The problem: + Show Spoiler +Have you ever taken a shower where you felt really cold after you finished? Depending on your region, how your household sets the thermostat, etc, you might experience this all the time like I do. I've spent years coming up with strategies to prevent this.
An early strategy I devised was to keep the shower door closed, and dry off from inside the shower. This helps a little, as I once read in a conceptual physics textbook. However, if you have a cold house and/or a big bathroom, it probably is sufficient in making you feel like crap (cold crap at that) after a shower (amplified if you have a decent amount of hair I suppose).
Once or twice I tried cranking up the temperature on the water to maximum and leaving it on just as I exited the shower. This produced additional steam to help keep the bathroom warm, but proved to be less useful than my current strategy.
The setup: + Show Spoiler +The bigger the bathroom, the better this will work (but also the more necessary it is). You need a power outlet with one of those reset buttons because you are going to be plugging something into a wall outlet in a steamy room, and something could possibly go wrong.
The solution: + Show Spoiler +Plug an electric space heater into the outlet, and place the space heater on the floor, facing away from anything flammable (if the floor is carpeted you shouldn't do it, but I doubt anyone has a carpeted bathroom). Turn it on before you shower. Depending on the brevity of the shower and the size of the bathroom, you might want to turn it on well before you enter the bathroom to begin with.
If leaving a space heater in the bathroom is a bad idea, then just bring it in with you, and back out when you are done (that's what I do). You'll never have a freezing cold 5 minutes while you dry off again!

Just step out of the shower and dry yourself with a towel.

So you don't have regular heating in your bath room? ._.

When you get out dry your legs and arms first because they have the greatest surface area to volume ratio. Problem solved. Everytime you use that heater you are killing the environment (not to mention your power bill)

Everytime you use that heater you are killing the environment (not to mention your power bill) Er what? How are you killing the environment? I mean, using electricity does in turn spell bad news for the environment, but I think the amount of energy used with this is much less than many other places where you haven't pointed this out (any discussion about central air conditioning lol). Besides, if the house was warmer (more expensive and worse for environment) then the bathroom wouldn't require the additional heat.

I used to do the drying off in the shower one and I also tried turning it blindingly hot just before I get out. This heater idea sounds best though.

i do the space heater to bathroom as well
my name is ghin and i approve this message

I used to have that problem as well (used to study in Canada lol, winter is painful)
yeah, it's simple, just keep a dry towel within hand-reach so that you don't have to leave the shower to get the towel. Before you finish, heat up the water 10-15% and soak up urself in hot water for 30 secs. Turn off water and immediately use the dry towel at hand to dry yourself up real quick. The order to dry up is head, chest, back, arms, wrist, leg and feet.
PS: don't forget to dry up the place under your arms
Problem solved.

1. portable fan heater is for your BEDROOM , waaay too much effort to unplug it and bring it to the bathroom then have to go and get it again later, plus u cant use it in ur bedroom until u'v dried urself off abit due to danger
2. i have gas central heating , radiators on in bedroom and bathroom only. make sure bathroom door is always closed. edit: o and pay ur fuckin bill
3. depends on your timing......if you really want u can go straight back to ur bedroom and cover urself up with ur duvet while u browse TL, it'll dry by tonight or if it doesn't who cares, a job took priority
4. 20 quick press-ups..... this will solve any heat problems u have straight away!!!

