!
i hear a scratching noise in the wall between our room and the next one, I hope it's not a mouse.
Any ideas on how to get rid of the mouse? One of my housemates is threatening to kill me if I kill the mouse, and I'm scared of both her and the mouse. So I guess I should say, any non-lethal ideas?

Would have been awesome if all the OP said was " ! "
Hmm...my first thought was cat when I looked at the title, but I guess that isn't too non lethal. Also housecats these days are pretty damn lazy. Only 1 out of 3 of my cats would actually chase a mouse I think. For now I'm drawing a blank.
Edit: Should center it imo. Actually nvm, looks fine the way it is.
Caller seeing the mouse....
Couldn't resist using those awesome gifs.

Kill you for killing a mouse something is obviously wrong with that. Like protesting against violence, violently.
You can buy rat motels basically a rat trap that's a box that drops a door when the mouse gets in. you could also try leaving the door open and putting a trail of cheese out the door and hope for the best. Although if he got in i doubt he used the front door to begin with.
Rat traps are the only non lethal way. I wouldn't try to catch one by hand rats teeth and jaw are very efficient and powerful they will bite to the bone.

These are awfully fun.

The Walgreen's on 55th and Lake Park should stock mousetraps (the sticky kind, not the icky kind with springs and a decapitator).

Noooooooooooooooooooo don't boil itttttt. just trap it and let it free. Do not kill the mouse!!!
|
my dad used rat traps too and they really do work. just put some food in it and give it a couple days, eventually it'll come out when it's hungry. I didn't actually see them myself but apparently he caught like 3 big ones. totally disgusting.
|
you can just hope its a mouse if you haven't seen it yet ^^, if its a rat then thats much more nasty. Yeah traps that just box him in are probably the best idea, then just let him loose on some other poor fellow, or the roommate
|
just get a stick or something and smash it
Ive only had a mouse in the house once and thats what I did

I definately have had a mouse in my walls. Some times you just gotta starve their dirty ass out. Use headphones my friend, you won't hear them then.

I was reading in our local newspaper about 3 months about the increase of mouse problems. We have had mouse problems once this report came out on the newspaper and we picked up some mouse traps (THE ONE THAT DECAPITATES)....they grow into fuckin rats so yea kill those pest. We trapped about seven within a two week period and that was almost about two months ago. I haven't seen any lately.

is there a way for all of us to live together in peace and harmony? man and mouse and other animals.

Get into contact with Pengu1n via PM, I will also link this topic to him. Within the past two months he has killed four mice in his attic using homemade traps made out of everyday items. He would take pictures of the traps for me the night before, then in the morning with the poor little mice dead in them.
If anyone can help you he can.

It makes the little fuckers crazy. I remember when I was a kid, we had a problem and put poison out. One of them ate it, ran out in the middle of the day into my sister's room and started running in circles, coughing up blood, tripping and falling before going into a seizure and dying. Was fucking insane. PLus, if you poison it and it dies in the walls, it's going to smell like dead ass.
Use a trap that kills it on the spot—fuck your roomate.

If anyone can help you he can. Sounds like the new age MacGyver. Except he kills them instead of letting them live. As for non-lethal mouse traps, besides those posted by IzzyCraft all I could find was this design.

Seems like it's a lot of work compared to the simple ones by Roger Arquer.

Okay I too have a mouse problem in my room. So far my kill count is 5. The method in the video by stanley_ works surprising well. I used a pringle can myself over the edge of my dresser. I've also used cheezeit boxes by cutting them in half and making them into a triangle shape and taping them together. Anything will work as long as its a tunnel because mice love tunnels. Peanut butter works well because it has a strong smell and mice love it, but you can use anything. I caught 2 mice this way the same day i set them up. However I did a slight modification and filled the trash can up with water ahead of time so they mice will fall to their doom and helplessly drown themselves.
This way I don't have to deal with killing them later or having them escape (which happened before, these mice can squeeze through the tiniest cracks its unbelievable.) If you don't want to kill them don't add water and just dispose of them at least a few miles away from your house....but I would recommend killing the mice and lie to your roommate that you let it out, or else it will only come back and make more mice babies.
Once the mice start to catch on to the traps you may have to use other methods. I've killed 2 by sniping them with a high powered BB gun, and one trapped himself in a box somehow so i gave him a nice farewell down the garbage disposer.
Remember, whatever you do, DO NOT let them go. They will find their way back. It is not cruel to kill mice because they are invading your home, keeping you up at night, eating your food, and shitting all over your room. I warned them to get the fuck out and they didn't listen. For me this means war.
|
Why don't you just buy a mouse trap? Haha in my house, we had one or two mice before and the mouse trap did the job.
Also who cares about getting rid of the mouse by killing it...getting rid of it is much more important.
|
A trap dude, it can be one of those cages that close when the mouse gets in if you dont want to kill it -_-. Otherwise, use the cage to drown them. Put some cheese or peanut butter or even bread worked for me.
Dont buy those that are supposed to kill them though, unless you want a mess, as it decapitates them :S, and with poison the mouse can die away from it, where you may not find it and it can stink a lot.
|
nice penguin, BB gun. that's actually a good idea and it's true, if you don't destroy them they'll come back. again and again.

I have a mouse in my room too. It's a Logitech MX518. + Show Spoiler +Yep, this truly was lame.

Should of put the Logitech MX518 in spoilers for epic lameness.

There are some high pitched "noise makers" that plug into sockets which supposedly scare away mice. I'm not convinced they work but you could give them a shot.
Edit: On a side note, I once had a mouse in my house. I chased it into the office near my computer. I shut them door and stuffed towels under the door to stop it from running out and I chased it for a couple hours. I managed to catch it with my hands and a plastic tupperware container. I threw the fucker outside and I'm sure it must have died. (It's -40C where I live so either it died or got into someone else's place)
|
mouse trap. Kill it, dump it out w/o her noticing, and say it just went away.
Hide your food and drink, it'll get out eventually if none were in the room.
Might work too if you don't want to kill it
Do NOT use poison, as that guy already pointed out. It will kill the mouse in some places you cannot reach, and the mouse will rot, and you'll have a bigger problem.
goodluck!

my uncle tried to help a mouse get loose from a glu trap since he trapped it and wanted to release him free. He used chopsticks and instead of helping the mouse, the mouse was ripped in two [i dont know about dying instantly but im sure it died eventually].

Yeah, glue traps are fucking nasty. Cuz if it doesn't chew of it's leg to get away (and die shortly after, probably in your wall) you have to stomp it's brains out. Get a snap trap.

Keep it as a pet after smoking it out obviously.
