I suck at starcraft. I've sucked at starcraft since I was 12 and it was version 1.04 and I played BGH and went mass hydras every game. In my junior year of high school I played religiously for about two or three months straight. Besides failing English, I reached a high of D+ on PGT. Altogether, that season I probably went 10-60 in ladder games. Man I sucked. I still suck.
Fast forward three years. I'm in my second year of college, and I'm taking the least number of classes I've ever taken in one semester, owing to the realization that 28 units and 8 courses in one semester plus doing forensics is a shitty idea. So, this semester, I'm taking only four comparatively easy courses and I've dropped forensics, partly because of the stress, partly because this girl on the team broke my heart ='(. But I started suffering from competition withdrawals.
So I PICKED UP STARCRAFT. Segway.
I've been playing pretty hard for the last few weeks. I started out just gaming casually, doing team games and 1v1s on BNET. I'm better than most of the people I play, but not by much. But I feel like I'm improving. I'm even planning on giving ICCUP a shot. A lot of things are different from the last time I played SC, that make me feel I can improve. To list a few:
1.) Emotional maturity. I was a little punk in high school, and I didn't deal well with losing. Now I don't really care, and it lets me enjoy the game more and get in more practice. This has probably helped more than anything.
2.) More knowledge. Learning about economics, history, and politics helps you in Starcraft, in a strange way.
3.) I'm not a SC robot. I used to learn just by watching replays. Since I've played a few RTSes in the intervening period, I've learned how to analyze the game to develop my own strategies or better understand ones used by others.
Ok, that's it for my sob story. Anyone got advice on improving? Someone wanna game? I don't care about your skill level. Let me know your name on bnet and your gateway, and I'll hit you up.

hmm, if u have no idea on how progamers actually play, watch a first person view vod of any korean progamer that is uploaded on youtube. it will give u a basis on how to play starcraft. after watching it, u'll realize all the things u can do. like, every little thing counts, such as rallying ur workers to minerals and sending each one to empty minerals.
here's the basic breakdown:
1. watch fpvod
2. watch replays (korean semi/progamer ones are recommended)
3. imitate the strategies used in the replays (since there are a lot, u'll be playing many games) soon, u'll figure out which unit counters which.
4. read strategies if ur a better learner that way, and know BOs (buildorders) BO's very important imo, at least early in the game.

play, watch reps (your own and pro reps), and think about the game!

have a gosu obs and walk you through a game against someone else get familiar with hotkeys (like, if you play zerg, 1a2a3a4a5sz6sz7sz8sz9sz0sz) learn timing windows players do specific things for specific reasons - if you don't understand something, ask usually, you'll want to have other people look at your game b/c sometimes you miss things that you are doing wrong macro

I recently switched to Zerg, and I will play a few games with you whenever I can.

i suck more. haha. i play random and doing high risk BO's.... but if you have AIM/MSN, we could play together when needed. just PM me your info!

Since I rarely play on west, and I'm doing iccup a lot, the best way to reach me is through aim. PM me if you want to play me. I'm not THAT bad. I can macro and use hotkeys fine, and play at about 200 APM. Losing constantly to 4 pools on iccup is discouraging tho, so I want to play people on my level. If a lot of people are in the same boat, we could probably get some kind of community together. Maybe I can use this post to gauge interest.
