So I'm doing surveys to my school about the U.S's presidential election and this is my question.
"If you are the age of 18 and eligible to vote OR if you could vote in this year’s presidential election, would you vote for Democratic Barack Obama or Republican John McCain?"
Is this question clear? What should I fix to get rid of any bias and to clear up anything? I'm trying to ask the difference between the people who CAN vote and the people who COULD vote but I'm not sure how to clear it up. Thanks

Wait, "if I can vote", does I mean I can legally vote or if I was given the ability to vote I would? My question would be, if you can legally vote, would you vote or Obama or McCain?

Change the order in which you name the candidates every time you ask the question. Also its "Democrat" not "Democratic".

Wait, if you are trying to find a connection between voting eligibility, and candidate selection, then you need to split it up into two questions. I'm not sure if that's what you mean. But otherwise, just ask who you would rather vote for.

if you say Democratic, you'll have to have the word Candidate in there.

"If you were to vote, which candidate would it be for?"
Then have a check box on the survey sheet that the person will tick that says (I can vote) (I cannot vote)

Yes, don't name the candidates.
