Just got back from the gym, figured might as well post this.
It was November last year, during the Seattle WCG grand finals when I hit my peak, three weeks of Denny's and IHOP. Yeah, really wouldn't recommend it.
I was pretty much at my heaviest and most unhealthy at that point, weighed in at 216lb/98kg, I am about 5"6-7 so I was very overweight. Trend carried on over Christmas and new years. It was around February. One morning I was at the train station catching a train to the city when I saw mine leaving, It was like a 100 metre run to get to the train, but it took me like 5 minutes to regain my breath. That's when it all changed. The reason that effected me so much was that I did long distance running for many years when I was younger, I could run 5-10km without a problem, now I was on the verge of death after 100 metres, wtf?
It all started from there, I was realistic about it as well, I wasn't expected to become super healthy and fit over night. I started somewhere where I know would be tough, and figured if I can overcome that, rest would be easy. I quit drinking for about 2-3 months and drink very little now. That along with (initially) a small change in diet and a little bit more walking and the pounds started dropping off.
Anyway, the healthier I got and the more weight I lost the more active I became and the healthier my life and diet became. I only joined the gym last week and mostly did that because their weight facilities are much better than what I was using at home, and I have really upped my weight training since I'm getting sick of cardio.
Anyway, just got back from the gym, weighed myself before I left, weighed in at 166lb/75kg.

Basically a healthier lifestyle and improved habits. Reduced stress levels and sleeping better. I also got back into the things I use to enjoy like rock climbing and mountain biking.
One thing you should consider if you plan on losing lots of weight. It gets expensive having to buy a new set of clothes every 10-15lb, seriously..
As this is something that I do not plan on slowing down on or stopping, I had planned to save this blog until I was at super-fit levels. But yeah, figured its sort of a landmark. So next one of these blogs I'll be ripped.

I lost 40 pounds this summer and I want to lose another 40. It's been much harder to get results after the first 40 though
I ride my bike like mad and do as much weights as I can. Usually try to eat healthy, but I'm not too strict, and I still drink semi-frequently (once every 2 weeks). I guess if I want to lose the next 40 pounds, I have to quit drinking and going out for wings for a while

Just proves again there's no secret to losing weight, just have to put the effort in.
Good work!

Grats, that's awesome.
It does have a lot to do with your diet, I believe your diet has more to do with it than anything else actually. I don't like cutting out tons of things from my life, I still wanted to drink when I went out and still had the occasional pizza. So to compensate I just exercised twice as hard, I was walking 2-3km a day and running 5-7km 3-5 times a week. But the slow changes to my diet became normal, and I was no longer craving for that cookie or a slice of pizza when a healthy sandwich and apple would do. And after a while it becomes normal, even at a restaurant to say order your stake with a side of salad instead of potatoes. And to grab a light beer or glass of water instead of a soda (which is something I never drink any more)
See if you can cut out one thing a week, and that could even be one less slice of bread a day or a couple less sodas per week.

Good work!
You know, every 3-6 months (depending on how much I enjoy it) I change hobbies. In the past it has gone from graphic design to video games, to golf to photography and the last one has been fitness. I have noticed this has been the most enjoyable for me and probably the one I have been the most proficient at. And to be honest, if I had lost tons of weight in the first few months I probably would have quit by now and be back to my old habits. I stuck with it because I like to see results from my goals, luckily this "hobby" took so long that it has become a lifestyle change and has become a passive part of my life.

Thanks again everyone, its this sort of encouragement and support that has made this so fun and achievable. And is going to be the fuel required to get to the next level.

Congrats, you also look younger too.
