hey guys!

i just played a protoss on iccup and that guy went for a pvz-style fe with pylon, forge and cannons at his natural. when i saw it with my scout, i added gates and teched to reavers. to be honest, from then it was a quite easy game because he lacked massivly on units. but i think that was mainly, cause he played it out pretty poorly.

so my question is, can a fe build like that be viable in pvp games under some circumstances? and if so, when would you guys use it? i really don't know, but i'd imagine that it might work in some cases depending on the map (long distance between the mains). but what do you guys think?

btw map was python, me at 12 - him at 2 and he was not rdm.

i don't think that this is worth a new thread, so i post it as blog.

I remember micronesia using it... then epicly failing.

My comment was -- "micro, is this build actually supposed to work if you dont fuck it up as badly as you did this game?"

if its crossed position, you basically have 0 way of recovering in terms of pressuring him. he will have that expansion running and add more cannons and zeals(later goons or just speed zeals) to overwhelm you. ive played a game like this before(which i have lost bc i tried to power from three gate goon but it was cross spawn[FAIL!]) and i got him with reavers but my last reaver glitched(didnt attack probes, just sat there, bleh), but yeah i got a DT sneak into my main and that slowed me down further. if he does forge cannon, just go nexus. go one step further to counter him economically.

It works decent if you're one level above your opponent and scout what he does in response to the FE. As a response I'd personally just expand without cannons and contain him with a few goons and then go dtdrop to force him to make even more cannons while you start to focus on your macro.
That build is nothing I would recommend if you want to get ahead in the game, because all it does is put you on the defensive for a long while with your economy kicking in just mariginally earlier.
I prefer the 13nex into 2-3 gate zeal myself, it's pretty difficult not to lose any probes, but if you are confident in your micro, this build should also work well - at least on far positions.
I'm taking whatever coverage I can get, because frankly, I'm busy working on this million dollar deal at my job. Early retirement is a good thing brotha man. - MessengerASL

It works if your opponant is a retard.

Forge + Cannons + Nexus = no gateway = no zealot.

One time someone did this vs me and I lol'd and gave him vision. I went a standard 1 gate opening and decided to add my nexus before my first zealot. It was faster than his, and he was left with a forge and cannons.

I won the game retardedly easily. This will only work vs stupid people that decide to all in vs the cannons in front.

Every time I try to FE like it was PvZ in PvP, I get my front smashed open by reavers and goons. Not much you can do against that...

Lol when did I use it? I like... never do that. Maybe I did it for a goof?

Vs a better player it's a horrible idea. Vs a weaker player you can probably make it work, but I don't see much of a point.

Why wouldn't you just expand yourself, but without forge and cannons?

I think this is a commonly used response, except you have to be careful that he doesn't proxy cannon you while you have 0 zealots.
