pulled back to reveal something new each time. It's true, they don't always get it right, but they are usually pretty on the ball.

I cant get my roommate to watch it he just laughs at the idea of the smoke monster ! haha

um, I would agree with you in that, if you wrote down every single question you've had from the first season to the current season, not every single one will be answered. In fact, some stuff will probably contradict previous things, or maybe they just never explain something that clearly needed explaining. But in general I think the writers will try to answer as many of the questions as possible, because they probably realize that people are actually keeping track.
Unless they're just really fucking dumb and choose to keep introducing new shit that makes no sense, and ignore people like is. That's always a possibility..
I still like the show though xD

Lost is a great show. Sure some things are crazy but there are some very exciting moments and great acting/filming. Very creative idea overall as well with many, many different main characters and sub plots.
I'm very happy they have a fixed end to the show as well. Only 2 more seasons and everything wraps up.
Sure there's a ton of bogus stuff but they do explain many things on the show which is nice. They also don't leave stupid cliffhangers at the end of every episode which is a breath of fresh air from many other TV shows.

lost is a horribly retarded show i figured it out halfway through season 2 and quit watchin it
they never had plot ideas they just get drunk and make up new shit for every episode lol
|
The first episode I watched was a random one that had to do with time traveling. I had no idea what the hell was going on.
Apparently people that watch it regularly have no idea either lol

Im actually impressed by this season. The time travel thing explains a lot of the random things we've seen in the past, like Jin talking to Hurley in the hatch in season 1 or 2, in english, random observations of Michaels son (cant remember his name) throughout season 2, and you could even see him speaking backwards at one point..
I love this new season, it goes to show that they didnt just improvise when deciding to do more seasons, the whole thing was planned from the beginning.
Btw, the chick at the end of episode two = faradays mother? Her name is Mrs.Hawking, and you may remember her as the jewlery clerk.

Considering they did tell the only "good hearted" person who was actually looking for them, penelope, the truth, even she with all her resources wasnt able to find the island. While the guy Charles could. Not to mention, Hurley and Sayid are the only guys that came with any conspiracy theories, Sayid was told Ben was the one who placed that plane down there, Hurley thinks the plane is real.
About the babie, kate wanted it, the lie was tough, but just because it was a lie well wtf why would she leave the baby there if she didnt want to.
If they talked to the rest of the world about Charles being dangerous, you really dont think he wouldnt really easily place them all in a nuthouse just like with hurley? How could they possibly back their statements when the guy desmond and his girl are on the run just to stay alive?
