They all heard of it and they know it is good. But how can I influence them to really pick it up again, and try to get better so I can actually play with and talk to someone in RL about SC?
There are about 3 of my buddies I would love to play with. One is very masochistic and loves to torture himself to get better at games (he completed DMC4 completely)He's an easy target, but I don't want to confront him saying "GO BEYOND THE FUCKING GAME" Another of my friends is really clever, and could really get good if he put his mind to it. The last one is an arrogant idiot who talks incessantly about WoW and is so extroverted, it's disheartening. He already is forcing WoW on my clever friend. Any tough old games, he's remark "Yeeeaaaa, that game was a bitch. Anyway, well my rogue managed to take out a priest in the..." I know I couldn't get him into the game alone, but if the 3 of us were playing...
It's not that I don't like him, he just gets on my nerves. I'd like to knock him around a bit in the video game world, but "WoW is my only love! LMFAO!" gawd...
Any advice?

Well, introduce them to BW again. If it doesn't take, it doesn't take.

Show them the GSI vod's. If that doesn't get them at least a little into it...I dunno what will.
|
Buy them or get them the game, they won't refuse something that is free. Tell them to try it at least
|
Showing them the GSI vods sounds like a good idea to me. As long as they can get past early game where nothing is happening I'm sure they'll at least find it mildly entertaining.
|
definitely VODs and eventually some highlight VODs(SL highlights, players highlights, korean highlights, etc) once they start understanding the game a little better.

you have funny friends, get them drunk and make them play sc.

This seems to be true. If I remember right, this is what I did.

Well, I got my friends into playing Starcraft only because they think I'm super fast(im only at 130 apm), but to them I'm amazing quick(you know... watching a person play might make someone say, "dammmmn i wanna try that"). They're trying to out do each other and stuff now. It's pretty cool.

Just invite them over one night and play 2v2 comps or something, it should be pretty fun for him (obviously not for you).
Show off with all the special units and make yourself look amazing.

I used to play WC3 before SC. A friend of mine managed to convert me to SC starting by showing me the supply limit XD. He then showed me mass carriers on melee on BGH (vs comp and with cheats of course). That was before i knew any SC units too.
The next day i started playing SC with protoss cuz thats what my friend suggested i play (this was before i knew carriers were protoss units; when i learned their name, i thought they were dropships XD).
A few months after, i tried to get another friend to play SC by showin him mass carriers. Unfortunately, WoW got to him first. He didnt believe me when i told him SC was 2D btw. He had heard from WoW guys that SC graphics sucked.

I remember when I first got into pro gaming, I told my bro all about it and how the strats we used were all bunk and they used these units called vultures. I linked him to replays and eventually vods and he started getting into it and he loves it now (he never plays but he watches more than I do).
Though I think it helps that he used to play and thus know what every unit does. Showing vods of great players playing is great and all, but I dunno how much of an effect it will have if they don't know the game at all.
If they've heard of the game, they must atleast be a bit curious. Show them vods, get them to play for a week or so, show them more vods and maybe they'll get right into it
|
Hm, yea thanks for the advice. I showed them SC2 trailers, and they love it. I only see them at college, but we have like 5 hour breaks together, if only I could play sc online at school, and show them how epic it is. (stupid school internet)

I tried showing my friends who play WoW, Starcraft. I actually got one a little interested and he downloaded the demo and had some fun with it, but never started playing for real.

watch vids and say "classic!" through it
if that doesn't persuade him at all then gun to the head

I was utterly convinced I'd hate SC, just because of the age. But once I tried it I knew it was the game I'd been searching for (and I've been trying loads!). So if it doesn't take, meh, they don't appreciate greatness . Oh and you're lucky your RL mates are into PC games!

Threaten to rape them!
But yeah, I'm having sort of the same problem with one of my friends. He can't really... understand... the concept of StarCraft. For example, in every matchup he goes m&m (He's terran), even if he gets raped and I show him what he did wrong. He just doesn't learn...

Tell them Koreans make lots of money off of it, if they're hardcore that should be enough. But seriously, I try to tell people you can either play UMS or you can commit yourself to the game. And its only fair to give a warning on how much work itll take to get good.

I'm lucky, I have 4-5 RL friends who are absolutely into Starcraft, play competitively with each other, watch GSI games together, etc. Its how I got into it actually.
