Either I suffer from a significant biological disorder, or my computer completely removes my ability to fall asleep for hours when I gaze upon the screen for a mere moment (exaggeration).

When I got home from work today I felt okay, but within an hour or so I felt really tired (and with good reason). For the next couple of hours I could barely move, but didn't go to bed because I was worried I'd just sleep until morning, and there was stuff I needed to do.

A few hours passed, and I went to bed. I was lying in bed for an hour and didn't feel the slightest bit sleepy. the ~1hour I spent on my computer must have completely screwed me up.

However, I've gone through stages where I've been away from computers/tv's etc entirely and have still had trouble falling asleep. One of these days I'm going to overreact and inject myself with enough of whatever it takes to knock out a bull elephant.

Edit: Okay trying to sleep again now.

your mind keeps working when you just get off a computer, go read a book, or watch some REAL boring TV show and it'll do the trick. Or do like 3 sets of 10 pushups

its easier to sleep after physical exercise. thats why jackin' off and other exercises like pushups (as caucasian said) and crunches or w/e are natural sleep aids, although you don't want to get too sweaty that you sleep all wet...

I tried using reading to put me to sleep. In a couple of weeks I was a master of the US Constitution. Failure.

I hate getting in bed when I'm at all wet, and by the time I'm 100% dry any therapeutic advantages of worn off :-/

Showers actually make me more awake lol. I like to read boring books to fall asleep. Like one time in 10th grade I think, I had to read A Tale of Two Cities and I would fall asleep every single time I tried to finish that book..

Edit: Oh reading doesn't work huh.. Hm, have you tried falling asleep with some slow songs?

ya, directly after a shower your hair is all wet and stuff and no one wants to take the time to use a hair dryer or anything, just a towel or something...
maybe u should go see a doctor, possibly sleep apnea if you also feel tired when you wake up my friend had it and almost DIED.

My whole family must have insomnia or something, a 4 year old not sleeping until it's past midnight can't be right. Every night for the past week the earliest anyone has slept is 3am.

I usually do some exercise before taking a shower, then some reading makes me really sleepy. I've been staying up late recently because I don't have any books and I've been slacking on the exercise.
No I'm never serious.

I have mentioned this to my doctors in the past, and never got an answer that helped. Perhaps I'll be more forceful next time.

Computer screens are bright and they simulate daylight, so it throws your mind off and you cant sleep afterwards because you are now awake.

you're probably just not tired when you try and go to sleep. too much stimulis i guess also would prevent you from sleeping, but for myself that's not true. i can be on the computer for hours, but as long as i am tired enough i can go to sleep within 10minutes. if im not tired enough i can't sleep.

my only suggestion is when you think you're tired and want to sleep, stay up longer. even if you get less sleep than you're used too it may help. that's the only thing that helps me, excercise does nothing, reading i do to fall asleep but i usually read for three hours before i'm tired enough, taking a shower is how i wake up, not sleep.

This is what I usually end up doing, but it becomes harder and harder to tell if I would be sleeping if I tried at the very moment.

I think I just have to convince my doctor to let me see a sleep specialist, if not solely based on the fact that I've probably nearly died during morning/afternoon commutes several times in the last year.

I've brought it up with my doctor virtually ever visit since middle school and they've never gone beyond providing advice... and my parents were similar... so I think subconsciously I've never felt qualified to go to a higher level of medical treatment. However, I probably need it and need to be more convincing with my general practitioner.

Try to make a schedule/routine. Try not to go on the comp/tv 30 min 1 hour before you sleep. And exercise does help a lot. Not like stretches or dumbbells but like working out or jogging/jump ropes.

probably cuz it's a common complaint but it's also common for teenagers to not take the proper measures for it. if you look up all the advice on the net about how to get a good sleep schedule going, and try all of it, and tell your doctor in a serious tone everything you have tried, then he'd probably care more. sleep/wake same time every day. no excessive caffeine or late afternoon++ caffeine. regular exercise. pre-sleep routine. bright light while awake, dim light only for sleep time. etc etc etc. do it all strictly for a couple weeks and if you still have problems, then medication is a consideration
