My blog, second entry. My first one can be found here and will serve as a sort of introduction. In this one I will try to have a bit more audience-participation in the form of a poll later on. So, without further a due, let's go.

For some time now I've been wanting to make an 'inlay'. Basically this is a sheet of chainmail, but by using different colours from different kinds of metal you make figures.

I didn't want to use any artificial materials to make blue/yellow/pink rings (wtf right) so I was limited to iron (grey), aluminium (silvery white), copper (orange) and brass (yellow) - though the latter is pretty expensve and only available in small guages.

So, in picking a design I was limited to images with 3-4 colours. I tried looking at some sprites from old NES games etc, but didn't think Kirby would look very well in grey-slash-orange.

Of course! I should do something StarCrafty! I tried looking at some units (hydralisk, ultralisk) and some icons (stim pack, nuke) but none of them worked out.

Then, I came across this:

It was perfect. Three colours. Awesome dragon. And it's the MBC Hero logo for crying out loud!

My first design looked like this. First I had to re-invent the logo, pixel by pixel, since they had to be either red or white (not pinkish, which is what the jpg format likes)

Making the design alone took me about a week >.> However, this design would come down to about 20.000 rings, which is too much, even for me (my biggest shirt was ~12.000). Then I noticed this:

That's right, just the head of the dragon and 'Hero'. So I remade my inlay, to this, consisting of ~4200 rings and thus doable:

When I was done, the Support-sAviOr thread came about and I considered doing the CJ Entus logo in stead. I made the design, but it was a shitload of rings as well so wouldn't have been done in time.

So I was off to work. Making the entire thing took me about a week and a half, working 2-3 hours a day. In the next spoiler are the work-in-progress pics that I made along the way and in the second spoiler is the final product.

The sheet has 4219 rings. Rings are 6mm in diameter, with a 1.5mm wire diameter. I used about 50 meters of iron.

So, here is where you come in. The big question that remain of course is: What should I do with it? I've narrowed it down *cough* to the choices in the poll. In the spoiler under it I comment on every option.

Keep it - Yes, I suppose I could just hang it on my wall and gloat over it every time I wake up.
Make something else of it - Please suggest things if you vote this option. In the first blog someone suggested making a KTF jersey; I guess I could make a jersey with this inlay in it. As it is, it doesn't have much of a function, but I usually want to move on to other things when I'm done with a project.
Sell it - Would you buy it? Still, if enough MBC-crazed fans are willing to bid on this unique, timeless, completely awesome piece of work I'd totally consider auctioning it and giving the money to charity or smth.
Send it to MBC - Yes. If they'd pick this up and use it as a cheerful when Sea ( <3 ) plays and it gets on TV and whatnot I'd be completely proud and shit. However I'm not sure I want to trust it to the international postal services and I'm not sure if the guys @ MBC will appreciate such a token?
Give it to ME! - Well you're rather selfish, aren't you? Still, if the other options tie and you're the only one, you might have a chance

Very nice :D I knew you had been working on it, but never thought you'd really finish it - I guess I was thinking about the huge 20,000 ring one.

I'd like to request a KTF one. You should at least make designs for a few of them and see the minimum rings you can get for it - then you can give quotes on time and price and I am sure people here might like some to show their support

Wow. That looks effing awesome. I would definitely send it to MBC. Make sure to add some korean explaining the time/work it took into making it, and they'll probably bring it out to the TV. That's really impressive.

That is soooo badass!!

You should definitely send it to MBC with like a letter attached and see if you can get it used as a cheerful.

I bet if they look at it and realize you put together the rings yourself instead of just buying some chainmail and spraypainting it, they'll appreciate how much effort you put into it.

That looks crazy...but compared to the original GIGANTIC design you had, it's a bit disappointing...:X

I think you should send it to MBC...I can't imagine that they WOULDNT appreciate it. I also think you should go back and make the BIG one and then send it to me. (:

Can anyone help me find a postal address? I don't know Korean so the MBC site isn't too helpful >.>
