So basically, the last presidential debate (I think) is being held at my college where I am currently a graduate student. I received an e-mail offering for me to apply for one of three positions. I don't think I'm really qualified, nor will I be particularly available around then, but it is still too interesting an opportunity to pass up without even thinking about for a moment. The deadline for the application is tomorrow though lol.
Here's a summary of the information found at http://www.hofstra.edu/debate/debate_volunteers.html

The application deadline for student volunteers is September 8, 2008.
Volunteers may be asked to commit to a pre-determined schedule of assignments leading up to the days of the debate, and to be available for on-call assignments well in advance of the debate.
Applicants should choose their top two categories for volunteering. Students will be placed in volunteer areas based upon their specific qualifications and on a first come, first served basis.
While all volunteers may be called upon to assist with projects from September 15 - October 16, those selecting Media Production or Debate Production volunteer opportunities must have flexible schedules during this time period.
*
Event Operations: Volunteers are needed to work in the media and visitor credentialing/welcome center, and will be responsible for check-in and general administrative duties, as well as providing directions and general information to guests. Volunteers must have excellent communication skills. Volunteers will also assist with security procedures and distribution of debate tickets for students on the day of the event as well as providing assistance at the campus "live-feed" satellite locations. Volunteers are needed for the days prior to and the day of the debate.
*
Media Production & Communications: Volunteers should have an interest in pursuing a career in the media production field or have prior experience in this area. Volunteers will also be needed to provide administrative support. A limited number of volunteers will need a car to run errands. Volunteers with writing, photography and/or broadcast television experience are needed to work with the University's communications staff on publications and broadcast opportunities. Public relations, journalism or audio/video/film experience preferred.
*
Debate Production: Please note there are a very limited number of volunteer positions in this area. Serving as a debate hall volunteer does not guarantee access to the debate hall during the debate. Volunteers in this area will work directly with The Commission on Presidential Debates as well as with Hofstra debate coordinators on elements of direct production. Volunteers should be informed about the presidential election, have an interest in politics, and work well under deadlines.
