My brain is pretty bad at letting me sleep, too. I was initially going to go to bed around 3 P.M. since I had been up since the night before, when my friend called and suggested hanging out. So we end up hanging out for like 12 hours, which involves lots of Halo 3 and climbing around and shit outside being idiots, and here I am, 4 A.M., 13 hours after my original bed-time, and no desire to sleep.

do you take drugs or something? like smoke weed regularly?
it's hard to say if you go to school (so don't have a fucked up rythm), work out etc. what else it could be... visit a doctor if you really can't come up with anything.

Try some relaxation exercises/breathing exercises, maybe develop some type of pre bedtime stretch routine (yoga), or something that worked for me is try reading before you go to bed. Otherwise, I would always recommend seeing a doctor, but don't see a general practitioner. Try and possibly find a psychiatrist or someone who might have a little more knowledge of the disorder. I'm sure you already know this, but they will most likely recommend drugs.

Don't eat or drink a lot before going to sleep. Be sure the air is fresh in your room.
Also, when something exciting happens during day, that might make you dream strange dreams.

Happened to me before, some alcohol really helps, really. Or hot milk, if you're that "dry" type?

There's a section in Steven Laberge's 'Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming' where he gives some advice on how to turn sleep paralysis into a lucid experience. I'm sure you could acquire this book somewhere (It's available, I know that) and give that a try. I actually recommend it to anyone interested in lucid dreaming (Another topic entirely~, not meaning to hijack here).

I can't sleep tonight either, despite several vigorous sessions of masturbation.

hahahai tried that for a bit
at first i was creeped out like any other person would be - its unnatural and u tend to not associate yourself with unnaturals things, however when it was gone i realized that it was pretty cool

so in actuality i rather enjoyed the crepy dark phantom guy and the tingling sensation that occured in my head even the most random dreams that went along with that
like once i slept while listening to my mp3 player with like.. some random metal bands necro and shadows fall or w/e some random semi-mainstream thing
and like it was at school during lunch or something so liek i dreamt all my friends were like gathered in a cult then randomly growling death metal omg it was so awesome then i woke up and i never got sleep paralysis again it was the saddest day of my life

just get really tired, it helps. Modify your sleep habits. Sleeping that late isnt helping. Try sleeping 6-8 hours a day

I have problems sleeping, especially when I'm stressed. I've gone to sleep at 4AM, 3:30AM, and 4:30AM for the past three days -_-

Thank god I don't have school right now lol

Eating habits have a strong influence as well. Don't eat 5-6 hours before sleep. Don't eat much for dinner. Eat very good and a lot for breakfast.

I have to run 13 or more miles for it to make me tired enough to sleep. Otherwise I just stay energetic. Just playing sports has never made me tired, still just more energetic. So they actually are a good way to wake up at least. I can't run 13 miles everyday just because of my feet and knees, and if I got to the point where I could, well, it probably wouldn't make me tired anymore.

Yeah I usually do too, though if I stay busy, I sometimes stay up for 30 or so and then have trouble getting to sleep. But if I'm up for 8 or 10 I get tired and can usually go to sleep, although that leaves me at an inopportune place.

My body is asleep, but not my brain. Hence sleep paralysis. I can open my eyes and look at things, though I usually see people or demons or vicious infants and hear loud buzzing sounds or feel vibrations and see lights. Can't move though, and can't "wake up" even if I try. The reverse of sleep walking really - where your body moves but you're not conscious.

Oh and Orome, I guess it's actually spelled "hypnagogia" not "hypnogogia." So maybe that's why you couldn't find anything? But it is an uncommon subject so I guess it might not be there anyway.

And Ghardo, I smoke weed or drink once or twice a year, so I don't think that's it.