Hmm. Let's see here...
No central heating, in fact no heaters in that entire area of the house. We have one of those water saver showerheads which slows the water down and reduces pressure hardcore; you can only cover 1/3 of your body max with water at a time. You learn this weird swaying motion so that the water is constantly moving around your body, just as a spot is about to get cold (relative to the water temp) it gets hit by water again. Anyway, I digress.
The solution Ridiculously hot showers, close the door and window to the bathroom, let the entire bathroom steam up as you shower. Once you turn off the shower you have 1 minute~ to dry yourself before it starts getting cold (The steam stops being warm at this point). If the morning is really fucking cold (midwinter) then bring clothes with you into the bathroom to get changed into instantly, otherwise make a run for your room with your clothes already laid out and pull them on asap.
EDIT: These are morning showers. On days where we know the next morning it's gonna be close to 0 (celsius, and only in midwinter really) then we'll leave a portable heater on overnight.
|
I do this sometimes.
Pretty much just in the winter. There's really no temperature change at all. You're hot in the shower, and then you get out, and you're still toasty.
It owwwwwwwwns
|
you know what i do? i shower while increasing temperature. then when its a bit to hot i go down to about 35 degrees celsius. then my body will increase its own temperature. then when im warm under the 35 degrees shower i dry myself.
|
It is almsot 6:00 a.m where I am right now, my house is somewhere near 59-63 degrees I would imagine with it being a little colder outside.... I wanted to take a nice warm shower, but didn't want to get cold after.
I actually was thinking .... I could take a normal shower then when I was almost done take 3-4 minutes and plug up the tub, and fill it with 6-8 inches of hot water, then sit down turn off the shower and my head/chest and arms while keeping my legs warm then going straight from sitting to drying my masercrotch/pelvicarea/chode/leftball and right/pubic hair and behind my knees.
I live in california I don't own a portable heater, but I do have coco.
Fuck, I just talked myself into Coco ,a bath and my new book "Life after genius"
sob.

15 seconds each way for me. but it is an effort. oh plus theres no plugpoint/id find it too much of a hazard if there was probably.
whoever said turning up the water heat? u shud turn it down, otherwise the difference between your local heat and the room heat is a large difference, therefore you'll feel even colder. i have warm showers anyway, very sensitive to hotness.
you can sit on the toilet for a while and leave the hot shower water running while you have a cigarette, that works somewhat.

Does it really take 5 minutes to dry yourself? I couldn't imagine taking more than half a minute.
Maybe I'm underestimating the amount of time it takes you lift your fat folds though.
|
takes me a long long time to get dry. depends on how hairy u are i think.

I always shower with cold water for a short time (5 sec.~) just before I leave. works for me!

edit: and the random fat bashing (not that it is relevant) isn't really appreciated in this blog.

Well it was obviously a joke, but I guess some people aren't comfortable enough with their body to poke fun at it.
I'm also not tall and have very little hair, so that's probably why it doesn't take me a long time.
And I don't have a 15 inch penis to dry.

And I don't have a 15 inch penis to dry. Sorry but your implications here are wrong, and you cannot justify what you said earlier. There are thousands of legitimate ways to poke fun at others and get away with it, and this isn't one of them.
Also you just implied that I must be fat in order for me to be insecure enough to call you out on saying it... which doesn't pan out since I'm not fat.

My bathroom is pretty average size so I just dry off in the shower then run into my bedroom and lay underneath my blankets until like 2 min before I have to leave then I scramble and get my shit and bounce.

It was obviously not intended to be malicious. I don't know why you're so offended by a fat joke, if it's not funny then you can just ignore it.
What makes a fat joke unacceptable?

Disclaimer: I'm a Canadian who lives in Winnipeg (Winterpeg). It gets to -30C (-22F) at least without windchill here.
First of all, it depends how well your house is insulated. When I was in Australia no one had insulation so their "cold weather" (8C) made the bathrooms really quite cold. I'll just assume everyone's cold is pretty much the same.
What I do is get all my clothing ready before I have a shower. I put it in the bathroom near the shower. I hang a towel over the shower curtain/wall. When my shower is done I grab my towel and remove all the water off my body asap, starting with my chest then arms and legs and then my hair. It helps to remove excess water off your head at this point because that's where you lose the most body heat and you can blow dry it after.
Then, you get out of the shower and dress yourself immediately. I normally just toss on some pants. Blow dry your hair and you should be fine.
Edit: Typo
|
My bathroom is decent sized and all I do if I take a shower in the morning is, I leave the shower on when I get out of the shower and dry myself. The shower on will still produce the steam and heat that will keep you warm even when your out of the water.

Agreed, what's the big deal.
So you're cold for like 30 seconds.
It's definitely not worth buying a space heater for 30 seconds of not being cold. Even if I already had a space heater it wouldn't be worth bringing it into the bathroom, bringing it out afterward, and the risk of having it on in there just to not be slightly cold for 30 seconds.
Being cold really isn't that big of a deal unless it's either for a long period of time or when you're trying to use your fingers, like when playing starcraft or music.

