Hi!
I'm getting my wisdom teeth taking out Friday, and I keep getting different answers from people. I have a very low tolerance to pain. I'm supposed to be given Valium one hour before it starts.

I'm going to be prescribed 7.5 MG Vicodin(Will this help?).
Anyone who knows what Valium does, please tell me!

wikipedia is your friend

the only advice I can give you is stock up on soft food (whatever your dentist reccomends) and dont plan to do anything the day after you get them out. Some people are fine, some people are basically out of it

Vicodin is for the pain, yes it will help.
And as for Valium... I recommend this copy/paste from wiki.

Ah, I remember getting my wisdom teeth removed, it really isn't that bad. You won't remember the operation AT ALL. You'll see yourself in the room, and next thing you know, you're in your bed at home (with some wads in your mouth and A LOT of profuse bleeding... ). Your mouth doesn't really hurt, but rather is sore as hell until the gums heal up. Definitely be prepared to eat a lot of soft foods like fusionsdf recommended (smoothies are really nice since they offer a bit of numbness and go down easily). After the surgery, you're extremely groggy and everything is blurry; you won't remember anything at all. My cousin told me that I fell on my face when I came home, and that I kept yelling for my mp3 player, lol. Good luck.

I assume you are going to be numbed but awake for the operation. Try not to confuse pressure and pain though. I assume the valium will help you with that.

my exp:
i had to do this crap twice cuz my bot teeth grew out before the tops.

anyway. for the bottom operation my bottom wisdoms were almost completely out and i was awake. the doctor had presumably "given" me shots to numb my mouth and gums...
long story short - the dentist shot me once on each cheek and then went and started pulling out my bottom wisdom teeth. it hurt like a bitch. i took vicodin for 3 days to kill the pain, so that wasnt bad. The worst part was that i couldnt eat solid food for about 5 days. Lost 10lbs

so a few months later when i had to do the top two, i went to a SURGEON, not a dentist, who put me to sleep for an hour while he went to work. Quick, painless, but expensive. i woke with swelling for the next 24 hours but i could eat.

if you can't eat solid foods, protein shakes, smoothies, are the way to go.

So many people getting wisdom teeth out too... I don't want mine to come out. TL has made me scared.

I had a problem where I my gums wouldn't seal back up for a long time so I ate soft foods for almost 3 weeks. Maybe it's because I had impacted wisdom teeth so they had to use a drill and drill through the top layer of bone and then get the wisdom teeth that were being blocked by the layer of bone on top of it.

I was uncomfortable for a week or two after I got mine out, nothing too bad though. Also, I am a bit of a no-medicine guy, so I didn't even take the full regimen of whatever the painkiller they gave me was, so if you do you should definitely be fine.

i just got mine out on monday
it's easy and painless like you wont believe, anyone who tells you it hurt a lot (unless they had complications) is trying to scare you

I have 3/4 wisdom teeth removed

2 of them were like 60 degree off, pointing directly to the neighbor tooth. + Show Spoiler +

The dentist had to cut the inner gum open just to make way to take them out

Although I took some antibiotics injection right afterward, 1 day after the operation my right jaw got swollen as big as a fucking tennis ball + Show Spoiler +

i will warn you that the one unsettling part is when they take out the bottom ones, there is a kind of sharp pain from something to do with nerves not freezing, but that was the only part that kind of freaked me out, it was just for a second but it scared me, lol

I just had mine taken out the past summer.. It was not all too bad.
The surgery was fine, I was left with a numbing sensation and that wore off after a few hours..
I was prescribed painkillers, but I opt to not take them cuz there wasn't immense pain..

Just chill out on icecream/soup.. i was back to solid food like 3 days after

lol... i had mine out a few years ago... and never took any meds other asperin (or tylenol... don remember which one does what

)

note though: you know the honey rolls at the store?... theyll be your best friend if you let them

Vicodin is your best friend! When I got mine out like... 8 years ago or so, I just took vicodin whenever it started to hurt, and didn't really feel much at all... They'll likely give you way more vicodin than required anyway.

It's no biggie. =)

i got my 4 wisdom teeth pulled a few months ago. actual process is painless; you wont feel a thing.
afterwards, there was a lot of bleeding and drooling, and my gums were sore, but not much pain. if you do feel pain, just pop in a painkiller and you'll be fine.

even if it was painful, it would be nothing compared to not being able to enjoy my meals for the next two weeks.

Be sure not to take too much Vicodin though, as it can lead to addiction. I was pretty freaked out about that so I didn't take that much at all >> (There's still a bottle of like 40 pills in my drawer..) I recall the bottle labeling only to take 1/2 a pill to 1/3 a pill, at a time, my surgeon even gave me a really cool pill cutter thing :D.

Yeah it varies a lot.... It's a lot worse for some people because they have to cut into the gums. For example, when I got mine taken out, neither of my wisdom teeth were even close to breaking through the gums yet, so they had to cut a lot of gum away, and then BREAK them into pieces, and then take them out.

i got one wisdom tooth taken out like 1 hour ago.. took the dentist like 15min and i didnt feal any pain at all (local anesthesia). it was already coming out a little bit but was stuck (cross) so it had to be cut but as i said took the dentist only 15min + ~10min strings. easy going
