I kinda need some advice. I lack motivation. To focus on one thing and keep up with it. I come home from work, surf on the web, watch some TV, watch daily Vods and play some Starcraft and sleep. Then back to work, and that circle over again. First question to you guys: Where do you get your motivation to do stuff?
I’m trying to chose what to really focus on next. The last months has been abit back and forth, and I really want to focus my energy and concentrate it more. But I’m unsure on what. I need reason to do stuff, something to motivate me.
I’m a former really hardcore WoW player, and I really put my energy into it for almost 2 years. I’ve been playing just casually now and then since I “quit” and got a job. I find WoW rather boring now days, maybe because I don’t focus to get better or play as much as I used to, or that simply my skill has decreased and I feel outdated. I’m so behind due to the PvP scene that released in TBC, and I feel PvE more intresting. The game, it just requires so much time. But in other hand, I feel so much better at it than at Starcraft. As a Starcraft player, I’m only about D+ level and improving. I’ve joined my first serious clan and think its ok. I keep loosing a lot, and I feel so useless at the game compared to how it was in WoW. It’s hard to keep up, and to have motivation to play on.
I really would like to CREATE or contribute something, to gain motivation. I feel I have spare energy, but I wanna focus the energy I have on something. Like create a guild in WoW, or a clan in SC. Or something where I really can contribute and spend the energy I have spare, and really feel the urge to wanna do it. Mainly in WoW I play Priest, and I feel I have a lot of knowledge about it. I feel like sharing it, like for instance put up clips on youtube etc. It’s a way to give something, since I feel horrible at Starcraft. I don’t feel that I have that much to offer.
So I have choises:
Poll: Best Choise (Vote): Play SC to IMPROVE and contribute to the Clan. (Vote): Play WoW and follow SC, create something to unleash energy (youtube clips, guild etc) (Vote): Follow Starcraft casually. Focus on IRL (work, friends, workout etc.) (Vote): Other (comment)

This isn't even a choice. Just play for entertainment occasionally and work on your life.

I chose other. Try some poker, it's amazing feeling playing the hands.

Not sure if I understand the situation correctly. You seem to say you want to do SOMETHING, you just don't know what. If you knew what you wanted to do, then you would have some sort of motivation, not lack thereof. I don't know what that feels like, because I always want to play games and that's what I do.
On the other hand, if you actually have something you want to do, but can't bring yourself to do it, you could try thinking about if you really want to do it or not. If so, go ahead and force yourself to start at least, after which you can decide it's not actually something you want to do that much o.o

In my opinion you can play StarCraft to improve and still make time to do IRL things. I mean, you won't be able to play 8 hours of StarCraft a day and go from D+ to A+ within the next three months, but I think you can balance it so that you can get in one or two hours of StarCraft playing a day. You just have to make your practicing efficient/effective and be VERY critical of yourself so that you're constantly improving, and not just practicing your cheese builds over and over again on D Ranked players.
As far as motivation I think you should read

It was very useful to me and I think it'll help you. Best wishes.

There's loads of creative/productive things you could do. In my opinion computer games should be for entertainment, if training hard is fun, then go ahead. Mmorpgs are fun (for some) because people like to gradually see their hard work pay off, in fact it's not very different from work (as in a job).
Things you could do on the side include: pick up a musical instrument, learn to draw/paint/sculpt, join a sports club, learn programming, learn a language you've always wanted to, learn to dance, etc.
I can't tell you what you'll enjoy, but you can quite easily quantify your achievement in most things. Also they're useful skills, unlike those you grind for hours to get in mmorpgs.

Thanks for replys guys. Would like to see more people share abit more about their experience.
Well I've come to realize starcraft and WoW are my intrests currently, so I might aswell do something more with them. Like forinstance if somebody plays WoW and develops leadership by creating a guild etc, they get alot more out of it.
Bottleabuser: Yes I want to focus do somthing, and not jumping back and forth doing a little this and a little that. I want to decide what I want. But I need reasons why do it! Developing leadership, sharing experience within WoW is one reason. In Starcraft, Its more of an passion and learning experience. Getting better! Guess I need to ponder more on it and get my thoughts straight.
Tho working on your life; not having friends that share the same intrest is kinda boring. Tho I spend time with them occasionally. And working I will do in either of the choise cases. It's the focus, spend time with contributing at work with ideas etc and making a better career out of it. More IRL = less vod watching, less starcraft less what I get entertained of. Guess there is allways sacrifices for developing I guess. There is so little time I've realized Oo I need to start spending my time more efficently. Hope you get my points.