Maybe you have a warm bathroom. Mine definitely isn't as cold as some people in this thread (Canada with little to no heat = nothx) but I know from experience that when you get out of the shower, if the temperature is say 65F or below, you are going to be uncomfortable for more than 30 seconds. It's not TERRIBLE, and I'm not advocating going out and spending money just for this problem, but I do it every time because I already have a space heater, and it definitely feels worth the inconvenience of simply carrying it in and out of the bathroom.

Yeah, I just start off with a warm shower and then gradually turn it to cool to wake up~

Im from Canada as well (Alberta) and we get to minus forty from time to time, and I guess because i've grown up in that atmosphere, cold air doesn't bother me. A few minutes of being cold actually feels good when I get out of the shower. I find that sometimes the heat makes me really sleepy after work, and getting a nice shot of cold air as soon as I step out, is enjoyable.

Well, you could try just taking a super hot shower. That's what I do, usually when I get out of the shower I'm wanting to open the window even if it is cold. My house does get pretty cold in the winter, even though it's California. It just has like no insulation, which sucks really badly sometimes.

This is just such a terrible attempt at trying to both prove me wrong, and make me seem like a 'wuss'.
First of all I have no idea what you mean by your first sentence.
Regarding your second, you are making the claim that you are not, say, a troll, because it truly is a wuss move to complain (I wasn't complaining) and make up a solution to a problem, because humans have had that problem for over a hundred years. By that logic, cars should not have been invented to help us get from one city to another quickly. Hell, the wheel should not have been invented to help us move stuff. Saying 'humans dealt with it just fine, leave it alone' is ignorant. There actually are a few reasonable claims you can make, but you either don't want to or are not capable of making them (if the first two sentences are any indicator of your capabilities for 'change <someone's> mind'.
PANSIES, and quite literally might I add. 1. a violet, Viola tricolor hortensis, cultivated in many varieties, having richly and variously colored flowers. 2. the flower of this plant. 3. Slang: Disparaging and Offensive. a. a male homosexual. b. a weak, effeminate, and often cowardly man.
I have no idea what you meant by 'literally' unless you are calling me gay which I hope you are not.+ Show Spoiler +In case it wasn't clear enough, the reason why literally wouldn't make sense if you were calling me weak/cowardly/etc is because there would be no reason why you would say that but not literally mean it... and you obviously didn't mean violet or flower... so the only choice is homosexual.

Long ago I huddle around a tiny space heater after an early morning shower and make a little tent with my towel and be in fucking hot heaven.
|
You know, this was the exact problem I've been facing for the longest time. An alternative is to take a slightly colder shower. It isn't unbearable because you aren't used to the really hot water that you get (only when it starts hot and cools down). But then, I went back to the hot water, and =\.
Genius micronesia... Physics owns =D.

I like to take longer showers with hot water so when I get out the whole bathroom is steamy. And I don't turn on the ventiliation thing because I think that it will take some of the heat away, which it probably doesnt

And yes I was referring to 3b. If your homosexual, idc
MEANING:
If you AREN'T a PANSY, then you wouldnt and probably shouldnt mind being COLD for FIVE SECONDS of your LIFE. For all the human beings in the world, getting out of a shower tends to leave people 10 to 20 degrees difference in temperature - a common, yet minor side effect. Thus making the complainers pansies b/c they cannot deal with this short term body temperature change. AND then they complain about it (which is fine) but get defensive b.c someone has a different opinion
So in turn, your a fucking loser. B.c you feel it necessary to pull out dictionary to prove me wrong.

just pull the towel into the shower stall with you after you finish your shower, and dont open the curtain or door until you are done drying off. Then have your clothes close by. I find putting on a shirt first results in less cold compared to jeans first.

I have the opposite problem of being over heated after a shower. If I dont take the necessary precautions I will start sweating. I actually turn the shower to cold for the last minute so I wont be to warm when I get out. Even then I will sometimes have to splash cold water on my face and run my hands under cold water for a minute after drying off to prevent getting to hot.
edit: Then after that I usually just walk around in my boxers for a few minutes and slowly put my clothes on as I get ready for my day. If I put socks on to quickly my temperature will sky rocket and I will just have to get naked to cool down.
