Well, I have essentially stopped playing sc for about a week, this is honestly the longest i've gone without playing SC in years. Mainly because every other time i stop playing i get an overwhelming urge to begin to play again. But this time its different, I have a full time job and other responsibilities and really have not even thought about SC. I haven't gotten any urges to play SC at all, now this is my question should I quit SC or come back to SC. This is the first time in my life that I feel I can actually quit SC if i wanted to and i feel I'm at a "crossroad" if you will if i don't start playing SC again now I can't see myself ever getting back into it...but do I really want to quit? Leave me any comments with your thoughts on it.

Poll: BACK TO SC OR QUIT?
(Vote): back to Starcraft obviously
(Vote): quit SC and enjoy life
(Vote): bisu build

moderation is the key;
if you have an already balanced(ish) life (as it sounds like you do) and you got the time - go for it!

while i agree with your post and it would be nice for me if I could play in moderation, but i realize that if I start playing sc again I will begin to use all my time playing sc, (I kind of have an addictive personality)

I say give it up. If you've been playing "all the time" for years, you ought to see what else is out there. Sounds like you've given enough time to SC (this is not a value judgment, of course - I played heavily for 5 years.)

If you end up missing it or decide other aspects of life aren't as fulfilling, SC will still be there.

You'll probably spend your time doing something else that's unproductive. so you might as well continue playing Starcraft but try to schedule reading books.

Keep playing. Don't pull a CaucasianA, nothing against him, just the best example I can think of right now. SC for life.

This is the dumbest thread ever Response. I don't get these people who need to "quit" SC, or say they need to "mass train" at it. Game for fun. If playing at a high level is more fun to you, then do it. If crushing noobs is more fun, do that. If doing something else with your time is more fun, do that instead. I don't see the problem here.

For the last four years, I had always been playing ladders and leagues and been part of a team. Since starting my job, I've given up playing even mildly competitively and am happy to play casual games. I've become more active in TL and watching professional games, however. I've looked to set up more LANs and events. I still love playing the game, watching the game, and above all else discussing the game (meeting up with old friends over Christmas, hearing "So you still playing StarCraft?" sends me rambling about it for minutes at a time).

If you feel like your life will be missing something without high-level play, keep playing StarCraft. If you don't have time to do that but want to stay involved in the community, there are tons of ways you can do that. If neither of those sound objectively appealing, you've lost your love of the game and there's no reason to continue.

playing casually is much more fun imo. Social life and playing every now and then is cool. Beats mass gaming. PLus, you get a lot less agitated when you lose =p

I had a very similar experience to what you're describing here with World of Warcraft a few months back. I ended up deciding to quit, and don't regret the choice. If you don't have the urge to play anymore, it's probably a good opportunity to quit and explore some old interests you may have put aside for SC.

Sins also has a good point that you'll probably end up doing equally unproductive things in your SC time, so depending on how you look at it it may not matter that much. I feel like my life is a bit more balanced since I quit though.

Really? I get more agitated when I lose because usually I'll lose to someone whom I use to crush and be like, "OMG! I have to start playing again to beat "X user" and restore my honor". Anyways Response you should just stick to [x.1] and casually game when we all play !

I have just gone through the same thing, and 'play for fun' was very difficult for me to manage. If you are like me, you should continue to not play and play Disgaea instead (I'm 30 hours in; I uninstalled sc 1 week ago; :p)

Well maybe you shouldn't play starcraft then, or you could try to do what i do. I play when i can for however long i want, but everything else comes before that. For example the last week i worked 4 9 hour shifts at work and have homework to do now, not time for starcraft. But when i finish if i feel the urge to give in to my desires a little bit i will play it.

But more likely then not i will end up playing Kingdom Hearts or some 360 game that i haven't gottent o play yet :D

i voted bisu build since the option to moderate yourslef wasn't there, but then i read your post.

If you truly can't moderate yourself then just stop playing

if you really can.

stop playing for about a month. try hard for it. and while at it, try finding other stuff you enjoy filling up your time with. there have to be a few and if not, invent some. and devote yourself to these for your free time. after that one month play some starcraft. it can't have escaped your mind onviously only then you can probably make the right choice for you and proceed from then on.

I kind of did this for me without the tight time schedule and all, but nothing major changed for me like getting a job and stuff. I remembered a hell lot of activities I used to enjoy but had been put aside for quite some time, sc being a major reason for this. I still play bw casually now but more of seeing it as a relaxing competitive hobby with the random public 2v2s and fun games with friends and stuff, with no view to mass game in iCCup and rep analysation and stuff. I still play some ladder when I want challenge and have trouble finding a good game though so nothing is off the table. It's just more of a mood thing and it's there for when I have nothing else to do. I've also begun doing all these non-sc fun stuff again and also devote some time in finding new enjoyale stuff to keep me interested. Really, life doesn't end in sc, life shouldn't end in sc. That's more of a WoW thing most of us have had this period long or short of sc devotion and it more than damn right deserves it. but in the end of the day... it is a game meant for fun (for us non koreans anyway) and when real life knocks the door you can't keep ignoring it for another sc game

eh, maybe to a friend who i used to beat a lot, then i might get mad. other than that, i have my fun with 2x2, 3x3 or ums these days. if im playin 1v1, its cuz im smurfing some random chobo clan for fu nto see how many wins i can get in a row =p
