Anyone seen this?

I've seen several episodes now and I've developed a strong reaction against fat people like I never have. Now, keep in mind that I've never had anything against obesity, never made fun of people, and never treated them with any less respect.

But I'm watching these 300 lb. people putting themselves through this program of exercise and diet, and when they lose a lot of weight they always say how they have a 'new lease' on life and usually have a good cry.

It kind of angers me that they let themselves go that way. People all over the world are starving, now more than ever, and even though it's no one's fault they are starving, the audacity of these people to eat and eat and now cry about it really makes me mad.

I understand that sometimes there are medical reasons, but many of these people are just lazy and lack self control. And now they're being rewarded for it in addition to being in a position to win $250,000.

These people are being hailed as 'heroes' and 'inspiration'. I don't know how I feel about it. But my personal opinion of fat people have changed.

i know exactly what you mean, the ones that are obese for non-medical condition cause their own obesity and we should respect them and give them a (theoretical) cookie for cleaning up after their own mistakes

I think that it is hilarious. Obesity is easily 70% your fault. i remember watching one show, about an obese women- that had a ton of personal trainers, and basically all of the vain "beautifiers" around to help her. Well when she began her exercise routine, she stopped because her trainer "didn't understand her body. I can accomplish more on my own ext." At this point i had lost all respect for this person because:

1. The trainer was as usual in really good shape, and was giving her sound advice on how to loose weight.

2. She obviously wasn't used to walking that hard, and had forgotten what it feels like to break a sweat.

3. She ends up crying and says that this is too difficult. However an episode later, she is crying because being fat is sooooo terrible, and how it isn't her fault.

So basically ya 30% is genetics, and 70% is your work ethic, and dedication.

I have a lot of friends that say they envy me. I run around eating chocolate, and generally enjoying everything food related in excess. They bitch and scream at me because i can eat anything i want, and never have the consequences. However when i try and coax them to coming to the gym with me every day, they always find an excuse. Sometimes they go with me once, complain it is too hard- stop and when dinner rolls around and i am eating a huge piece of chocolate cake, i get yelled at.

All in all, i love ranting about fat people because they are always are looking for the easy way out, (ie gastric bypass, or liposuction) and never admit that they have failed, and how it is there fault, when in reality: IT IS ALWAYS THEIR FAULT, THEY JUST NEVER HAVE THE DETERMINATION OR DISCIPLINE TO OVERCOME THEIR BAD HABITS.

I think you are exaggerating a bit with the bolded line a the bottom, but I understand your point.

I don't really get it because I'm terrible with exercise right now, diet isn't so great, and I'm barely above where I should be. I don't find it difficult at all to avoid becoming a fatso, and I fully acknowledge it is my fault that I'm not in pretty good shape overall. I really don't think I'm that lucky (although being 'young' definitely can be a factor).

Haha so ironic with the cookie

Well you have to understand that it's an American tv show and obesity is a huge problem here, and any way to fight it is a positive. I also don't understand why you're talking about people who starve, care to elaborate?

If the show actually promotes people to lose weight, then mission accomplished right? More food for the starving kids in Africa and less fatties walking around in America. Sounds like this show is a win/win.

Actually though, I heard that the show doesn't really help for a lot of people, because the lifestyle that they live during the show is not particularly reasonable, and as soon as the show ends they go right back to the way they used to live before the show.

That's true, I remember seeing one of the guys that got kicked off and it showed him like 2 months later and he just gained it all back. But then again there are always some people who manage to live healthier

To Misrah:

so you have some lazy friends and have seen a tv show where the producers picked the most dramatic and pampered fat girl out of probably hundreds to choose from and can now judge all fat people

and you have some kind of human biological degree and profession and have proven what% is genetics and what% is diet and exercise.

buddy, think about it. these people are 300 lbs, they go on a t.v. show and magically lose 100 or more lbs and you don't think it's because they were lazy that they gained all that weight? if it was genetics none of these people would lose so much weight on the show.

And like someone mentioned, this is an American show. The country of excess and fast food. It's not a coincidence.

Well technically no. Not yet at least. I am in preMed and my mom is an BSN.RN so i kind of understand what constitutes obesity more so than that average person. (or so i would like to think)

Basically what i am trying to say there is this:

Losing weight isn't hard. Follow these steps and you will be good to go.

