My new computer almost working perfect now, it's only the audio that I can't get to work right now.

I have no sound card, but the motherboard has audio built in.
I installed audi drivers from the motherboards cd, but it's not working anyway.

Perhaps you can understand this picture:

So I got some audio things in device manager and they all says they work properly if I click them.

But controlpanel->sounds.. claims there's no playback device.

I did go into BIOS and check that the audio thing there was enabled.

When I try to start an mp3 in winamp I get:
"Bad direct sound driver. Please install proper drivers or select an other device in configuration. Error code:88780078"

Please help!

windows operating systems and do u have the specific name of the motherboard? its most likely wrong drivers for the wrong windows or wrong drivers altogether. Even if u install it from the cd that came with it, sometimes it doesn't work for a specific window. I'd look up the name of the motherboard, and go to the website to dl the driver.

Hey you are probably right! The cd that came with the mobo says "drivers for vista inside" and I use xp. Can I download xp-drivers from somewhere?

motherboard came with this description:
Asus P5B SE iP965 4DDR2-DIMM 3PCI 3PCIe SATA Raid Audio GB-LAN Socket775 ATX

asus are known for their shitty website u have to look real hard on their official website... but its there somewhere. if u cant find it i'll help you later but i really g2g and watch mind vs jaedong lol. btw its windows xp 64 bit right?

My xp cd is very old, so it's probably just 32bit xp

I found asus website and am downloading some things

I'm not gonna miss jaedong vs mind either

ok perhaps I downloaded the wrong one, didn't work.

I install, reboot, but still nothing new in device manager. What is the audiodevice called in you device manager?

If you remember the model of your motherboard you can just try googling it and adding sound driver at the end and maybe it'll turn something up?

Update: nothing worked like it should with the sound so I bought a 20$ usb sound card and it's working now
