I just read defenstrate's blog on his tragedy and couldn't help but feel sorry for him as did most others who posted in his blog. However, reading it, I was suddenly reminded of a post @ d2jsp, (insanely active diablo trading forum) where a kid had posted his parents died or something. he had much forum gold and many posts = veteran I guess so some offered condolences. He posted donations accepted @ the very end and I was kinda puzzled. he had just posted a story on a tragic string of events and suddenly seemed to be capitalizing on it @ the end. I scrolled through the 300+replies and perhaps 75% were kids posting their trade items or spamming otherwise useless content seeing as more posts correlates to more respect. I just found this kinda funny.

Later, I saw a couple more of these posts ( car accident: lost legs, sister raped, etc all with "donations accepted") and I realized this must be an ongoing trend @ d2jsp, feigning loss for forum gold) I saw a post today, some new person posting about dead somthing. there were no responses probably because such a newcomer didn't even merit the spam.

all in all such a unique forum. Never seen 1 in my life so active. the owner of it must get over 500million hits a day with 316,820 users, each of whom have (or @ least in the d2 forum) resfresh the page about every 30 seconds for 24 hours...

i should be writing my lab

I had to read that line 3 times. What fucking bullshit that forum must be.

It seems that starcraft, especially when compaired to other games, as lame as it may sound, as ethics and honor. We generally always say GG when we lose and place emphasis on fair play and manners, most other games don't put emphasis on the manners, and just a little bit on fair play.

I think it's one of the reasons are community is so close and good, we have an honor code more or less. And we all abide to it, and it forms a strong mature community.

d2jsp is the absolute worst site you can find to have a meaningful and decent conversation/discussion. I've been there since 2003, and the people just keep getting stupider.

The short answer would be no.

The long answer is that it's more the nature of an internet forum. You shouldn't be really posting such stuff, it's comparable to shouting "my gradma died!" on a subway station. Yes, the situation is kinda bad, but all those people don't know you and don't have to care about it. The difference between a subway station and a forum is that on a forum, there's also a large degree of anonymousity, so people are more free to bash. Dunno, posting closely personal stuff on any forum seems to be somewhat of a taboo for me, it never works out well.

And jsp is a sucky forum, all the D2 scum hangs out there.

I think it's very mature for a gaming forum and I'd like to think it's mature for it's average users' age, but then again there are bound to be some philosophy / literature / chess / overachievers etc forums out there that naturally have a more mature audience.

if we werent any more mature than the others, i'd be worried. The average age here is like 10yrs above the 'normal' game forum. There's nothing more to it.
BW _is_ a game with more manner and honor in it, again, because people get more mature as they age, its a normal thing.

Manner on BW battle net is far from perfect indeed, but still much better than W3. Not so much because the games are different or carry an honor code, just because BW is older and has older players.

You also have to consider the fact that there is no reasonable way to profit from tragedy on TL as there is on d2jsp.

Unfortunately, this is so true. It's all a bunch of kids who say the most offensive things because they have anonymity and no conscience.

Respect on D2jsp forums is most commonly measured by post count, since scammers (who are everywhere) will eventually (maybe) get banned, and have to start over. So a real first time user has trouble getting into the community, because he has no money, no posts, and people assume he's a scammer and won't trade with him. I only get my foot in the community because a friend of mine from college helped me out.

It's a fun trading forum, and I actually enjoyed trading more than playing D2 for a while. Since the forum is mostly a bunch of impatient kids, you can buy items for like 1fg (forum gold, the forum's currency), and then turn around and sell it for 5. That's actually how I amassed my "fortune" there.

My advice for people that join D2jsp is not to give too much credit to post count, since people can build up posts really fast there. I usually go by join date. Anybody with a join date >1 year is very unlikely to scam you (although I have been scammed by a long time member).

Anyway, D2jsp is really a shitty forum because of the immaturity and lack of respect between members. TL.net is a much better forum. I'd say the most mature forum is the 2+2 forums (poker forum). I've been a member there for a long time, and it's a really respectful place. It's like TL.net for poker.

Eh, tl being 'older' is part of it, but I don't think that's it. Sure, you can find bm players with skill in starcraft, but I think the ratio is much lower than in other games, due to the nature of starcraft. In order to get very good at starcraft you have to be pretty mature in your approach.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. D2jsp is where the absolute worst scum of bnet and possibly some of the worst individuals to roam the internet reside. Absolute trash with few equals.

Let's face it, SC is an old game, we're all kids who had a passion for it and grew up.

Fuck, I should have had a passion with economics or law.

Yeah, I agree. Its thrilling to buy cheap ingame, sell big on forum. And vice versa.

The difference between 5fg and 10fg may seem small when you have 10k fg, but thats a pul of a difference. ;p