1. Consume less calories than you burn in a given day.

2. Don't drink soda

3. PORTION CONTROL ( I cannot stress this enough)

4. Don't eat right before you go to bed

5. Eat IMMEDIATELY when you get up.

It's that easy. Notice- no special diet and no exercise. The only thing you need is Discipline, so really in that respect, yes i don't put up with bullshit from fat people. Also considering all of the health detriments being fat causes you, and considering i am working in the medical field- i see this first hand, and it makes me sick.

Well, it is true that they have no self discipline.
I myself was 6'8'' 360 lbs. Now I'm down to about 270. All I did was introduce a bit of a workout, some situps/pushups + walking, and cut down on alot of sweets.
But also, it can be a genetic predisposition. Like my family, everyone is either a bit overweight, or flat out obese.

It's not that easy to overcome bad habits. I'm sure all of us do stuff that we know is bad for us, but do it anyway. And with obesity, the more weight you gain the harder it is (psychologically) to start exercising/dieting.
Can't believe I'm still here playing this same game

This show only works in America, a GAME SHOW where obese people win by losing the most weight. I thought this show is one of the dumbest things ever, mainly because I'm not interested in watching fat people lose weight for entertainment, but many people I know are drawn to it, simply because watching 350 pounders go to 180 or so is to them, entertainment value.

Only in America, God Bless you

To all of the fat American people who are grown up in a fast food nation, these people are definitely influential on at least a chunk of the fat population to help lose weight. When I sometimes go to McDonalds or some other restaurants, I have seen many families with their overweight children ordering like 4 Kid's Meals or Big Mac's for a single kid. It's sickening, cause the way I see it, half the time it's the parent's retarded raising of the kid where the parents think overstuffing them with food will help them grow into big, strong people.

Poor kids.

Of course people can lose weight through simple good effort and determination, but some people are too drawn to their food.

Not that I particularly enjoy the fatness of some people. I don't like to get in elevators with them

i was in no way saying that all, or even most fat people are hard working, educated about weight loss, and failing because of genetics, i just find it hard to believe that I'm reading: "IT IS ALWAYS(srsly?) THEIR FAULT, THEY JUST NEVER HAVE THE DETERMINATION OR DISCIPLINE TO OVERCOME THEIR BAD HABITS."

Can everyone pick up better habits and lose[some] weight? yes. can everyone be skinny? no :>

I don't think you're comparing it right...
You don't compare fat people to starving people in remote places. If you want to make that comparison, I could easily have said: "Hey you asshole sitting in front of the computer playing games, why don't you do some more volenteering work to help the starving african childrens?"
The thing is the fat people gotten over being lazy and worked harder, and so that's a pretty good change for them, and they do inspire people to lose weight. The program on TV merely capitalize on that fact and gets money out of it as well through boardcasting it. It's all pretty natural.
Life is run, it is dance, it is fast, passionate and BAM!, you dance and sing and booze while you can for now is the time and time is mine. Smile and laugh when still can for now is the time and soon you die!

That's like saying you killed Sudanese people because you're not in Darfur fighting. By that standard everyone who's not in Darfur is a murderer. But that's not my point.

The 300lb guy is not just 300llbs, he's probably eaten and shit thousands of lbs over his lifetime. And that food wasn't even life sustaining. It's just glutton. That food isn't keeping him alive or providing him nutrients, it's just making himself feel better for 5 minutes or so until he gets hungry again. I just don't like American's attitude towards food and worse it's self-congratulatory pat on the back for being a 300 lb. obese man and losing that weight. The accumulation of all that food that was totally unnecessary just pisses me off.

Everyone has a different body type. I am not arguing that. For example, most people think of sumo wrestlers as obese and thusly in danger of overweight related health risks. (however this is not the case at all. In actuality Sumo are in perfect health.) Everyone has their own body shape and size. In no way am i saying that skinny is a must, nor am i saying that being "big boned" or a "bigger" or curvaceous person is a bad thing.

Like all things in life, moderation is key. I have a problem with you if:

You are borderline obease

Your weight is effecting your health

You want to change the way you look, but don't man up to the fact that you control your weight, and it was your fault in the first place. When you don't accept the consequences of your actions- nor are you willing to put in the time or effort to correct your mistakes.

Other than the above, i will never have a problem with you- ever.

I dislike the discrimination. Why do fat people get to win money while skinny people like me can't? The Biggest Gainer anyone???
