So today was my birthday so my mom let me get contacts. Actually, my glasses broke last friday so it just so happened that my birthday was coming up so I got to get these.
It took me forever to put these on and when I did, it felt so good. But at the place, they said I had to prove that I could take them off and it took a while for that but after I did, I was able to go home. Now, its taking me forever to put them back on, and I need to wear these to school or I can't see worth crap.
But I'm happy I got them, just need practice I guess. How long did it take for you all to adjust and just pop them in?

about 3 or 4 days..shouldnt take too long
|
congrats yo but get a pair of backup glasses too just in case
|
I've never tried using contacts, I'm afraid I'll fuck up in the process of putting them on/off.
I think I'm getting Laser surgery soon, my dad wants me to get it, so I lose the glasses and all~

I hope you like them.
I had trouble at first too, perhaps an above average amount of trouble. The first few days or a week is weird, and you should give yourself a nice extra pocket of time in which to deal with lens bullshit, ie dropping them, not able to get them in, etc. My big secret (I'm not saying this is original mind you) is to look into the mirror with my face slightly tilted down... looking into my eyes, the whites below my iris's are very visible (because of the angle of my head) and I just slap the lens onto the white, kind of slide it around on just the white part of my eye (to help flatten it out), then lift my face like normal and let my eyes go into their normal position, thus forcing the lens up over the iris. This makes it easier to get the things in because you aren't looking right at the lens as it comes on. Taking them out I do kind of the same thing as before, then kind of grab the very edge of the lens with my finger tip, slide it way down off my iris and over the white of my eye below the iris, then kind of pinch to get the lens to fold, then grab it and pull it off.
All that said, I'm done with lenses! I wore glasses from age 7 to age 20, got into lenses late in year 20, and wore them until just about 2 weeks ago, around my 25th birthday. I was very insecure about wearing glasses, and got into lenses for vanity reasons. Now, at age 25, I don't have the insecurity anymore (or it is a lot smaller than it used to be) and am glad to get back into glasses.
There are problems with lenses. For me, the main one is that because I have stigmatism, they don't give me the same quality vision I can get with glasses. For many people, lenses give BETTER vision than glasses. But lenses get lost. Lenses get dirty and irritate the hell out of your eyes. If you get dirt under one, it SUCKS. If you get a tiny hair under one, it SUCKS. If anything gets in your eye, it sucks. Sometimes they just irritate your eye on their own, and it's uncomfortable. When you get tired, your eyes dry out, and the lenses will kind of start acting weird - folding up a little and giving you discomfort and much reduced vision. Sometimes your eyes will dry out even when you aren't tired (wind, etc), and same problems result. When people use computers (particularly in gaming situations) they tend to blink less, and thus the eyes and lenses dry out... etc etc! They got to be too big a hassle for me, combined with worse than optimal vision, so I LEAPED at the chance to get back into glasses.
Last thing: lenses deprive your eyes of needed oxygen. They are probably OK if you don't wear them all the time. In other words, don't wear them for more than 8 or 10 hours at a stretch if you can help it. DO NOT SLEEP IN THEM! If you sleep in lenses, you open yourself up for serious health problems, including bacterial infections that will cost you your eyesight. But even if you don't get bad infections or minor infections from wearing them too much, you are still doing light damage just by depriving the eye of oxygen. So take them out every 8 or 10 hours (or less!) and let your eyes have a break.
I seriously hope you like them. Lenses were great for me, and helped my confidence level (with women, peers, etc) at a time when I really needed that. After a few years of that, I'm now happy with glasses again.

Extensive use of contact lenses can deteriorate your eye health. After a few days, I got used to it, but after I heard from a doctor that they aren't particularly good for your eyes, I tend to switch contacts and glasses. They are great, but as ^ said, don't sleep in them at all. Don't keep them in for too long, remember to clean them well, and soak them overnight, unless they are dailies. Remember, not being able to see well is always better than wearing dirty / ripped contacts; because they can cause some serious damage to your eyes.

Contact lenses are the bomb!!!! ^^
It took me about 3 weeks to get used to touching my eyeball, but after that it was np. Inky gives some really great advice, my story is pretty similar...I got contacts freshman year of hs because I was self-conscious and wore them for 8 years, and now that I'm older I wear glasses most of the time (thick emo ones....hollerrrrrr). All I could really add is that its important to have good habits about keeping them clean, like always wash your hands before you touch your eyes and take the time to wash them out. My eyeball used to get irritated to the point that I had to take a couple days off the lenses because I kept getting crap in my eye and getting it infected. Also, if you know your gonna be infront of the comp for a while I'd take out the lenses out.
They have really nice soft lenses now that are much more permeable than older ones and let your eyes breathe a lot better. I would recommend spending a little bit more and not just getting the cheapest ones possible. I had Acuvue2's for the longest time, and I didn't realize the difference until I got Ciba o2 Optix (which is what I have now), and they are awesome.

Really depends on the person, and the eye honestally It didnt concern me too much at all Oh also, the product, if its the contacts you get at like, Lencrafters, its ok, I prefer Day+Night 30 Days Contacts, Hellas good, and they can last more than a month honestally They can actually last forever, but very not advised, you can get eye crap or somethin, i heard on the news a while ago this grandma had contacts for 70 years and now shes legally blind because of that

I never could get used to having them, apparently my blinking reflex is very strong. Even after trying for an hour I could never get them in and eventually gave up after a few weeks. I like the style of glasses though, makes me look smart.
I hear that contacts are also better for your vision in terms of not making it worse as fast as glasses do. Something about having your eyes focus to close to your face and the muscles in them start being unable to focus on more far away objects. My dad always tells me to wear me glasses as little as possible since they ruin your eyesight.
So yeah, most people are not like me and can put their contacts in very easily.
|
when i went to the optometrist for the first time when i got my contacts (they gave them to me there) it was so fucking frustrating putting them in. also my eyes are kind of sensitive and the contact cleaning solution burns my eyes like hell. i switched over to the 1 a day contacts and they are working great so far, they are more expensive thou.
|
So I see that it all depends on the person, I'll be sure to keep those clean, and you have to wash and put in new solution in the lense case right?
|
yeah i usually change the solution in the case every 1-2 days, it gets dirty pretty fast. at the end of the night just take out the contacts and put them in the case overnight.

NEVER reuse solution. Wash your case often as well.

I thought you meant "contacts" in high up places or something =(
|
I actually had no trouble getting my contacts in
and i don't even wear them that often, not too terrible of vision
go figure
|
I used to wear contacts in highschool but when I got to college I got too lazy to take care of them. Also, every time my eyesight used to get blurry I would reach up to adjust my glasses then promptly realized I didn't have any and tried to play it off smoothly. hehehehehe
