I have a friend. Shocking, I know. Anyways he fancies himself a gamer, and I'm fine with that. We disagree on the point of a)who's better at games and b) whether console or pc is better. He doesn't have a ps3, but he has a Wii AND a 360. And an atari. Me? I own a computer, and a wii.
Anyways we play Soulcaliber and he is TERRIBLE. I have never even touched a 360 controller before yesterday and I crush him like a cheap beer can. When I start bringing up the fact that this probably means that PC gamers are better than console gamers, as he doesn't lose every match he plays online, then he starts to get all whiny. "Oh but I haven't played this in a while" "...I've never played this in my life. And I only played SC3 Once. And I didn't play SC2 much either" Its not like I'm really pro. My little brother kicks my ass at every goddamn video in existence, except PvP SCBW.
Anyways what do you think TL. Is PC or Console gaming better?
DISCLAIMER: Its not like I HATE console gaming; I enjoy it, it can be entertaining. But I think PC gaming requires as much or more skill.

PC is harder because there are more buttons which means its harder to master. Simple fighting games like SC take about a day to learn the combo's and then you're a pro. There are only a few select games that are competitive for console like halo and the only reason it is so popular is because its the only good multiplayer based fps.

RTS/FPS >> PC RPG/FIGHTING >> Console
other variations varies.

other variations varies. Fighting i'll give to the console. RPG feels about the same to me either way except for Mass Effect on the PC I need to buy a $40.00 game and for the console i need to buy a $300 console and then spend $40.00 on Mass Effect. Actually probably $60.00 because the security was not so awful that they cut the price by $20 soon after release.

Yeah PC is definitely better for competitive games since the mouse is so much more precise and sensitive than a joystick, and because of this, a slight twitch can mean the difference between life and death (in a game like counter-strike or something)
But consoles are great cause you get all the genres that aren't RTS and FPS.... racing, fighting, RPG, and platformers and action adventure games (both of which play much better on a controller)

Consoles are for people that just want to have fun. PCs are for people that want to have fun while being competitive.

As other people have stated, I think it depends on the genre. Clearly RTS is obviously PC. I would also say FPS are better on PC as well. Generally consoles are played by the more casual gamer. I personally dont like console's as much even for casual games because of the controls. I would take a mouse and keyboard any day over a controler with joysticks.

I tend to rock my friends at PC games, even though they have experience with all sorts of them
but I get rocked whenever I try to play anything like smash bros or other fighting/racing games

I like consoles for casual games because I like to just sit back in a big comfortable chair and relax, Starcraft is the only thing I like to play on the computer.
PC games definitely require more skill because the average gamer seems to be much better than the average console gamer.

cRPG - PC. jRPG - console.
cRPG >>>>jRPG for me, actually I like crpg allot, and dislike jrpg. I think that crpg are more popular in Europe, while jrpg are more popular whit USA.
I don't like consoles, because of controls, no mods, no additional programs (like bwchart), no private servers like iccup, and I find it better to be able to do everything on my PC I can just alt tab from the game.

My heart is with PC and always will be. PC was always connected with hardcore gamers, who invested into their doom machine and upgraded it, fixed all the hardware problems and fought the bugged DOS/Windows.
In my eyes, consoles are still for kids and seasonal gamers, who just want to buy the thing, play here and there by pressing start on their gamepad with always the same buttons, and not be bothered with any complexity.

I feel the same, i hate joystick's. The feeling of the mouse and the keyboard is just too damn good.

RTS and FPS are better on PC
everything else is better on console

Your friend is just a noob in denial. Excuses don't make you suck any less.

RTS def for PC.
Not so sure about FPS. Competitively it leans towards PC because of accuracy, but still pretty viable on console systems.
